Majority, Mr Perfect!!!!!
so I’ll assume it’s just the longer cut? I just read an article and didn’t realize that it was just the longer original cut.
The theatrical version was 2 hours, 1.5 hours of which was Joss Whedon written and directed. The other 30 was highly altered Snyder footage.
This is four hours, 30 minutes of which is the stuff from the first, though very different from the other version. The other 3.5 hours is new.
It's not really fair to call it a longer cut. The different edit makes for a totally different experience and gives totally different motivations for some characters.
It’s a completely different movie
Its the same "movie" but calling it just a longer cut is not right either.
Pretty much everything is different about it other than the main plot points.
Its about 100x better of a movie in every way than Whedon's.
It follows the basic root structure of the original, but branches out in several places. Mostly providing a better experience. But there was no need for this to be 4 hours.
I really am starting to doubt how many people saw or remember the first one...this is just fundamentally NOT true
I thought it was fantastic and didn't mind it being 4 hours.
The LOTR style battle with the God's and Lantern was awesome.
Was kind of meh on cyborg because I've been watching doom patrol somewhat recently. Actor switching in dc is so weird to me.
Not sure if this is a hot take but tired of seeing superman as the antagonist. Not interested in the evil superman storyline. I'm not super into comic books, is he a major villain?
Darkseid has always wanted to corrupt him with the Anti-Life equation, but there hasn’t been a lot of traction with it outside of Elseworlds type comics.
Just finished after 2 sittings:
That black suit is Sexy
Darkseid looks like a badass.
Steppenwolf is way better as villain in this cut and that armor is pretty cool.
As said before, Cyborg is wayyyyyy better with his back story. Whedon really fucked that up. Wonder if him and the Cyborg actor were clashing on set.
Desaad looked cool as did that communicating stone thing that dripped.
Superman beat Steppenwolf's ass like Thanos beat the Hulk.
Still kinda like Affleck as Batman.
Cavill is a great Superman, can't believe WB wants to recast.
And I need some answers as to why Flash still runs like that?
Still can't make up my mind about Leto's Joker.
WB execs are really fucked. They put out the shittier movie. Only to somehow give Snyder more money to do a completely different and better movie He basically proves them idiots. Now they want to move on from Snyder and Cavill.
How funny would it be if they have to back track and rehire Snyder after all the glowing reviews.
I think DC is going to feel a lot of pressure to let Snyder do a sequel on HBO Max after the reception.
They probably won’t though, because WB execs are the worst.
A sequel costs like what $250 million min? Yea if I’m WB I pass
WW84 cost over 200 million
I vaguely remember the first one but this one did enough adding stuff and taking out Whedon's jokes that it can feel like a totally new movie.
It's a better movie for it, given it had originally started out serious.
Movie still has a lot of problems and stuff that doesn’t work. But I’m one of those people that likes when people enjoy things, so enjoy your movie gents.
I’m good with Snyder giving the reins to someone else to do a Knightmare or Apocalips War movie.
That was suuuuch a better movie. It felt long but I enjoyed all of it. It would be nice if we’d gotten a lot of the intro in previous movies, but we didn’t so this did a great job of getting the viewer where they needed to be.
I want to touch on this and how it ties to DC’s bigger problem moving forward.
I don’t think anyone associated with DC right now has the creative ability to figure out a story that doesn’t end with JL turning Superman back to good so he can save them, or Barry turning back time. Like, I’d love to see Snyder’s Knightmare movie but I have a feeling I know its ending walking in, and it’s not going to be like the comics. It can’t.
Or can it? If WB had a single brain cell between them, they fully embrace the multiverse in a way the Marvel isn’t. Marvel wants the multiverse to overlap - they want multiple versions of things to come to their reality. DC needs to go the opposite direction imo. Give the fans adapted versions of their favorite stories, even if it means the death of a major character, and trust that they can understand that multiple realities can be happening simultaneously. Openly cast multiple Batmans for different movies and don’t have to have them tie back to a larger story(you could, but again, no one at WB has the creativity for this). Do 3 or 4 major movie arcs and then move onto the next story.
Despite having done so many major comic book things first, DC is at least a decade behind Marvel in their cinematic world, with no clear path to fixing that. Embrace the madness, make individually good movies based on some of the best stories in comics, and collect your monies.
And while we’re talking about future movies, I want to talk about Shazam.
There was lots of love for the movie itt because it was a fun change of pace from what DC was doing with more main characters. 2 problems:
1) in what world do you inevitably matchup Levi’s Shazam against(or even with) what we’ve seen of this Superman? If only temporarily, Shazam has been a power check to Kal-el and without massive change of tone, I could absolutely never take that seriously.
2) I think Levi is going to get outshone by The Rock and then DC’s gonna have another problem on their hands. I love the idea of DJ in a villain role but I’ll be curious to see if they don’t turn him into the more antihero he’s become in recent times to keep the actor’s draw to future movies.
I loved Levi as Shazam, but he’s going to have the same issue pretty much everyone has starring in a movie with The Rock right now. Rock simply overpowers everyone when it comes to stage presence. He’s arguably the biggest action star in Hollywood. Especially if you give him his own Black Adam movie first.
I always thought the original Injustice story would've fit perfectly in Snyder's story arc. Plus I think going the direction of making Superman the villain is one of the only ways to keep him interesting as a character since he's so powerful
Of course you would say that.
so are all people from krypton badasses like superman? was their whole planet just a bunch of unkillable gods?
Under the yellow sun, yes.
But supposedly Kal-El is more powerful because he holds the codex of the planet inside him.
That's the big plot hole that just ruins MoS for me. Why the fuck would you want to turn Earth into Krypton when you could just suffer for like 5 minutes on earth and in turn you get these powers?
I didn’t, but I am curious as to how bad it is. I couldn’t finish suicide squad or WW84, so I assume I couldn’t do it.
Just started it again.
Don't put yourself through that
Flash mentions weird things happen to time when he goes too fast. We see the mother box moving back up when Flash is running towards it.
The Rock is also taking this movie very seriously. I’ve been following his training for it and he’s putting in some work in order to be the best adaptation of Black Adam he can be. If he’s motivated at something he’s going to knock it out of the park so I can see him definitely overshadowing Shazam
Lois was pregnant.
Did you read the interview with Snyder explaining the JL sequels?
Sure did. Their son would have been the new Batman.
There's a pregnancy test in one of her scenes.
And Bruce congratulates Clark at the end of the movie
Kryptonians have much more dense cellular structures because of the gravity they evolved/adapted to living on Krypton. Earth's gravity isn't as extreme as Krypton's was.
They are also and to process solar energy from a yellow sun. I guess technically they can from a red sun (which Krypton had) but the red sun just didn't give off enough energy. A yellow sun gives off more that they can process. Interestingly a blue sun gives off even more.
All this combined is what makes a Kryptonian so powerful in the right environment.
One thing that is always seemingly left up to the writer is the aspect of how much solar energy has to be absorbed, and how quickly it can happen.
For example... Superman lived his whole life on Earth and that entire time had built up tremendous solar energy reserves. Zod was there for only a few days. There's an argument to be made that Superman would always be more powerful than any other Kryptonian simply because he's been there longer. I never really saw that referenced in the DCEU though.
That actually may be the best thing for DC right now. A bad/antihero to rally around instead of the usual good guy characters. Have the movie end in Black Adam being defeated by Shazam but the audience was torn between the two. If done correctly, would be great for the franchise. Then everyone would know a 3rd installment of Black Adam coming back as an anti-hero to help save the day???
It could work.
Tex there's also a claim out there that at the end when they show Batman on the tank for TDKR that the people he has captured are from the Mutant gang but I couldn't tell when I watched it
I absolutely loved the added Knightmare scene at the end. People shit all over Leto but I was physically unnerved by that stare he gives Affleck after he gives him the Joker card. Really wished the "We live in a society" adlib had made the final cut.
Plus the cinematography during that monologue is probably one of my favorite scenes ever from a shot standpoint
This guy is always a go to, does great work.
Explain this to me like I am 5.
Superman peed inside Lois
In the scene at her apartment before Clark's mom shows up, she's going through a drawer and there's a pregnancy test in there that she looks at for a few seconds. Then at the end when Bruce is helping Clark move Martha back into the farm house, he says, "Congrats by the way." Those 2 things together (before reading what Snyder said) would seem to imply that Lois is pregnant.
It's 4 hours because of all the slow motion shots. There's actually only 37 minutes of content.
When a man and woman take off their clothes...
I like how Superman kept the black suit after everything.
Really makes you wonder what Superman's dick looks like
