    No, the fees they pay are literally just to use the name.

    They can still host Open workouts and everything without it.

    That's what I thought, seems like a no brainer for any established gym with a strong following then.

    Glad my gym never affiliated. Glassman has been a prick for years but I'm glad this will spur some change. The sport has so much potential and Glassman just seemed to get in the way for as long as I've been following it.

    My gyms response

    Members, we want to continue our communication with you surrounding the current issue with CrossFit HQ, and the stance we are taking here at CF859. Many of you have shared your hearts with us by voicing your concerns, and we really appreciate it.

    Clearly now is a time for our nation and world to come together and make progress against racism and other injustices that drive us apart. Recent comments and associated reactions of CrossFit founder Greg Glassman are completely inappropriate and despicable, go against this opportunity for unity, and only serve to divide. This type of insensitivity and callous behavior is nothing new for CrossFit’s founder, but clearly he has pushed across yet another line, this time one that cannot stand.

    We want to be clear that we are considering disaffiliation. Like many other gyms and athletes, we are trying not to make a knee jerk decision, and will wait to see what course of action CrossFit HQ takes. Frankly we don’t see how CrossFit will survive if Mr. Glassman stays in place, and while no decision on our part has been made, we plan to no longer affiliate if he continues as CEO. On a positive note--there are some hints that changes may be on the horizon. We will make this decision in the coming weeks.

    We still firmly believe in the foundational tenets of CrossFit that emphasize community, inclusion, and health, and believe that the vast majority of those who have guided CrossFit to where it is today continue to do so honorably. We will not only prioritize the well-being of you, our members, but also the greater community during this time when actions that embrace progress, inclusion, and love are of paramount importance. We are also eager to explore new ways of getting involved in movements happening in the fitness world that promote inclusion and diversity.

    We will not compromise our values. Our gym and community are strong, not because of our affiliation with CrossFit, but because of all of you. If we move forward without the CrossFit branding, we are confident that the future of this community is a bright one.

    Again thank you for being part of CF859, and thank you for your continued support.

    That reads like a Pete Buttigieg speech, if we're being honest. Nothing of value because "pushed yet another line, this time one that cannot stand" and the entire next paragraph directly contradict each other.

    Is anybody else still doing this?

    Just got into it about a month ago. I have to scale a lot of stuff but I am enjoying it so far.

    I have been doing a non-aphiliate crossfit style gym since 2017. i love it. i go 5 days a week and can't imagine doing anything else.

    It is sustainable long term as long as you don't injure yourself trying to crush PRs.

    I'm still relatively new to the olympic lifts so I'm just focusing on doing the moves correctly instead of trying to compare my weights to everyone.

    Any ideas for improving shoulder/wrist/ankle mobility to help with those?

    I all but stopped doing mobility work. I find it useful if I'm hurting somewhere and need some pain relief or if I'm especially sore but that's it

    The only way you're going to improve your "mobility" in specific lifts is by continuing to train the lifts you're lacking in and challenging your posture to improve each time.

    Edit: You should ask your coach for some assistance work if there are specific phases on the lifts that you feel you need to improve on, but if you're brand new to any formalized type of training then just getting more time doing the lift will help more
