Wow, my wife made me watch it. I really wasn’t expecting too much but such an easy watch other than my brain hurting trying to remember who is who. I felt it was a cross between Lost, Twin Peaks, True Detective Season 1, and the Leftovers...really every great show I have loved. I think the stranger things comparisons don’t really hold up. It is a much more intelligent show. As far as who is Noah... I would say Borasz or maybe even Jonas. To suggest he is the antichrist, doesn’t work for me, because ultimately wasn’t he the good guy or did I not really get the ending? I can’t help but wonder what was supposed to have happened.
The show was fine for me in English but I am used to the translation. I am French Canadian so growing up I watched almost all the big movies translated in French. It was awful back then, now they do a pretty good job. Comedies are the worst, jokes are lost in translations all the time.
Doing a rewatch, this show is so fucking good. I think I picked up on something about Noah but we’ll see I guess. What an incredible show, well done and keeps you thinking all the time. My favorite on Netflix so far.
Yeah I totally loved this season of television. Such a satisfying experience all around. Idk how they handle season 2 but it’s a tall order to live up to season 1.
For me, the German added to feel of the show. Made it seem more mysterious or something. If that makes sense. Need to do a rewatch soon.
TrustyPatches we might disagree tonight on TD but we will always have Dark to bring us back together. Can’t wait for S2.
I finally got around to watching this over the last week, one of the best things I've watched in a while. I love time travel movies so this was right up my alley. My couple thoughts: Spoiler I was the opposite, didn't pick up Mikkel = Jonas' dad but was sure that was future Jonas from nearly the start. I think behind the door was just the barrels? Didn't she just make that shelter, then eventually the 2019 head of the plant move them? Spoiler I don't think so, the eye color doesn't match. Noah's are blue/green and Bortasz (sp?) are brown. Spoiler Ulrich just now living in 1953 is an awesome idea. I'm so stoked for where this show can go now. Oh and definitely team subtitles.
Absolutely loved this show. Dubbed version did not bother me. A few voices were off, but otherwise the music and everything else was too perfect for the English-speaking voices to bother me. Really glad I finally jumped on this show and I also feel spoiled that I only have to wait one month for season two.
Amazing show, just binged it this weekend. Used subtitles. Someone mentioned it, wish they would drop an episode once a week. Have seen the comparisons to Stranger Things, the two aren’t even in the category in terms of quality (I am a ST fan). So many twists and turns, just a mindfuck.
Yeah, I only use the stranger things comparison to get people to watch it. Hard to explain it and make it sound as good as it is
Hahaha I actually tried explaining it today and it is hard. “I watched the best show on Netflix this weekend and it is in German, you should check it out.” That was met with looks like I was crazy. Basically I had to say you know the feeling you had when you watched Stranger Things where you know what you are watching is special, it’s that but on Steroids.
Been looking for some spoiler free previews and one finally popped up from TV Guide. They got to screen the first 4 episodes and say it’s “still great” and “everything viewers loved about S1 is still there in S2”.
So I guess the best way to do this is watch it all the way through and then discuss? I’m about to start episode 3.
Of season 2? If so you should spoiler everything, if it’s season one I don’t think you can really spoil anything even to someone who did not watch. The show is a little too complex to get spoiled with a discussion for someone who doesn’t have a grasp of the characters and timeline.
Yea, S2. I’ll probably finish it, sometime this weekend and then start up (or join in) some discussion.
Spoiler Had no idea it was only 8 episodes. So angry right now. Real good season but the end of season cliff hanger has always been lame to me. Reminds me of fucking Lost
word. Spoiler tbh if someone watched season 1 they shouldn't be surprised that Season 2 also ended in a ridiculous cliff hanger.
Finished. Just some quick thoughts on the season and the ending. Spoiler I thought the season was very good. If season 1 was 10/10, I’d give S2 a 9/10. The start was good but I thought the last 4 episodes were excellent. I really enjoyed episodes 5 and 6. Two of the best of the series imo. In terms of the ending, specifically Martha 2 (I guess that’s what I’ll call her) I do have some slight concerns where that might lead. Obviously not much is too strange for the show but I would prefer it to be kept to the world we know. But these writers have done such a fantastic job to this point I trust them to bring it home. Look forward to discussing more once more people have finished.
Just finished. I’m so fucking sad ima have to wait two more years for this show. It’s like every exercise I give my brain to try and tie things together is rewarded by the writing yet it still manages to surprise me and keep me on my toes. I just can’t think show I’ve ever watched that just grabs ahold me like Dark.
Spoiler S3 has already started filming per the showrunner. Not positive, but I’m pretty sure the premier date will be June 27, 2020. The day of the apocalypse.
Spoiler I’m interested on what your thoughts are on Noah. He worked so well as this pure evil character, so much that people thought he could be the devil or the antichrist. The actor played the role so well. I’m torn on the direction they went with him this season. Regardless, I hope we see more of older Noah next season, the guy who plays him is so good. In saying all that, one of my favorite scenes of the season was when he told Charlotte he was her father. Intense
Spoiler i felt pretty early on in the season that Noah’s character was gonna get flipped into the “good guy” especially after the Adam reveal. That being said I don’t completely know what that means anymore. Good and evil are so gray in this show that idk if I’m quite sure that Adam is the “bad guy”. Finding out that Noah was a pawn in the game kinda threw me for a loop and that happened immediately so I had an entire season to digest the fact he wasn’t as important as I first thought. Adam replaces him well in that larger than life evil type role though but who knows how that pans out. That being said I was really hoping for something more in depth on The Travelers this season. I get that Jonas is the trigger but I’m still not sold on this all not existing before Jonas. It seems like there has to have been something before him. Maybe I’m just confused still and I’m certainly gonna rewatch soon but I just feel like there’s more to The Travelers store
Watched the first 4 this weekend. Easily could've knocked out all 8 yesterday, but trying to savor it. Still the best thing Netflix has produced iyam
Spoiler Completely agree about the good and evil. Middle aged Jonas certainly doesn’t have good things to say about his experiences with Claudia and I’m not even really sure I understand what her endgame is. I think what I was saying about Noah kinda goes with your thoughts on The Travelers. Coming out of season 1, I thought Noah might be some type of evil that predated the world and he led some group but we now know that’s not true so maybe it is just Jonas and some of the other kids from Winden that start Sic Mundus?
Spoiler yeah I think you’re 100% right about sic mundus being the kids from winden and there being no predated attempts to time travel. I suppose it all revolves around the power plant and the god particle and eventually the dark matter forming at the plant (which was done by Jonas, correct?). The issue I’m having is that if there’s no one who attempts time travel prior then I’m just left confused by Mikkel being the first to travel. I’m sure it’ll get ironed out because I truly believe this story was written start to finish before production but the idea that Jonas is the trigger, yet Jonas doesn’t exist without Mikkel, keeps me with the idea that time travel was something that already existed. Regardless I try not to get invested in theories because it always seems like a fools errand. I’ll continue to enjoy the ride but I hope everything continues to find cohesion
Spoiler Honestly, I’m a little confused about the events that take place at the power plant. How things happened, when they happened, who caused them. The way I just try to think about the time travel is it’s a loop and that makes it really hard to place a beginning because there really isn’t one.
Spoiler But you are right, even if we are in a loop now, there had to be a first time right? That means somebody had to establish time travel before Mikkel went back to 86.
