Its impressive Hope they actually come to town to play Famu I could see Deion duckin that shit though lol
Jackson sports radio is great today. and if people are actually interested in keeping up with JSU then Rob Jay is the best source. I’m not on twitter but he covers JSU and is an awesome guy.
Been fun to watch Seminoles fans realize that it's still over for them as a nationally relevant program
Thamel on the yahoo cfb podcast roasted FSU for hiring a politician as AD, who had no clue what he was doing, and the subsequent admin incompetency being the root of FSU's issues Reconciles the Wake Forest NC hotel fiasco
This is quite the take We never had a politician as AD. John Thrasher was President and I’m pretty sure did a solid job all things considered. Stan Wilcox was the AD with Taggart and had one foot out the door to take a job with the NCAA. Coburn was a chief of staff his whole career and never a politician either so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't think anyone is truly dead in that conference. They could win the conference next year and it wouldn't really be surprising.
I would be surprised as hell if FSU won the conference next year, I would be surprised if FSU wins 8 or more games next season.
I just don't really think anyone is that far away from competing there. Georgia tech was in a bunch of one score games.
I wonder if everyone would be so certain Peyton Manning would fail as a Power 5 HC if he took the Samford job and in his first two seasons went 15-4, was named Southern Conference COTY, and landed the #1 recruit in the country.
Peyton wouldnt be that successful I'm all for Deion getting a P5 job Hope it's not in state or in conf
You had to admire that guy's trolling job right now. It isn't a FSU or any school thing at the moment. It's bad for college football that arguable the best recruit in the country is going to waste away at an FCS school. Will more people watch SWAC games next year? Probably. Are most people going to go out of their way to watch him play? No. I feel bad for the kid he's going to miss out on the experience of playing major college football over money. He will miss out on the pageantry and playing in 60-80,000 seat stadiums that make college football special. I also feel bad as a fan I'm not going to get to watch a talented player because he decided to play down a level. It's a lot like when Cristiano Ronaldo went to play in la liga.
Itll be like 3 years of practice for him and then take a shot at the league Kid made the right decision for himself if it all works out Sucks it couldn't have happened to someone else's top guy......that'll happen next year I guess
We don’t. I was pretty drunk last night so there is that (not because of an 18 year old recruit) I think you’re becoming way too invested in this thread and trying to turn it into some form of example of the FSU base when it’s pretty much a couple people that like FSU that think this could be really bad to have a gambling company and fucking portnoy involved in recruiting
i was drunk last night and it wasnt because of an 18 year old recruit either (it was because of a bunch of them had to celebrate mack's class)
I dont blame FSU fans for being salty. They had skin in this recruitment. Whats funny is the thinly veiled racism from general cfb fans over players going to HBCUs, as if Texas, Florida, FSU and Auburn are known for winning and good coaching over the last few seasons But them black-only lower level programs? Oh no. Oh noooo sirr not there
Go watch an HBCU battle of the bands before coming back and concern trolling about fucking pagentary.
its the academic shade they are throwing at HBCUs that kills me as if some of these degrees from diploma mill state schools are meal tickets to wall street jobs
I've always been comfortable with these white hockey and baseball players being able to go pro at age 18, but these predominantly young negro men having less incentive to chase bags at big state schools really concerns me. At what point do we draw the line?
I think the reaction is muted compared to what it would otherwise be because it's an HBCU. There's obviously people who are racist and ignorant about the history of HBCUs (both athletically and academically), but I don't think the reaction would be any less arrogant from major CFB fans if the #1 recruit in the country chose to play at Montana or James Madison instead of Jackson State.
Jackson State averaged 42k attendance this year, and they'll be playing in Mercedes Benz Stadium this weekend.
FSU's 2019 average home game attendance of 54,019 was the worst since 1987. https://www.tallahassee.com/story/s...tmosphere-mike-norvell-notre-dame/5745994001/ But the pagentary of that extra 12K people!!1
I just don't see, functionally, any difference between playing in front of 42k and 60k. Or, as HBG pointed out, 54k and probably declining.
I haven't seen any of that, but obviously that should never be taken seriously. I don't even think the lower competition is a big deal. The main risk in my eyes is the nutrition/strength development and the quality of care he'll get for rehab if he gets hurt. The former seems important for his body type, but hopefully it all works out for him. Perhaps the latter gets farmed out and isn't an issue.
fsu apparently has schrodinger’s alumni base too small and poor to compete with big time programs but also big and powerful enough to provide the necessary career networking post football that would justify turning down $2m
I am all for top recruits going to HBCUs. I wish it wasn't to Deion because he is and was a humongous POS before all of this, but I really do want this to trend and become more popular. I hope his imminent success causes more 5 stars to do this and help HBCUs become more relevant and gain more revenue. The fact that Hunter is now tied with Portnoy makes it real hard for me to root for him down the road. The FSU fanbase is pretty awful like every southern school, but I await the day this happens to an Auburn, Texas AM, or like a Tennessee which will certainly top this. The tone won't be suggestive, but pretty fucking thick
I could see Sterling Sharpe doing something like this to UofSC. Our fans also threaten to give his #2 to walk ons sometimes
There are several issues with the comparison. First, you're comparing outliers. The best year for Jackson State and the worst year for Florida state. In 2016, Florida State averaged 78,000 people. In 2016, Jackson State averaged 19,000. Secondly, you're ignoring road trips. In 2019, Florida averaged 84,000 and Clemson averaged 81,000. Jackson State's biggest opponent in 2021 averaged 19,000 in 2019. Pretending the kid isn't going to miss out on the traditional college football experience or that he wouldn't be better off at a traditional power program(whether it's FSU or any other major school) isn't a good faith argument.
I'm not sure what this means, but you're projecting an awful lot on a kid you've never met. What if he doesn't care about your idea of a "traditional college football experience"?
Could you tell us where the dividing line on attendance is between "incredible collegiate experience" and "missing out"? Just want to carefully monitor the FSU attendance numbers this year
Speaking on what any kid wants in a college experience doesn’t make sense. Jackson State could be the exact experience he is looking for.
