Was coming at it from more of the cutting cable angle. It’s undoubtedly media they’ll hold for ransom IMO. Could be their correction to cable cutting breaking the old model. Again look what they own.
My wife got pissed at Comcast and took back our cable boxes a little over a month ago. Just got my first auto bill and it's nice to see it ~$140 lower. Haven't even signed up for an online cable company yet.
You should set up a mesh network. I've recently set up my eero network Everything is running like a champ. I have over 50 wifi devices in a 5000 sqft house. It handles it all beautifully. Streaming service is youtube.tv and no problems at all running 1080.
Mesh network advocate here as well - I have 2 of the Orbi minis in my house because it’s only 1,200 SF, but it works like a champ all over the house and out in the yard.
that looks like it's just btn? i'm looking for an account for the steaming service btn2go which is the online subscription service. edit: never mind it looks like it's actually included in some cable packages that i should be able to access... edit #2: btn2go and btn plus are separate things. i am looking for someone willing to share their btn plus account
Once GOT ended I cancelled my HBO package with Dish network, anyone know where I could see if they are running promos for current subscribers?
Not gonna find much. Saw something that amazon is offerring like 10-20 bucks off if you sign up through them. Not sure how long that goes and tbh it’s the first time I’ve ever seen where you could get anything for HBO at any sort of discount.
If you have unlimited internet package on your cell phone from at&t you have a free subscription to hbo.
Look at Shawn’s link first and foremost. If your wife/BFF has shit she likes, it’s worth the time. Stilll going to be cheaper when it’s all said and done.
Have only tried Vue, but if I went to another one it’d be YTTV - heard Sling is pretty meh Edit: I also tried DirecTV Now, and it wasn’t terrible (I like their guide better than Vue’s), but their DVR is dogshit with only a 20 hour capacity, and they keep jacking up their prices
Yeah I know - there were rumors that they were gonna offer a 100 hour capacity version, but of course it would be an extra $5/month or something
Found out dish is no longer offering HBO Only option now is HBO now, assuming it’s just like HBOGO just no tv subscription is that correct?
And don’t be shocked if that changes or prices go up. HBO is now owned by ATT who also happens to own DTV. Shits going to start getting exclusive or you pay $$.
I would imagine it would go the other direction to drive subscribers and attempt to more directly compete with Netflix.
Sounds like HBO will be available for $9.99 a month through the Apple's Netflix/Amazon Prime Video style service that will be announced tomorrow.
I tried sling and absolutely hated it. Vue has a weird geological system and billing system that gave me issues. One day I would log in and Vue would think I was living in the otherside of the state because reasons? Also pretty convenient thst once they upped their prices, all of a sudden my billing no longer worked and I was kicked off the grandfathered cheaper plan. Calling Sony CS is like shoving a hot rusty needle up your dickhole. TV service was pretty good outside of that. Tried out YouTube TV and it seemed solid, but didn't subscribe because football season was over. I'd probably choose youtube.
I think this is where the debate is hulutv vs. youtubetv Hulu is $45, you get A&E and Discovery, access to Hulu streaming, unlimited devcices can access TV in your house, limited DVR Youtube is $40, no A&E or Discovery, can stream on 3 devices simultaneously, unlimited DVR I'm a youtubetv guy for now but would consider switching to Hulu as my 4 kids get older and I may run into problems with the 3 device rule.
Nice on the Apple piece. DollarBillHokie I agree short term potentially but I kind of envision there will be exclusivity within different aggregates of service as we move forward. Ie, netflix content, ATT content, Disney/ESPN/Fox, Amazon (they'll going in on sports big time), etc...... Get one at a base price with the subscription for a steep discount on the one thing you might really want. If you go piece meal it will be nearly the same cost for one item. It's amazing how much shit these larger companies own.
3 months ago I had to call Dish to lower my bill back to what it was when I signed up. They said the discount would be for three months. Here. We. Go.
Do it. As long as your internet is up to speed there’s no reason not to. I felt so dumb I waited as long as I did.
There is an add on service with HGTV and Comedy Central and a few others. Apparently people are stacking it and YTTV together as an alternative to DTV Now since they raised their prices. Here you go. Philo. https://try.philo.com/ It’s $16 so you end up paying $56 all in.
If you know somebody who trusts you and still pays for cable/satellite you could always ask for their login and install that channel's app onto your streaming device to watch. Did that for the wife for food network cause she wanted it, a few months later and she doesn't even watch it anymore cause there is so much other shit for her to watch between YTTV and Netflix. I occasionally do that for A&E and Comedy central too.
Also, for what it's worth, Sling Orange + Sling Blue is currently $25/mo for the first 3 months, and $40/mo after that. That includes A&E, Discovery, Travel, HGTV, Comedy Central, Food Network, and NFL Network. I believe those are channels one or both of YTTV/Hulu are lacking.
