There’s better brand recognition in the market and two of those brands (Amazon Fire, Roku) sell cheaper options that are going to do the job for the vast majority of people.
What does this do different or how does it place onto your tv physically different? bc thats my favorite device for travel being a yttv user
I remember TMB hyping the chromecast up to the point that I bought it. The thing fucking sucked. Who the hell wants to have stuff streaming through a second device.
The Chromecast with Google TV is standalone. No need for a second device. It was what the CC should have been from the beginning. Ours has literally never glitched, either, in two years of heavy use. Can't say that about any of the Amazon devices we previously used.
Are you talking vs using your tvs built in apps? In my experience the built in apps go to shit after a year or two because it seems like the tv manufacturers don't really support /update the software very well
every FireTv i have had glitches I keep one I set up with UK apps/shows/vpn and its an inferior experience compared to Appletv or or even Roku.
I am a Chromecast whore. Mainly to watch sports streams since I have YTTV and don't get Bally's. and other stuff. I have 2 of the Chromecast with GoogleTV and 2 Nvidia Shields with Chromecast built in. Love it.
My 2 fire tv 4k maxes has been flawless for a long time. Had trouble with the prior iterations and all of my chromecasts. I figured I'd probably just go apple tv when I upgraded my projector, but I'll definitely keep an eye on this new guy. But it is nice to just throw a tiny Chromecast in my bag when traveling
Only thing an Android-based streaming device is good for is 1) you can find them dirt cheap and 2) you can sideload apps (chiefly piracy apps). Otherwise, just get a Roku or go premium and get an Apple TV, especially if you are part of the Apple ecosystem.
Some quotes from Google on the decision to cancel chromecast and pivot, as well as the competition. https://www.theverge.com/2024/8/7/24215275/google-tv-streamer-chromecast-gemini-interview

Guys I need some advice real quick...Fubo or YouTube tv? I watch as much news and sports that I can, son loves news and music.
Monthly reminder - these $20 credits are rinse/repeat if you have a few different cards between Amex and Chase.
I have a couple of cards with that reward. How does that work? Do you have to change your payment source each month?
Yeah I already have a Google phone, so the wallet app has all of my methods of payment. Just re-select the CC used for your monthly bill here. You can also add the cards here if the aren't already saved to your google account. https://pay.google.com/gp/w/home/subscriptionsandservices
Oh fuck off. I now have an avenue to watch the Reds via my dad's password so it's whatever but them, MLB, & YTTV need to figure this out.
Just looked up Skydance. Started and owned by Larry Ellison's son. I'm assuming this is the beginning of the end for paramount+
Woke up this morning to not being able to watch ESPN because Uverse is in a battle with Disney. Great timing with fball starting. Unreal
Everyone just riding out direct tv? YouTube/Hulu doesn't get regional sports, fubo doesn't get a bunch of shit. Not ideal.
It’s ridiculous that I can hear fireworks from the Reds stadium from my house but have to use my dad’s cable password for Bally sports because you can only buy that out of market.
