Won't really solve my problem. The only ones that will work for me, since I have no cable box, only have 2 tuners on it and are no longer produced. Sure I can get one, but how long until it's not even supported anymore? But at most I could record two things at one time, or watch something and record one thing.
Already have it, but that would only really help with broadcast network shows. Actually would only help with ABC, FOX, and NBC shows. And sometimes I won't watch a show until the season is over, and most of the episodes will expire before then.
http://cordcuttersnews.com/not-since-1991-cable-tv-subscriber-numbers-low/ Not Since 1991 Has Cable TV Subscriber Numbers Been So Low by Luke Bouma on July 5, 2017 in News If you are a cable TV executive subscriber numbers are probably not your favorite subject to talk about right now. With the exception of a few bumps here and there since cable TV subscribers hit their peak back in 2000 at 68,500,000, it has mostly been downhill from there. According to the FCC in December 2015 only 53,223,000 American households subscribed to a cable TV service. Since 2000 cable TV has slowly been losing ground to satellite and telecom providers and now cord cutting. Not since 1991 have cable TV subscriber numbers been so low. What is even scarier is the numbers have fallen even more since December 2015, and the accurate count now may be lower than the 51,700,000 subscriber count in 1990. When you consider the fact that in 1990 the United States only had 249.6 million people but in 2017 the population in the United States has jumped to 326.4 million people, the continued decline in cable TV subscribers looks even more shocking. According to several different studies cord cutting now accounts for 20 to 25 million American households, making 2017 a great year for cord cutting and a bad year for cable TV executives. Specto Fork is a good alternative to Exodus. Found it by using the google brain when Exodus began to flake.
I'm thinking about finally cutting the cord when I move next month. Does anyone have a list of things I need in lieu of cable? I have no clue, literally. Do I need a Roku/Amazon Fire/Chromecast/Apple TV + Plex? What subscriptions do I need? Sling box? Literally clueless. I already have/have access to Netflix, Hulu, HBOGO, etc. My biggest concern is watching live football this fall--do I have any options outside of going to a bar?
My current setup which has worked well for me are the Amazon fire stick (with Kodi), Netflix, Amazon Prime, WatchESPN, NBC Sports. Kodi is really the key here. I know there is alot going on in Europe which may affect its streaming ability this year, but I used it last year to stream NFL Redzone and any games that weren't on ESPN/NBC. At times, it is a pain to find the right stream, but it works. Movies and shows stream fairly well also.
I'm still new to Kodi. Is it normal for Exodus to act all fucky? Sometimes when I click on tv/movie titles nothing happens. Been using Zen a lot more.
Do I need the Amazon Fire TV or is the stick just fine? What's the difference? And how does WatchESPN work--is it just an app that you download or do you need to pay for it? What are Kodi, Exodus, and Zen? Jesus.
Get PS Vue plus a fire TV. It has everything you need as an OSU/CFB fan. Not worth the hassle to go through what all these nerds do Also get an antennae for local channels
got dish after 20 years of cable . 2000 channles,. its great . going to best buy to check out the brand new sony bravia flat screen 20 grand but so what ?
Going to have to look into Zen. Have been using Exodus to catch a friend up on GoT, has been working great and in HD. Have also been watching Fargo, but the 1st season seems to be all SD.
so I just moved and was going to order internet through AT&T. But I noticed there was one of those xfinity hot-spots that all you need is an xfinity login. We have always used my g-f's parents for that. I have hooked up my PS4, laptops, and phones to this internet and they all work amazingly. Cancelled my AT&T appointment and will just roll with this until it ends.
Unless you have a large library of your own video files, Plex is unnecessary. Not familiar with what a Sling box does outside of being able to stream DVRed shit away from home. Fire TV or Stick is clutch for cord cutting due to Kodi. There are live sport addons for Kodi, also there are subreddits live /r/nbastreams, /r/nflstreams, etc. that provide links to watch the stuff through a browser. Of course, this streaming through Kodi and the stuff on Reddit is inevitably going to be illegal at some point in time, but that's a hurdle to deal with when the time comes.
Kodi = a program where you can stream stuff legally, although my educated guess is the vast majority of people use it to watch streams that are hosted illegally (but still legal to stream). Exodus and Zen are one of several addons that enable this
I have an older Fire Stick (atleast a year old) and at times it can be glitchy but overall it works fine. Im sure the newer Fire Sticks would be much better, narrowing the gap with the Fire TVs. Not sure the difference, but I know there are users here that have the Fire TV. I use a friends cable login for WatchESPN and NBC Sports. I should have noted that originally.
I used Sportsdevil. I would typically then use frontrowsports as the website within the app to stream games. At times, it wouldn't work well and I had to use FreeTV or a different site, but it was all via SportsDevil.
I have the OG Fire TV. Got it within the same year it was released. Still going strong. Don't like it as much as Roku or Apple TV, but having Kodi makes it the reigning king for me. Tried out Kodi on the Apple TV but it was just fucking awful, and it was a pain in the ass to install.
Anyone who wants NFL should look into nfl2go, you need to pay like $27 a season in bitcoin for HD streams of everything (redzone, nfl network, each game live and replays).
I just switch from Time Warner to WOW in Columbus Doubled my internet speed but lost about 50 channels Cost went from $198 a month to $104 I'm pretty happy but the Wow interface is awful
Yes it can be a pain in the ass. When it works it's awesome. I've been using it for a year. Some days are good, some bad. Often wish I still had cable. The other night I switched it up and just downloaded a Better Call Saul episode in a few mins and watched it on the computer after spending 20+ mins trying to get the shit to stream on Kodi. Switching from cable to kodi/netflix has reduced my TV watching time by a ton, so that's a good thing I guess.
Probably not the right thread for this, but in case anyone has any help computer suggestions. Have noticed that my PC is suddenly very slow while surfing the web. Very old PC with Vista (I know) that I'm trying to keep as long as possible for my needs, which is basic Excel or Word document creation/view and surfing the net without really doing any streaming. No gaming or photoshop or anything crazy. Been working fine for these purposes until a couple of weeks ago. Now I have trouble loading even simple web sites, like the TMB home page. And loading sites with more graphics, like a thread here on Random web images, takes forever. I normally use Firefox but have tried Chrome as well. Same issue on both. I can surf fine on my wife's laptop or my iPad. Seems local to my PC. I would think it's the internet connection maybe, but I get the normal 90-100/10 that I should get when I check on Speedtest.net on my PC. So no idea why loading sites on my two browsers is suddenly so slow. Any ideas are appreciated.
Windows is generally as good as other anti-virus now on it's own. I would just run malwarebytes and see if it picks up anything. It's not always a virus/malware though.
Wipe the disk and reinstall the OS. I do this from time to time when my old computers are acting unusually slow. Backup whatever you want to keep to an external hard drive.
Also ccleaner. Might need to load executables on external drive or boot in safe. Cc has a couple nice tools but I like it for the ability to remove unwanted software easily. Also bought my kids a chromebook for $98 three years ago and it still runs like Seabiscuit.
been running Kodi through a RaspberryPi3 and its pretty limited. Thinking of going the firestick route.
Signed up for PS Vue a couple weeks ago and have loved it so far. Then I get the e-mail that they're bumping up the price $10 to $45/month starting in October. May have to consider other options at that point.
Yeah I went ahead and canceled mine after having it for the last 6 months and loving it. We just moved so we were offered a decent promotional rate for cable that I went ahead and signed up for that runs for a year. I figure that will at least get me through football season and hopefully there will be some more improvements to either Vue, YouTube TV, or Hulu live during that time before that cable rate expires.
I've never used the Fire Stick. As long as it runs reasonably smooth, it's not worth the price difference if all one does is stream stuff. I guess if you stream 4K stuff though the Fire TV would be worth it, but I don't know how much 4K stuff is out there.
https://www.suppose.tv/ This website lets you compare cable, satellite, and streaming TV providers to see which is best for you. Let's you compare on features and channels. Pick the channels you want (optionally prioritize the channels), then you can pick if DVR is required, pick the device(s) you have if you only want streaming, and it gives you the options in order that fit your needs best. Also, a slider to prioritize channel selection or save more $. Saves a shit ton of effort manually researching the options. Turns out that if I had a cable/satellite contract (basic cable comes built into the rent), I could save a ton of money. I'd likely be one one of the Dish plans, says PlayStation Vue's $45 a month plan is the best for me. Dish plan I would have would either be $65 or $78. Only problem for me is locals. I can't find a satellite that picks them up unless I get an expensive external antenna (live about an hour from the three closest cities that would have local stations). Would be a real killer for sports without the locals.
This is the way we're going when our DirecTV contract expires in December - I'll check on everything again before then, but PS Vue looks like the best thing out there right now
Well if you are paying in Bitcoin, chances are it is a less than legal service which could cause your ISP to ban your service. Especially an ISP like Verizon or AT&T who has contracts with the NFL.
I'm making the jump this month. Wow offers 100 and 500 mps internet. Do they really run anywhere near that speed and do I even need 500? Currently get 30-40 on an advertised 60 mps charter network.
I was using psvue for the longest time, but suddenly their billing system no longer liked my card it had used for the last month and support refuses to help. Fuck off Sony. Combine that with the 10 dollar a month increase and another 10 once they add one more local channel here and I'm done. Sucks because the other options suck. Oh well, guess I'll keep the 45 a month and try to watch games off sportsdevil.
You want get those speeds unless your plugged straight in. I have 1000 and get about 300 off my wifi. Google fiber should be up "soon" in my neighborhood and I'll make the switch to them and their 100 mbps plan. Should be plenty for all my streaming and will save me about $20 a month over ATT.
