Not using him as an all purpose player lowers his ceiling in an offense and his pay max. Ideally you want to limit rb touches to extend his career.

He’s a playmaker. Speed+quick+thick enough to take a hit. Still needs a creative enough offense to get him the ball in space. He deserves high level WR money. Wish the 49ers would pay him. Their indecision on QB is weird too. Put a core together and build. Hope he doesn’t go full batshit crazy like other WRs - Terrel Owens, AB, Beckham, etc. He’d kill it in KC, Rams, Bills, maybe Bucs if Brady can deliver the ball.

Idk I’m just thinking someone could argue his usage last year is getting him that next big contract. Particularly bc of Jimmy’s limitations.

I'm thinking Deebo sees that his RB usage is going to shorten his career and earning potential, and wants to get paid now rather than risk injury and never see that money. That, coupled with the contracts handed out to Kirk, Adams, and Hill just exacerbated the market and his resolve. It sounds as if the Niners are ready and willing to pay him, but Deebo just wants out. Maybe it's because of his usage as a RB, but if that's the case, that lowers his value imo. Still, I'd give him $25 million to stay on the Niners, but you can't force him to be there if he doesn't want to be there. Just sucks as a Niners fan. I think he benefits by being on the Niners as much as the Niners benefit by him being there. Hope he never sniffs the playoffs again, tbh.

WRs have 4-7 good years physically. He’s in his prime for a very small window. If used right for the next 3 years he could help any team. His biggest drawbacks are his height and potential injuries. 49ers front office has let the whole situation get away. All should have been done behind the scenes. Now there is a line in the sand and his agent cannot back down. Sucks. Liked him at the 49ers. Hope he goes somewhere with a QB that can get him the ball. He and T. Hill are both too fun to watch to be on bad teams.

Deebo doesn’t want to play running back. Green Bay has two really good ones and doesn’t need to use him like that.

Lafluer is very creative at getting guys the ball in space and moving them around to create mismatches. Green Bay has an elite guy to throw him the ball and he will be the #1 guy.

Honestly, you can find as good of places, but you probably won’t find one better than Green Bay for his skillset and not having to make him a gadget guy (which he doesn’t seem to want to be outside of a few plays here and there).

I know I'm probably being biased toward the Niners, but how do you think it was the Niners who let this get away? Just looking to see it from a different perspective. It was Deebo who scrubbed the Niners from all of his accounts, and who started posting cryptic stuff on social media. Per Schefter, it sounds as if the Niners are willing to pay him. Without being involved, I don't know what they could've done different other than assure him he'll never play a RB role for them again.

If I'm a team considering trading for Deebo, I'm sitting here listening to him say he no longer wants to play within the role that has made him a productive player and wants to do things he has never really shown he's particularly good at. That's concerning if you ask me.

I don't disagree that playing out the backfield and getting a ton of screens and short passes is more wear and tear. But he ain't Devante Adams and he is Deebo Samuel so I'm not sure what exactly he wants.

I don't think it is about role, but rather about the pay. I don't think he'd mind playing his current role if he was taken care of financially. Pay the man his worth and he will be in SF for a very long time.

Valid points and no inside info here. Agents and GMs are in constant discussion when players are coming up on contract years. My guess is both sides played their hands aggressively and it looks like they’ll both lose. SF was probably banking on signing him for less than a high end WR salary but the comparable free agents (Hill and Adams) blew that up. Deebo was the offense at the end of the year and wants to get paid for it. I’ll bet there was a time in Sept-Oct last season where he would have signed a reasonable extension. I think the social media scrubbing was all his agent. Part of the negotiations. He shouldn’t take less money because they use him as a RB. He probably wants a long term deal to hedge his bets against injuries. SF uses him in a role that has a higher chance of getting him injured (running between the tackles). That sounds like the sticking point. Very few people know everything that goes on behind the scenes. It’s fascinating but sucks in this instance because he’ll probably end up on a worse team and SF loses a great player.

Calling somebody, that forces the billionaire hands, to do what they want so they can maximize their earning potential ‘dumb AF’ seems kind of…dumb??

Antonio Brown did some ‘dumb AF’ things but a lot of these guys the ring<<<<maximizing their earning potential and I really don’t see that being stupid if that is what they most want out of throwing their bodies into the equivalent of moving cars every single week.

I didn’t want to lose Davante Adams, but fuck, I’m not going to talk shit on a guy that wanted to go to Vegas, make a bit more money, and play with his best friend. If you aren’t directly hurting somebody else who am I to say what is dumb AF when it doesn’t really have any consequential burden on our life outside of our team being better or not.
