The "spite" thing is not the reason of cancellation. Supposedly, there is a decent chance FSU would be unable to play on Dec 12, which would be unfair to ND. The ACC didn't want a team to have an advantage of an off week before the ACCCG.

ACC just doing what it could to make sure three of its teams end up in the top ten

also gives ND and Clemson the best chance at maintaining top 4 status

Wake and FSU were lose lose games for both teams at this point

The lake in Clemson spans into Georgia and North Carolina is like a hours drive away. You think someone so inspirational wouldn’t be phased by such vast distances to cross state lines.

 

It's nice to see the conference recognizing the blue bloods (i.e., Clemson and Notre Dame) although the unfortunate side effect is that the basketball schools (i.e., Duke, Wake, FSU) kinda get pushed aside.

 

*checks to see and realizes Clemson does in fact have less ACC titles in basketball than FSU despite like a 70 year head start*

I doubt it’s still true but up until recently, South Carolina had more ACC Tournament basketball wins than Clemson.
