Tough call on top 5 but I'll give it a shot: Linger (would put Ophelia's up here as well but same ownership - they are all good) Hop Alley Acorn Mercantile Work & Class Hole in the wall/casual: Hops & Pie Denver Biscuit Co. La Calle Taqueria Y Carnitas El Bohio Criollo Cuban / Frijoles Colorado El Callejon
This is literally me. I have a spreadsheet that I just pop open and drop at least the name in so I don't forget
I went with the Franklin. Fried buttermilk chicken on biscuits and gravy with bacon cheese and added a fried egg just for good measure.. A heart attack would have been appropriate.
On the line of thinking for top 5 restaurants, how about top 5 breakfast/brunch spots? I'm going with: Denver Biscuit Co Rosenberg's Bagels Sunny's The Universal Ophelia's Special RIP shout out to Zengo, whose food was just OK but the all you can eat, all you can drink for $35 (?) was awesome.
I've lived in this area for over 30 years and have never even heard of 90%+ of these places. My spreadsheet would fill up a TB hard drive.
There are lots of new places popping up all the time, along with more than a few closures. Best single source for keeping up with everything is https://denver.eater.com/
To the Wind the plimoth Rioja Beast + Bottle Barolo Grill (only been once, but the uova da ravioli with spring peas is the single best dish I've had in town) Las Tortugas Pho Duy New Saigon Bakery Katsu Ramen Tacos y Salsas
Hit El Five while I was in town couple weeks ago and felt the same way. The tapas are extremely overpriced and that's coming from someone who lives in NYC now. Starting to get disgustingly hot and humid here in the city and I'm missing Denver more and more each day.
Yes and it's delicious but unless you live close the pizza gets a little lukewarm so just pick it up yourself.
Tortugas is bomb. Most underrated spot in town (not by Yelp but people don't seem to know about it. Solid other choices too on the hole in the wall.
Gf and I are coming for Sturgill Simpson at Red Rocks in late September. Going to be staying in Denver at (currently) the Sheraton Downtown on 9/26 but are flying in early on 9/26 and late on 9/27 so basically 2 days to spend in Denver. Skimmed the whole thread for restaurants today and will probably select about 5 from the following: Linger Steuben's Torchy's (very frustrated they haven't made it to Phoenix yet) Ophelia's Working Class Biker Jim's Denver Biscuit Co. Acorn Anything I'm definitely missing out on? Pretty much planning to just brewery/bar hop and get high before the show and brewery/bar hop the next day, but anything worth seeing in Denver that isn't way out of the way from where we're staying that isn't a bar, brewery or restaurant? I'm going to try to recruit Pac_Lion to show me a few places but any suggestions for bars/breweries is appreciated. Definitely want to hit Crooked Stave. Sounds like Great Divide isn't worth the time? What's the best way to get to/from Red Rocks? Looks like a $20-25 Uber ride from the hotel but I'm sure it's a fucking shitshow trying to get back.
Hit some of those restaurants. Yes. Uber to and from red rocks. Fuck driving out there. Great Divide's original tap room is one of my faves. It's not sexy, and it's not high on the beer nerdy level but I love it. Best beer bar is Star Bar. It don't look like much from the outside and has the dirtiest carpet ever, but has amazing beer.
been there once, guy I was supposed to follow pretty much shut the place down for a good 20 mins with the host called three different people including me before filling time with a couple journey covers
they have any 3,000 sft condos near good chemistry in aurora ? that you might know of ? kinda like walking distance in the winter maybe ?
But really the rest of their beers are garbage imo compared to what else Denver has to offer. It's unfortunate because their location/patio is great
I moved here about six months ago, I've been to a fair amount of breweries, I really like DBC. Havent had anything there I dislike. I also like Ratio and Great Divide a lot.
all the years I have been tasting beer . honestly I cant remember when someone got it right - micro . brewing . if it was so good a lot of people would be doing it . the problem for jon is consistency . maybe it was not as tasty as yesterday .
certainly not like Austrian insbruk stein frosty laterhosen shit , huh ? sitting at a picnick table with a wooden stage , and the stein has ice dripping off it . mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yummy .
I'm a fan of Black Shirt. Also really like Spangalang and Prost when it comes to Denver brewers. I'm kind of whatever regarding Great Divide, which may be an unpopular opinion. It also irritates me having to continually tell people that 10 Barrel is not local and also owned by InBev. I'd argue Fort Collins is the best town for beer in the state just based on size and number of quality breweries.
There's nothing wrong with 10 barrel. They sold to inbev but they continue to run their brewery. I don't understand how or why people thinks it makes sense to bash people for decisions based on capital and expansion
I didnt really mean you, it just happens a lot 'oh we hate wicked weed now because they sold to inbev' Yeah man, you'd totally turn down a few hundred million
My stance on breweries that sell to Big Beer is that I'm not going to actually go out of my way and pay for their beer. If it's around or someone provides it to me I'm going to drink it. There are other avenues to selling than going the InBev route. Plenty of private equity options that keeps quality beer out of the grips of InBev, who openly lobbies to crush small craft brewers. Im all for these small breweries getting popular/big and cashing out. Just not to the biggest threat to the rest of the brewers out there.
Little Machine is another good one that doesn't get talked about too much. I just moved from Lohi to Jefferson Park today so I will be there a lot.
unfortunately society in Orlando is clamped down tighter than Denver . u have the freedome of not looking over your shoulder at every single thing . it,s a total revenue driven world here . I used to love seeing and experiencing the new tastes of brewing . but it is a buddy dyer game here . not only is the fun of socially mingleing with pot a nono . but also the constant oh its ok for me that is all I can do as a officer to : . : to u owe me money for having a good time . life on the east coast is different than the freedome u have in Denver . I got tired of being stalked here coming out of the brewery , and the worst part is . getting the preferred buzz on and finding a way home being stalked . here u go get your preferable taste and take it home and hope ur buddy next door is cool . no consistant transit , uber is cool thank god . to actually sit and have a killer good time is gone unless u have a driver for ya .
there are micro breweries of course . and many watering holes bye the university . but orange county is a mess . totally education , medicine , tourist driven town .
