So when I cut the cable Thursday they told me it'd be $72 a month for internet. I tried to call in today for a better deal as both Spectrum and the local competitor Frontier charge $45 a month for my same speed. Chick was pretty rude and said well thats the base price and the $45 is for NEW customers. We've only been here for 2 months. Well called Frontier and got double the speed I was getting for $50/m... Both companies are pretty meh, but the internet is serviceable, why do I want to pay an extra $20 for it...
I was cutting the cable but when I called directv they said how much you going to pay if you switch? They said ok you get the same price to stay, free hbo, and up you too 100 mbps Internet no contract. So $107 I’ve got two boxes, dvr, all my channels, hbo, and 100 mbps. Worth it for now since I can stream every where else with my subscription.
For sure, can't blame ya. I'm not saving a crazy amount going with internet only and youtube tv but these companies need to know how fucked they are. It's not me, but my mom pays like $245 a month for her package. That's ridiculous.
In terms of speed and uptime, frontier has been great for me. Just pray you dont need to call them and have anything done in a timely manner or have any kind of out of the ordinary billing.
I agree. I was fully ready to make the cut. But when this nice old lady from the Arizona call center gave me the same offer I took it for now.
When I cancelled DTV at my parents, they didn't even want the main receiver back. Guess it was too old.
Anyone else ever have problems with the Netflix app pausing fairly frequently during whatever you're watching? I have my TVs both directly connected to my modem/router via Ethernet cable. I supposedly have 100mbps internet from shit company Cox but almost everytime I run a speed test it has me somewhere in the 30-40mbps range. YTTV has never ever had a problem but Netflix does on approx 25% of the content I try to watch on there. I guess maybe Googles/YTTVs network is just better than Netflixes but idk. It can be incredibly annoying.
Had some buffering issues with Netflix last night. Not much though. First time I can recall it doing that.
For those of you with a Fire TV device, check out IMDB FreeDive. Should have automatically been added to your apps. Free but ad-supported movies and TV shows. Just finished watching St. Elmo's Fire on there.
Not many. I only watched the one movie. The timing of the ads wasn't the most well thought out like it is in Hulu, for example, but it wasn't like they just put them directly in the middle of a scene either though.
FWIW the Roku Channel app also does the same type of deal that Shawn is talking about. Tons and tons of movies and TV shows for free on there for those who have Roku.
Figured that was widely known for fellow Roku users but appears not. This IMDB thing just popped up like last week. The selection is somewhat sparse but I assume will get bigger the longer it's around
Office TV is pretty much dedicated to sports and don’t mess with much on it. Also amazon has owned IMDB for over 20 years. I think it’s a better way to clean up their shit menu. Ultimately if it can do what Netflix does and show the “value” of Prime while not trying to get you to buy 9/10 movies you look at, It’s a win. Not sure if that is their end game but I hope it is. Also would love if just watch had a universal app for all streaming services as well.
Is kodi still a thing? What do you guys use to stream ppv? Thanks. I have a 1-2 year old fire tv if that matters.
I dont watch a ton of PPV events. although im gonna watch this boxing right now. Theyve been pretty reliable the past few that Ive watched.
I have smooth streams (on kodi), sub and do not recommend. It works, don’t get me wrong, but I literally have no clue how I got it to work. Happens at least once a year as well that it breaks and then needs to be rigged.
I dropped Direct TV about two months ago, and will never use that shit again. In the same mail delivery yesterday I received both a bill and a refund check for $8.04 from them.
Been wanting T-MB preferred choice YouTube TV or to at least try it out?!? Not available in your market? Check again!! https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech...-goes-national-reach-more-viewers/2646006002/
I switched to YTTV in June of last year and could not be happier. I suspended my DTV account from June to December just in case I decided to go back, but when the free suspension ran out, I happily cancelled and shipped all their shit back to them. DirecTV and Internet Bundle - $169.72/month YTTV, Internet, Hulu (The version w/o commericals) - $113.98/month I can also watch TV during a storm now.
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/...s-are-going-poorly-and-youre-footing-the-bill Good article about how AT&T are trying to pay down their debt by layoffs and raising rates, therefore increasing the rate of cord cutters. "But longtime Wall Street analyst Craig Moffett of MoffettNathanson Research told Motherboard he doesn’t believe AT&T’s current trajectory is financially sustainable, given the price hikes are likely to just drive further customer defections, creating a perfect circle of dysfunction."
I'm no cord cutter, but you my problem is related. I stream Netflix and Amazon just through my Samsung Smart TV aps. The TV in my basement doesn't get good wifi reception, it's always buffering or bad resolution. Should I get a wifi extender or stream through another device other than the TV? Or both? Anything else?
It's possible a different device has stronger wifi reception. And extender should solve the problem though.
If you have an ethernet connection in the basement, could just connect another router to it. Don't know if that will be cheaper than a wifi extender as I've never looked at one of those.
So my fire stick died. I have a Sony smart tv. I am debating buying the new 4K firestick to load Kodi and Tea tv. Any other suggestions? Thought about taking the plunge to the Nvidea shield. Thoughts?
Idk if it’s cause my 100mb inet isn’t good enough, but kodi runs like shit on my cube. Runs fine on Xbox, tho. All other apps are fine on the cube, as well. I do have it plugged in via Ethernet as well.
