If we're being fair I think a lot of people would say exactly the same thing about a 200 hour limit. I'm at a fraction of it myself. It sounds like we have pretty different viewing habits. How often do you use the three simultaneous streams?
I have the entirety of friends and Seinfeld from TBS, which is 200 hours right there by my estimate without even trying.
That’s nothing. I’ve got the price is right on blu ray. Around 6,500 hours of quality television entertainment.
I am a recent cord cutter as my 2 year agreement with Comcast ended. Really enjoying YTTV. There are some quirks to get used to but so far a big fan.
I appreciate you trying to make it seem like a 200 hr limit is comparable to unlimited when the cost is exactly the same. In normal times, as in non pandemic, I use and need 3 streams every football weekend. PGA Tour on one stream. 2 streams for whatever 2 football games we're watching.
I’ve had YTTV for two and half years and have enjoyed it and recommend it here. The recent price increase and loss of what seems like every other Braves game has really soured my opinion. If I was signing up today I can’t say I would chose YTTV.
Unfortunately that won’t work. Not “local” channels but channels that are otherwise available with a basic cable package. FoxSportsSouth, etc.
I think it's definitely comparable given that the former lets you keep your recordings as long as you want and the latter doesn't. I mean the fact of the matter with YTTV is that your ability to keep any show/movie/sporting event you want to watch for longer than 9 months is entirely dependent on it being aired again. And there's far more stuff that airs and doesn't get shown again for 9+ months (if ever) than stuff that does. Maybe that isn't a big deal to you, but you can't just hand wave that limitation as if it doesn't exist.
I’ve never had anything roll off due to the 9 month window. Anything I’ve recorded has always replayed at some point. The only thing I could think of where this would be an issue is a series that ends and doesn’t go into syndication.
If you haven't gotten around to watching something in 9 months then ok it goes away. You're trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill here. The ability to have unlimited recordings/storage far out weighs not having the ability to watch something you recorded a year ago. Shit, by the time it would have disappeared from your DVR by then you can just watch whatever it was on Netflix or regular YouTube if you wanted to that badly....and again that's assuming whatever it was never re-runs again. It's simply not an issue.
I have YTTV. Can't get Braves in South Carolina. Based on what I read and see on mlb.tv, I can't get them live there either. Is that true. WTF?
30,000 hours have passed since YTTV launched. There are 6,570 hours in a 9 month span. Can we please not argue that every show/movie/sporting event someone would want to watch since YTTV launched has aired some time in the last 9 months? It's just silly. There are very obviously common use cases where someone wants to keep content that's no longer on tv (shows ended but not in syndication, past sporting events). It's awesome that YTTV will let you record as much stuff as you want. It's not as awesome that you don't get to decide how long you keep those recordings for. The opposite is true for Hulu. And it also comes with a far more extensive library of on-demand content.
Whatever you have to tell yourself to justify spending the same amount for an obviously inferior solution is fine by me. Please keep giving Hulu or Sling or whoever you use your money. "Competition" is needed otherwise Google might raise the price of my YTTV even more lol.
I don’t have a Bluetooth enabled tv, but I enjoy headphone listening at night. Roku app + Bluetooth headphones gets out of sync fairly quickly. Anyone have a Bluetooth adapter that they like or have good luck with corded headphones and the app?
I guess I just don't see how the "obviously inferior solution" is the one that lets me watch anything I've recorded for as long as I want, regardless of when it last aired. Not to mention the big drawback of a DVR-oriented service like YTTV is that you have to know what you want to watch ahead of time (possibly months beforehand) for it to really be useful. For example, imagine you woke up today and decided you wanted to binge a series this weekend. This is what you'd have available right now for a couple of shows that have been brought up in this discussion (plus an old one I like). Always Sunny YTTV: 10 episodes Sling: 22 episodes Hulu: 148 episodes Seinfeld YTTV: 10 episodes Sling: 6 episodes Hulu: 171 episodes Hotel Impossible YTTV: 25 episodes Sling: 93 episodes Hulu: 92 episodes So sure, if you already know everything you want to watch, it all airs every 9 months, and it's more than 200 hours worth of content, then Hulu is an obviously inferior solution. But if you don't know every single thing you want to watch, or if you want to watch stuff that might not come on tv again, or you want to watch some stuff that already hasn't been on tv in a while, or you use less than 200 hours, then Hulu could definitely be the superior solution in those cases.
Lol Jesus man I'm not reading all your bullshit. Just take the L and move on. The one thing that did draw my eye was your little listing of the shows which of course is wrong. As I said before, I have every episode of every season of IASIP on my DVR. Anyone else who records it would as well. That's 154 episodes so GTFO with your bitch ass 148 in Hulu.
Live tv with dvr and streaming services are totally different. Despite this fact I’ll give you quantity, but yttv takes quality.
Hulu no ads + Netflix and you get all the TV and movies you could ever need and more than half the price of a YTTV or Hulu Live TV shit you can even add Disney+ in that and it still would be the case with the bundle live TV is a scam
My "little listing" of shows was the amount of content you'd have available if you just decided to start watching a show this weekend without spending months beforehand recording it, which you'd know if you'd simply taken a few seconds to read the rest of the post. I genuinely will never understand why you seem to take so much pride in being ignorant, or why you feel the need to call me a "bitch ass" merely for thinking there are situations in which YTTV might not be the best option. I don't get why you seem to take criticism of it so personally.
Anybody got any idea why the sound on my Amazon Fire TV just stopped working? I get a picture in both the Netflix and Hulu apps but no sound at all. Just randomly started last night and I can’t figure it out.
Recorded a show on yttv and the quality isn’t great on any episode. I did a quick google but didn’t see anything. Haven’t dug into the settings yet but anyone have any ideas?
When you have the show paused, click on the three dot button on the left and check video quality. If it's set to auto, it might not be streaming it in HD. Just click on it and set it to HD and it won't automatically switch based on your internet connection.
Guys it’s not my money I don’t care who pays for what service. I just figured after yesterday it was a home run response worthy of 5 likes. Boy I was wrong, people take this shit as seriously as poloticks.
I'd like to go on record that I do not at all care what service anyone has, I just care about people being as informed as possible so that they get the best service for their needs. I myself have ~11 streaming services and at various times have recommended all of Hulu, Sling, and YTTV to people.
I've never had YTTV, but I thought the examples you provided where Hulu would be the better option made a lot of sense. However, that must mean that they are not dog-piling you because of your posts regarding this specific situation and it’s probably more likely related to terrible posts you have previously made of which I’m not familiar. Good day.
I have no idea why we as a nation cannot come together more on major issues like racism and equality and... *reads this thread* Oh. Well fuck.
Let's not be too hasty here.....he's had many, many terrible posts previously as well. Bottom line, we just can't know for sure if the dog piling was because of his terrible posts in the past or his terrible posts now.
Started my free trial of YTTV this week. Only thing I think I will miss is being able to flip on the tv and punch in the channel number of what I wanted to watch. I think I can live with a few seconds extra work to cut my TV bill in half.
