Maybe, but the fact he was committed to FSU for more than a year and had a UGA hat on the table leads to a different conclusion. Your argument would have more credence if he was considering Montana or James Madison as another poster stated. Edited to add: Or even other HBCUs so I don't get accused of racism again. Edited in your comment because it speaks to the same problem in reasoning. Maybe, but the evidence doesn't suggest that.
Probably because we don't have any UGA posters ready to drive to Mississippi and murder Deion Sanders
You are acting as if there is no in between UGA and JSU. FSU doesn’t have the money that UGA and bama have. They also have more money and better supplemental help than JSU. You’re shitting on what is a very normal statement.
So him considering UGA, FSU and Bama is evidence that what he wanted a "traditional college football experience". But him choosing Jackson State over those schools is not evidence supporting the notion that "traditional college football experience" wasn't important to him in the end?
being the first 5 star to ever go HBCU route showing it can be done, and securing the biggest bag in the process is objectively badass. if he finds that he doesn't like that route and wants to play FBS ball every school in the country will line up in a year or two should his name hit the portal. he's not being deprived of anything, he's making his own path. also please fuck off with using the word tradition for someone who likely grew up with very different "traditions" than you.
and it could be as simple as that. Life changing opportunity for the kid. Can’t knock him for whatever his reason is. 1.5million or so or go watch a Seminole throw a flaming spear in the ground. Shame he’s missing that pageantry
Love to accuse people of bad faith arguments while bringing up attendance stats from 5 years ago Unfortunately this doesn't meet the 60,000 person big school experience threshold.
Kid did a lot of gassing up to fans/players/recruits People, I think, are upset that a kid pulling a long con on them mattered as much as it did Majority of the fury has shifted to the several failures we have on the coaching staff
JSU being good and having Prime is good for the entire metro area. Jackson just set it’s record month of murders. The city infrastructure is in shambles and the potholes have gardens in them. JSU bringing in money and people is so good as it is building hope in the community. The metro area residents (for the first time in their lives probably) are rooting for the only local school which happens to be an HBCU. It’s good for everyone in and around Jackson. I’m sorry if crusty old people are upset didn’t get a star player and think black kids getting money is an atrocity. Screw yall. The people in Jackson need this. Mississippi needs this. It is doing more good than Deon Sanders getting a great player.
Sure it can be used as evidence, but does it prove what you said earlier? No We will never really know why he made the decision. Maybe he didn't care about playing major college football. Maybe he really wanted to play for Deion Sanders and would have played wherever he coached. Maybe he wanted to go to a FCS school. Maybe he wanted to go to an HBCU. Maybe he wanted to go wherever he got the biggest NIL. Maybe he got persuaded to do something because he's young and impressionable? At the end of the day, it's probably a combination of all of those things. Then a lot of people are evaluating the decision based on their bias and opinions, not always in the best interest of the kid.
SC State University has more NFL HOFers than Clemson and UofSC. I also like that they use garnet in their color scheme (garnet and blue)
Get TF outta here with this logic. Objectively, a blue-chip player galvanizing a small community is bad. Giannis bringing a championship / competitive balance to a small market last summer was pretty terrible for the NBA in hindsight.
Do you think Deion Sanders will be at JSU in 3 years? 5 years? 10 years? Or is this a one off situation that isn't going to jolt JSU into an ACC program? I understand the point trying to be made here, but I wasn't alive then. When I think of FSU football I think of Warrick Dunn, Jameis Winston, Dalvin Cook, etc. I don't really see it as a white football program.
best marching band ever created Phenomenal Entomology program Bullet Bob Hayes Andre Dawson Vince Coleman.....dude actually played kicker for the football team (beat the canes on a game winner) It's as much of cornerstone in this city as FSU and way back was THE university in town Love having both schools
Why does this matter at all? The excitement and attention is there now. The program has momentum, and that sort of thing can outlast one coach.
This is more transparent concern trolling. Every player Florida St signed is going to be used and exploited by FSU in FSU's efforts of institutional advancement. Thank God we finally have NIL
If they continue the same levels of success idk 1 is locked in due to his buyout money The other is gonna be the hottest coaching candidate in football
When all else fails just accuse the other party of trolling. If we're just going to reduce ourselves to the argument that all college athletes are getting used, are we really celebrating a sexual predator like David Portnoy is better than FSU, Alabama or schools like Michigan?
So there is no gambling deal and no Portnoy… I guess y’all can feel fine about it now because we all know that you were only genuinely bothered by that and not your school losing out to an HBCU.
