damn, still down
and it just came back
i'm literally watching the NIU/CMU game on it right now
It’s not working for me either
keep getting an error code
Playback error for me
Still down here. How am I supposed to watch Eastern Michigan make me money at +8.5?
Just switched channels and I’m fucked. Whoops.
This is going to mean no recordings too I assume
my recordings won’t play either
get same error screen
I mean new recordings during this down time.
Back up here on YTTV and YT
I'm up and running
Just got notified in email hulu live TV going from 54.99 to 64.99 a month.
What else is out there? Cutting the cord isn't becoming cheaper option anymore
Got the same thing, I've enjoyed Hulu live - it's been a lot easier to watch sports, but at some point it won't be worth it either. May go back to just normal Hulu/Disney/ESPN + Netflix + Prime + HBOMax (free) and Antenna for locals.
Antenna really is super
What do you use?
I just got a TCL for my bedroom. What antenna should I get to receive local channels?
Is it something as simple as this?
yeah my wife and I were talking about this earlier, might be just as much if not cheaper to go back to Dish
I see these prices just going up and up in the future
Really depends on your location and where the broadcast stations are compared to you. You can get a one direction or multi-directional for roof/attic depending on the placement of the stations compared to your house/apartment. If you live in a place with really close local stations the tv top antenna should work just fine. I just put one on the roof and disconnected my dish stuff and connected the antenna so it runs to 4 tvs in my house.
Put your location in this site and you can get a good idea what will be best and just how many channels you can expect.
Have you actually price shopped the equivalent with cable or dish? Honestly curious.
I haven't because the rates for YTTV haven't gotten to the point yet where I question it's worth. I just remember back several years ago when I had Cox, which is our local cable option, that I was paying approx. $120/month for generally the same channels and internet. I'm still under $100/month now and it's a better service because no contracts, no equipment, unlimited DVR.
Well I had Direct TV a year ago and switched because I was annoyed my cable and internet kept getting bumped to $120 a month and they'd go down to $100 and I'd get bumped again. When hulu hits $65 a month i think we'd be over that when our internet is factored in (we just moved so I can't remember my current internet monthly fee off top of my head)
I guess contract carriage negotiations/disputes truly are never ending. The internet companies aren't any better than the traditional guys, it seems.
My local cable provider (spectrum) advertises $45 TV with streaming package, but if you add a sports package ($5) and they have a hidden maintenance or some shit fee of ($16) so combined its $66 or still $1 more than hulu raised price. Maybe if I call them I can get a bundle and lower my internet with it
Not bad until the first year or two is up then your introductory rate stops and it goes up.
Well I've had hulu less than a year and it's gone up in price twice now, I think $20 in less than a year, so id take a locked in price for a year the rate they are increasing
this one works well, best when near a window, and is about the size of a piece of paper.
TV Antenna - HDTV Antenna Support 4K 1080P, 60-120 Miles Range Digital Antenna for HDTV, VHF UHF Freeview Channels Antenna with Amplifier Signal Booster, 16.5 Ft Longer Coaxial Cable
Live TV is a racket
I have directv and at&t Internet with 2 dvrs and the bill is right at $120. The streaming capabilities are great in the TCL apps which allows my 4 tv room to work great for days when I’m watching sports all day.
antenna/ stream /stream
I'm at $45 / month for my internet from Spectrum. So even at $65 / month for hulu I'm still better than the att / direct tv package they tried to up me to. However now at my new house att doesn't have anything beside basic internet so its spectrum. It's now about even cable v streaming with Spectrum package.
I'll have to keep an eye on the fox sports situation. If fs Detroit ends up really getting cut from hulu, im going to go back to cable
Sometimes I wish I didn’t like sports so I could have no reasonable reason to keep any form of live TV other than an antenna
This. Outside of sports I can't think of a single thing I watch live consistently. And they know it too because they make you buy the higher package and usually an add on package so you have 200 channels just to get the 4-5 you want with sports on them
Even just as recent as a year or two ago there was a handful of shows I liked to consistently watch live but now I don’t even do that. If it’s not sports the chances are slim I’m watching it live, though there are numerous shows I’ll DVR and watch within a week of it airing.
I’m pretty sure I pay more for Comcast internet / YouTubeTV than I would for a Comcast package. Fuck Comcast though.
I have Google fiber and YTTV and it’s getting damn close.
The ability to split YTTV 50/50 with another household is something you don’t have with traditional cable. I split with my sister, and we don’t hit the screens limit. 3 is pushing it, but can be done amongst singles.
On that note, I'm willing to split my YTTV account with another TMB'er...preferably one I sorta already "know"
in the biblical sense
Shit, on Saturdays I have 3 screens going most of the day. I'd definitely pay $5-10 extra for unlimited, or even just 5. Would save me lots of money.
Pretty sure you need to be in the same area fwiw
You both have to be physically located in the same TV market for it to work with YTTV. You can google Nielsen DMA maps if you want exact boundaries.
I know this because I tried this with a family member.
I tried to split with my brother who is in AZ, but since I'm in Texas and have set the home market as DFW, the app will occasionally check his location/market and then block/disable his access because he hasn't been in the home market (DFW) recently...he'd have to physically return here every so often for this kind of sharing/spit to work.
You might be able to defeat this with GPS spoofer apps and stuff, but not worth it for us.
Well I hope they don't sell this technology to others.
There is nothing new about this. User location is pulled by almost every app. Tinder, Maps, Uber, etc.
All the video apps use this (YouTube, Netflix, HBO, etc) as well to ensure you can only see the content you are supposed to be seeing in a physical area, but they use it more so related to countries than to different tv markets because they want to show you the right ABC affiliate etc.
Right but I know for a fact that I split six different accounts with someone outside my zone.
I also use it at my parents, and there's been no issues. Only difference is the local channels are from my viewing area.
Anybody else been getting a playback error message for YTTV on Roku? I see several folks complaining on Twitter. Any ideas?
I’ve had it happen three times since 9:00 am.
