Starting at midnight ET Monday evening, NBCU will notify existing Peacock customers that their rates will be increasing as of next month. Effective Aug. 17, for existing users on their next billing cycle and immediately for new customers, the price of Peacock Premium (with ads) will increase by $1, to $5.99 per month, and Peacock Premium Plus (which is mostly commercial-free) will rise $2, to $11.99 per month.

The NFL preseason starts this week officially though it is a single game this gameweek.

We have multiple games on Aug 10th and the first game of the regular season is Sept 7.

I hope we get the full rollout, with game selection and ergo "custom" arrangement by Sept 7th.

Max included with internet, no Netflix, $1.99 peacock and paramount for now, no Apple TV, prime with Amazon account already, no discovery bc it’s on Max now, plus it doesn’t account for all the equipment fees, DVR fee, HD fee I had when on cable and satellite

I'm very confused. What is the point of this chart? It's very good at comparing apples and oranges if that's the purpose I suppose because the content you get out of the column on the left vs the column on the right are totally different.

The point is that they cost roughly the same, or even more if you pay for all of them.

As many have said, if you look you likely won't have to pay for each one.

I have all of them but
    1) some are free as a perk of something else
    2) share logins or
    3) am on a free trial.

Even the Disney bundle ($20/mo) charge is waived by AMEX as a perk of my credit card.

By that logic a gallon of milk and a 2 liter of Pepsi cost roughly the same as well but who the hell cares?

Comparing cable tv vs a slew of media subscription services is pointless for both categories because other than for a general "entertainment" factor people don't pay for each of them for the same purpose. The more accurate comparison is cable tv vs YouTube TV, Hulu Live, fubo.....or Netflix vs Max vs Prime, etc

    Per WSJ

On another track, ESPN is working to make a stand-alone version of its flagship TV channel available to cord-cutters in two to three years, or once its reach in the cable-TV world falls below 50 million households, people familiar with the plans say.

During a recent conference call about its second-quarter earnings, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav indicated that his company is exploring potential pricing adjustments. Now, CNBC reports that Warner's interested in expanding its Max streaming service by monetizing sports coverage. Citing unnamed sources, the new tier will supposedly launch around the time of the Major League Baseball (MLB) playoffs, offering subscribers an expanded range of sports-related content. The MLB post-season starts October 3.

The package would include live simulcasts of games from various leagues, including MLB, National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL), and National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). It would also host content from the sports media outlet Bleacher Report, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. This blend of live matches and supplementary sports coverage would be intended to provide a comprehensive sports-viewing experience for subscribers.

I cut the cord from cutting the cord. Just cancelled my YTTV. $75 a month just isn’t worth it for the little I use it. Just stayed with Netflix (free with T-mobile), MAX (free with my internet) and Prime video. Also get MLBTV and MLS season pass free with T-Mobile. Cancelled Disney+ a couple months ago. Cancelled AppleTV+. Everything was just getting out of control price wise for the amount we use it. I’ll have to get ESPN+ for football season, but other than that I won’t miss anything.

I usually “pause” YTTV from the end of March Madness until sometime around football starting. Usually I can find CFB and non market NFL games on some kind of streaming site, but eventually I’ll get annoyed with searching and re-sub to YTTV until March again.

I figure at least I’m using it a bit more during that timeframe.

I've been using one for years I think we talked about them in this thread. $10 a month and I get every channel imaginable, PPV etc. It can get annoying sometimes when a channel buffers during a sports game but it doesn't happen enough to make it unbearable and you can't beat the price.

I don’t think the chart is that wild. If you just consider what we paid for “on tv entertainment” in the cable era vs streaming, I think it’s ok to continually show that what started as a way to save money is doing a capitalism. The content on the right vs left is different but so is the content being produced generally.

I do think for the chart to be more appropriate you should include premium channels on the right (HBO, showtime, etc) since the left represents a lot of that. But it’s not crazy to try to compare the two as a way to show money spent on tv entertainment.

and might as well stop saying “well I share passwords” since everyone is jumping on that issue now.

I'm getting sort of tired of paying for D+ bundle (so, ESPN+ and Hulu) and Netflix, but do need something for football season that has ESPN. We tried the low-grade Sling last year, but it was worthless. Does it make sense to go back to cable?

Sling has a sports package with NFL Redzone and all you the things you need…the ESPN channels, SEC network. And then some things you don’t, like the ACC network and Longhorn network

it’s pay up front for 5 months, but it’s like 55 and some change. Would just need a digital antenna for local channels
