Been in Colorado for a week! What awesome weather! Going to the Rapids game tonight? Uber is to get after a game? Or should I just drive there ?
Cholon has the best French onion soup dumplings I've ever had in my life. I lived a block off 16th mall for 2 years, it just kept getting worse and worse as time went on.
Well, have a vacation scheduled in June to steamboat springs, wondering if you guys have any recs on things to do in the area, I already plan on mtn biking/hiking but the wife isn't into as extreme things as I am. Have her convinced to do white water rafting one day. I've not been up there in the summertime and have only went to ski.
Hike to Gilpin Lake in the Mt Zilker Wilderness. It's about a 45 minute drive north of Steamboat near a small ass town named Clark. Worth it.
Hello, Is this the #Official Denver thread? Won some March Madness cheese and have been talking about going to Denver with the GF to do cool people things. Going to surprise her with a trip out there leaving austin 5/4 (thursday) and coming back 5/7 (sunday). What are some good places to stay (Either Areas to look for AirBnB or specific places)? We're not high maintenance peoples and don't need a 4-5* gig in the middle of downtown. only things really on the agenda are Papadosio @ Red Rocks on Saturday and either hiking/exploring Saturday during the day or going to that Big Wonderful festival Could rent a car or Uber Is Big Wonderful Festival tight? Suggestions on low-key / local places to eat for lunch/brunch and probably dinner one night Suggestions on one nice place to eat dinner we are human vacuums and have no dietary restrictions or preferences If there's already a post with most of this info in it or a general Weekend Visitor Guide by TMB - feel free to direct me to it.
***I've never been to Denver. figuring out food would be the easy part. figuring out the best area to get an AirBnB is where I legitimately would like opinions
I was there 2 weeks ago and we got an Airbnb which was really cool, it was basement 1 bedroom apartment for $85 a night had all the works, and it was a $6 Uber ride from LoDo. It's just Northwest of LoDo, we found it extremely accessible. We had a rental car, easy to park, and we had a 24 Hour fitness nearby and a pot store nearby lol
If you want something just out of the city, there's a house that we've stayed at twice in Idaho Springs that's just amazing. They have an outdoor hottub by a creek, a dry sauna, and all the creature comforts that you could ask for. I could pm it to you if you're interested.
Stay in LoHi, Highlands, Capital Hill, or RiNo. Spoiler Big Wonderful is really cool as long as the weather cooperates. Also since it's the Derby Weekend it'll be extra crazy. In terms of food my go-to recs are Linger, Ophelias, and Avanti. I'm a big fan of Denver Biscuit Co for breakfast/brunch. Couple cool food hall options are The Denver Central Market and The Source. http://denver.eater.com/maps/best-new-denver-restaurants-heatmap - Actually never tried any of these places. If you end up bar hopping the bars in RiNo (right by Big Wonderful) are always fun. Matchbox, Meadowlark, Larimer Lounge, Epic Brewing, Finn's Manor. Opehlias also usually has really cool DJs/bands and the crowds are a million times better than the normal LoDo bars.
Weather that time of year could be anything, so be prepared. 75 degrees and sunny, 50 and raining, or snowstorm. Who the fuck knows. I'd AirBnB in areas that have been mentioned. LoHi, RiNo, Cap Hill, South Broadway/Baker, Uptown will all have walkability to food/drink/entertainment Low key brunch = Denver Biscuit Company (also one of the better breakfast places) Low key lunch or dinner = Hops & Pie, Avanti, Highland Tap & Burger, Work & Class (dinner only), almost any well-rated taco place Nicer dinner = Linger, Ophelia's, Hop Alley, Acorn, Euclid Hall Bonus = Little Man Ice Cream (next to Linger) As mentioned above, The Source and Denver Central Market, plus Union Station, all have multiple food options and small businesses for either a meal or something to snack on. Bars and breweries are aplenty. Lots of great little bars along Blake Street/Larimer Street heading from downtown to RiNo, with a wide array of bars/music venues in RiNo. For a taste of different beers, First Draft Taproom is in RiNo - pay by the ounce, self-serve draft beer place I have some posts (might be 26 or 27) on previous pages about relatively easy/close hikes to do within an hour of Denver. Probably won't be equipped to do much more than that since anywhere out deeper in the mountains will still have a lot of snow on the trails.
good suggestions. thanks friends. sounds like a cool ass town can't believe I've never been. Also see that there are baseball games every night that weekend. does the stadium have any cool places to get seats for besides just idk "getting ones where you wanna sit to watch the game"? like a bar area that you can also watch the game from on a terrace kind of deal?
That Airbnb I sent ya is $6 Uber ride from there and you can walk to a million bars from there right around the stadium
unfortunately both the BnBs you guys sent are booked that weekend. not a surprise it seems like a lot is going on. but just knowing the best area is huge there are a lot in the $65-125 range in that LoHi area (whichever one was just east of Coors Field)
This. Buy cheapest ticket possible and never go to seat. And just watch from the Roof Top bars. Plenty of room up there and the scenery is more entertaining than the game.
Got some friends coming into town for a weekend of golf, baseball, among other things. Any suggestions on a good value golf courses preferably within 20-30 mins of I-25 and I-70? Also, any recommendations for things to do for 3 Floridians that want no business of the mountains? They aren't really hikers so that's out of the picture. I got food and drinks down, just looking for something fun to do that may or may not involve booze and weed.
Also should be a fun concert at Cervantes in Five Points on Friday night. Con Brio is great. I'll be there... http://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/1440433/tfly?utm_medium=api
I love Fossil Trace in Golden and only $65 right now. Being a Florida guy myself the back 9 is pretty different scenario. A couple of pretty cool elevation drops and gimmicky holes that make it fun.
Damn. I worked at Coors for about 6 months and passed by FT everyday wishing I could play one day. Tried to book for Friday. They're aerating. Course looks amazing from their website.
What kind of music is this? We really don't do concerts like that, for whatever reason. Just never have.
I would call them funk and psychedelic-soul. Lead guy brings a ton of energy for live shows There will be plenty of jamming going on with the other acts playing that night as well. Con Brio opened for The Revivalists earlier this year for a show I was at (had seen them before) but most people around me were flipping their shit wondering who these guys were because they were so good.
http://www.denverpost.com/2017/04/03/man-chokes-to-death-denver-voodoo-doughnut/ Would have been funnier if it happened while he was trying to eat the cock n balls donut
Great lowkey place to eat in South Denver is a place called The Bagel Deli over off of Hampden and I-25 (about 15 min South of downtown). They were on Diners Drives and Dives a few years back. It's a Jewish deli with great breakfast and lunch food. Make sure to call ahead though, they do the business and are always packed.
Random Question: do yall have the bicycle equivalent of "car2go" in Denver? I know that here and in a some other big cities they have (here they're called B-cycle) that you just walk up to a big station that has a lot of bikes, check one out and ride it, and drop it off at other stations near wherever you want to go. . *attached pic of what stations look like. We'll either be staying in the Highland Gateway Park / Pecos Street area, just west of Saint Joseph Hospital, or up around Curtis Park/Five Points area. --- Where would you suggest of these 3. Most of what we're doing is in the LoDo area and Union Station seems like it's gonna be a central point for transportation 2 days So any of the three are far enough from what we'll be doing to probably not want to walk everytime ( > 1mi) but not too far away to where we're going to rent a car. Just planning on Uber/Lyft or potentially seeing about bikes.
I'd do the Pecos St or Five Points area. You'll have the most access to different bars, restaurants, venues from those spots. Depending on where exactly in Five Points/Curtis Park, if you are close to Welton St you can hop on the light rail (like $2.50 or $2.60 one way per person and valid for up to 3 hours) and take you to the heart of downtown or Union Station.
I live downtown here so I use them a lot and just got a $60 annual deal when I signed a year lease. If you don't live near them (i have 2 a block each way) then it's not worth it but they're great for tourists that don't wanna rent a car. 2 people for a weekend is only $36. of course you gotta have a girl that's not high maintenance and will ride a bike to the bar in nice clothes. as long as I give my gf some compression shorts for the ride if she's in a dress she's been down to bike around at night
You've gotta be the only person I've ever seen say that. What the hell are you ordering there? Everything I have gotten there has been great.
I've had most things on the menu. I go there semi-regularly because there simply aren't any good Jewish delis in town. I usually pick up some dishes for Passover from them too. None of that detracts from the fact that it's a mediocre Jewish deli. There are only two Jew-ish places in town I'd recommend for out of town visitors to check out: Rosenberg's Bagels and Latke Love.
whittled it down to two places: Apartment that appears to be in the building with Zengo on Bassett Circle/Little Raven Street... I guess it could be across the street at Balfour senior living idk that'd be odd Top floor of a house that's at W33rd and Tejon around Old Major and Bremen's. Really could go either way they both look great
Your life will be changed when you go to a half decent deli in NYC, LA or any city with a decent sized Jewish population.
Anyone been to Globe Hall for a concert yet? Been there to eat once but haven't gone for a show. Larimer Lounge owner has taken it over so I'm looking forward to the small setting
Wrote something up in the travel thread. Looking for a few days - week get a way for my wife and me next year. Would like to be close enough to Denver to do stuff if we want to, but would still like to get a cabin or some sort of small lodge close to the Mountains in the winter. IDGAF about skiing or any sports like that. Just quiet place we can be a lone for a few days. Any suggestions?
Probably Evergreen or Genesee if you want to be within half an hour of Denver. Also look at Idaho Springs.
It was solid. Didn't blow me away by any means and I would probably pick at least a couple other places over it if I'm going bbq. Unique joint though in that it's pretty much a total dive and has that vibe. Looks like no maintenance / upgrades were done before they opened the doors except maybe adding TVs. Not saying that in a bad way, but just to know you're going to feel like it's a shit hole dive bar when you go in.
Favorite BBQ spots? I'm partial to Wayne's Smoke Shack in Superior, but that only makes sense if I'm going up to Boulder. Always looking for a decent BBQ spot in Denver proper.
