I’m not being glib. I think it will be fascinating. Everyone commits early now, so Colorado could lock in a solid class before a ball is kicked
I admit Hugh Freeze is a scumbag, I'm not cheering for redemption stories or saying I'm glad he's getting a second chance.
I believe there is a difference in the historical meaning of the term and what the movie is known for. The bits I’ve seen of it are disgustingly homophobic and misogynistic.
You think he can make that comment and just keep rolling? He’s gotta walk that back and grovel a bit IMO or he won’t be at the P5 level long
I'm at 50/50 whether he even apologizes I also agree that all he has to do is win and it'll just be a line on his Wiki
That's where I'm at. It will predictably get him in trouble with his admin or conference, but no kid will bat an eye
Watching that made me realize The Roku Channel might be a nice landing spot for the Pac 12 media rights.
I don’t know how this is going to go, but that locker room looked like a lot of fun I’m not gonna lie.
https://www.denverpost.com/2023/04/...ime-cu-buffs-football-transfer-portal-update/ prime and his crew today
Didn't one of the ports entries lead the team in receiving last year and have like 160 yards and two TDs in the spring game? A bunch of the portal entries were returning starters weren't they? Seems like even if they got passed over for a starting position, it would be good to have them still there for depth.
The only guys who'd done anything to merit consternation over losing them were Lemonious-Craig, Tyson, and maybe Aubrey Smith. I just perused the transfer portal and since Prime took over, 15 or so guys who saw action in the two deep at some point last year were among the guys who left. That includes 4 QBs, only one of which shows any potential, a bunch of guys who were no longer in the two deep, and a kicker.
Yeah they are purging a bunch of guys who were the only reason they were competitive in half their games. Interesting strategy.
One of the guys on local sports radio was talking about the CU spring game today as he went as credentialed media and apparently there was a multipage list of things they could and couldn't ask Deion. Embarrassing.
What planet are you living on? Your statement just...isn't accurate. Please...tell me where CU has downgraded?
"competitive" is a bit of a reach My favorite Colorado stat is the list of leads they had last season: 3-0, 10-7, 13-10, 20-13 vs. Cal 3-0 vs. TCU 3-2 vs. USC They never led by more than three in regulation all year and their only leads were against the national runner-up and the Heisman winner
Honest question for our CU posters: do you ever hazard to wonder, if even for just a shadow of a second, if this is all just some crazy bullshit that's going terribly wrong? Or are you all just absolutely, totally certain that this is all a perfect plan and Prime is a genius?
They'll ride that train as high as it will take them then bail the second it starts to go off the tracks
“Hey, guys that put your heart and soul into this program for years. Get the fuck out! We’ve got Deion Sanders!”
I get why CU fans are all in on Deion; they have been a complete train wreck for decades now (save a few outlier seasons), and now they have the world watching CU’s every move. It’s a complete 180. That said, as an outsider who willingly acknowledges CU was a mess last season, I don’t think the extreme turnover, in the overt manner it’s taking place, can be spun as a positive. Especially when the chances are the guys Sanders brings in during the second portal are as likely as bad as the guys that are leaving. It feels like this is going to be an endless cycle.
things have been going terribly wrong for decades. If it continues to go that way, we won’t lose any sleep. Just happy that after sitting on the sidelines twiddling their thumbs since 2001, our admin has decided to provide the necessary resources.
Absolutely correct! As a fan it couldn’t get any worse. Why not trust in Prime. I don’t think any fan base that has had the past 20 years would be any different. Let’s see where all our transfers land.
I don’t follow CU football at all anymore because it’s been so bad for so long that it’s not remotely enjoyable to spend resources on such a terrible product. I likely still won’t spend much time and money even with Sanders in Boulder, but at least the shitshow is fun for now. He’s going to crash and burn fantastically in the next 2-3 years and CU will just be back to where it was beforehand. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
While I agree, I don’t think this is all that different from fans of programs not named Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. It’s the reason why I’m convinced Will Muschamp Jim McElwain Dan Mullen Billy Napier is going to return Florida to glory.
I’m not, but he’s led two college programs into playing competitive football from a worse position than Nebraska is today. He’s regimented, doesn’t embarrass himself in front of the media (or privately) like his predecessor, and understands development and recruiting is the lifeblood, not a gimmicky playbook. I am certain there are conversations within the coaches offices that recognize they are going to be playing with half a deck for a couple years, but a half deck is more than zero.
I mean I'm CONFIDENT Rhule will be a success, that doesn't mean I'm absolutely certain. There are also a good many important differences between hiring Matt Rhule based on track record and hiring Deion based on personality. Especially when one comes in and starts working to make the team better and one just tells everyone to gtfo while filming it for his documentary. My sense is that this all looks crazy because it is crazy. Hey, I could be wrong. But this isn't about me, I was just curious about the level of doubt that may or may not coexhist with the bullishness among CU posters at this point in time
Deion is a narcissist chode but CU has nothing to lose and if nothing else it brings attention and excitement. Completely understandable why they're all in on the guy
I think it absolutely can get worse than just having a bad team, and I'm not sure why that idea's so foreign. There's nothing spectacular about a bad team. Over half of college football is made up of bad teams. There's nothing more ordinary. Now, being a bad team AND becoming a regular punchline in national sports media AND embarrassing the university (and yes, I think if Sanders' luggage ends up not being Vuitton, those well publicized videos of him telling CU student athletes to fuck off is going to be pretty embarrassing for the University adminstration), is a different story.
Sure, there are definitely questions — it’s a HR swing that could be a strike out. But there are a number of things to be pleased about so far that can be classified as "Sanders-adjacent". The admin finally made changes to the transfer policies to put CU in line with other PAC schools, a requirement from Sanders (and something other coaches had no success with). The admin/new president is doing more to embrace football and the benefits to the school brand and AD. There is reinvigorated donor support, which will never be big time but simply lost too much momentum in the last decade. AD revenue is up, even if a temporary bump. Sanders has also reaffirmed that recruiting to CU is not an impossible task if you avoid hiring, oh I don't know, Karl Dorrell. Regarding the transfers, sure there is concern that a full roster flip will take some time to gel. That said, counting every departing transfer since the season ended, you have a grand total of 1-2 departures that may have started next season — Casey Roddick (FSU) and maybe Tyson/MLC at WR though Horn and Weaver would likely be above them. Everyone else departing is either a mediocre-at-best depth piece or a body with a scholarship. For what it is worth, there are a few guys that would be frustrating to lose (OL and DL) but so for they are on board. Long term? The admin shift is sizeable enough that most Buffs fans would still view a relatively-quick Sanders departure as a win overall.
