Sling already has tiers The most popular one is HBO the others are shitty except for the one with ESPNU/SECN (for CFB/BB season)
This is the first time I've kept cable after the Super Bowl and it was only to get HBO for Game of Thrones. Now that they have HBO Now I'll maybe get cable back in Aug and cut the day after the Super Bowl if I don't like the sports apps.
just checked out sling and looks like i'll be getting the basic + $5 sports upgrade for football season.
also probably was answered in the previous thread because I know I asked, but what's the best way to watch Torrences without using an HDMI cable from laptop to tv?
Monthly I'm paying, $8 or whatever it is for Netflix, $40 for internet, $4 for Amazon prime (student fee) and I use a family logon for every channel that has an app. So about $52 a month vs the well over $100 a month I would pay for cable/internet (if i included HBO, etc).
But this is the problem. It needs to get to the point to where you don't need a cable provider login. That's why we still aren't at the stage of properly cutting the cord.
Moving into my own place at the end of the month, luckily I'll get Google Fiber. I think I'm going to end up buying an Alienware Alpha (http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-ASM100-1580-Console-i3-4130T-Processor/dp/B00MA7AMKY) both as a replacement for my ps3 (not attached to console gaming) and to act as an HTPC as well. I think I'll be able to accomplish most everything I need using torrence and an OTA antenna. The biggest problem I can think of will be NFL...Seahawks fan living in Kansas City :(
I'm wanting to put a TV in my bedroom without having to run cable to it. I would use my ps4 if I didn't have it attached to my big TV in the basement. I have an extra PS3, but you can't use headphones with the remote which sucks. I'm leaning towards getting a refurb roku 3 since it's the only system that allows headphones.
roku is a stand alone device meaning you don't need any other device to play content. FWIU chromecast you need something to use to fling your content to
So it's safe to say I'm getting shafted by paying $90 a month for 75mbps Internet from brighthouse right? Hell the cheapest Internet they offer, 30mbps I think, is like $50. Right now we have that Netflix and prime instant video. Internet comes with basic cable so it's fine until football season.
When I looked at cutting cable I realized it wouldn't be worth it after seeing the prices for standalone internet from brighthouse. Gat damn bastards.
Is it $90 with a package for cable? I have 75 or 90mbps & 2 boxes (1 dvr) for $97 after tax with them.
75 mbps internet and thats it. We had a dvr box before I got rid of the HD cable because they were trying to charge me $167 for HD cable, dvr and internet which was ridiculous. They just kept raising it until I got tired of it.
I pay $74.50 because Cox is a bunch of cocksuckers. That was for 25 Mbps and then they doubled my speed and basically said "hey you've earned it". Fuck you, Cox. Half my bill and I'll gladly accept 25 again.
Time Warner has been fucking me with $75/month internet for years now. I'm so excited to cancel this week, and to tell them that my internet is now free.95.
Does anyone have a Samsung smart tv and attempt to stream wirelessly? I recently cut the cord (directv), attempted to login into my parents' Comcast account and stream the Hawks game () wirelessly. Everything worked, but I received a message that flash player had to be updated. From everything that I have read, Samsung does not support flash player updates and will not permit an update. Through some research it seems there is a way to manually update flash player by downloading and extracting a zip file (SmartFlash 1.12) and save it onto a USB, then insert the USB into the tv to run the update. The problem is I have been unable to actually retrieve the necessary file. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
What's the best way to cancel Comcast cable, without cancelling internet, and not having to deal with a customer service nightmare? I just tried for 20 minutes, even opening by telling them that I was relocating for work to an area that doesn't offer Comcast. They said it wasn't possible to keep one without the other in my bundle, transferred me, and then I was on hold for like 10 minutes before hanging up.
i'd just cancel completely then start fresh with a new internet deal, either with them or someone else
They are the only provider in my area. My fiance works from home, so we can't just cancel completely.
I had a bundle with Cox, cancelled cable and phone and they deep-dicked me with a $200 some odd cancellation fee. You're probably looking at paying that if you have several months remaining on a contract.
hbo now coming to google play (and, by extension, chromecast?) http://mashable.com/2015/05/27/google-io-2015-liveblog/
definitely canceling cable now and getting sling. pay an average $160 for cable/internet..will be paying just $60 for sling/internet including sports package
I've looked into this but I'm just too lazy and don't have people to mooch off of. I do renegotiate my bundle every so often and have dropped my bill $55 a month the last two years while increasing my internet speed and getting more comped movie channels. I should just drop it all, but it seems pointless to do it now to only pick it right back up in August.
Bump. In Bham, Brighthouse recently re-tiered, pushing up my 30mbps internet from $54 to $59. It's still a good deal, but has anyone else seen this in other markets? I'm assuming this is more or less due to cutting the cord.
$55 bucks a month for tv and internet is pretty damn good. Between purchasing slingtv/netflix/hulu you're probably not saving much.
my new apartment doesn't give you the option to opt out of cable so looks like my cutting the cord life is coming to an end
I feel like a poser itt. My biggest "cut" is just not having premium channels. My company plays for my shit, so I'm lucky. But this stuff is really interesting to me
i literally can't figure out how to cancel sling tv. their app/site says go to Amazon to manage subscriptions but Amazon doesn't have anything listed i could check my statement but i don't like looking at it
just canceled my $160 cable/internet deal getting sling with sports package and internet from cable company for a total of $60 have Netflix account from gf and HBOGo from my dad
