Pro tip: get the Reuben at Hops and Pie. It's the best thing on the menu and maybe the best Reuben I've ever had.
Hard for me to ever not go with whatever sandwich of the week they've got. I'll have to be giving the reuben a try next time because I'm a sucker for a great one. Usually disappointed at most places
Anyone ever hiked Green Mountain in Golden, I'm planning on going tomorrow after work. I'm open to any recommendations within 30 minutes of the city as well. Golden works well because I work right off 6th.
Any quick recommendations for the best rooftop happy hour? According to google maps it looks like I'm in north Capitol Hill. Chilling at the pool with a friend and were looking for cheap rooftop booze before dinner. Thanks.
Linger - most well known rooftop bar. Not cheap though Avanti - great view of the city. Plenty of drink options Los Chingones - Mexican place with happy hour specials if you like tequila Historians Ale House - on South Broadway with big array of beer selections (can do 5, 10, 16 oz pours of all beers) Peaks Lounge - top of the Hyatt in downtown. Views of the entire city. Expensive though Prost Brewing - not rooftop, but they have a small patio out front that faces the city skyline. German style beers. Next door to Avanti
Good list. Ale House (Amato's) in Lohi has a good rooftop too. Recess is good for an outdoor patio even if it isn't a rooftop as well.
Thanks for all these recs. Unfortunately I got pulled to the tavern, which is a place I went to last time I was here. Now at Ophelia's...$5 drinks and apps. Pretty good deal. I'll definitely try to check out some of those places you listed tomorrow.
Ophelia's $5 cocktails during HH might be one of the best deals in the city. Normally they are $10-12. One of my favorite places for food/drink/entertainment
I have no people or pets and my car is compact. Not even bringing a bed. I won't be on I-25 or I-70 during my commute.
thinking about checking this out while in town 9/30. Anyone done before? Fun or more of a hassle? http://thedenveroktoberfest.com/
Any of yall hit up A-basin yet this year? I was thinking of making the drive from FoCo this weekend, and saw that they have 18" of snow. Idk much about snow levels and was curious if it was even worth it to go.
Was in town about a month ago for the Strugill show @ Red Rocks. Got a lot of recs from this thread, esp. George Costanza. Halfway thru the trip the girlfriend definitely asked how I knew so many good places to eat. Places I remember were Ophelia's, Euclid Hall, Torchy's x2, Denver Biscuit Co. Don't think I saw it mentioned in this thread but enjoyed breakfast at Syrup. Enjoyed your city fellas.
Fuck Aspen Ski Co. for basically ruining this potentially cool day. Greedy fucks. http://www.aspentimes.com/news/snow...ales-shock-aspen-skiing-co-offer-scaled-back/ After selling more than 12,000 lift tickets for Snowmass' 50th birthday party, Aspen Skiing Co. on Monday decided it will no longer offer its $6.50 ticket — a nod to the resort's opening day price in 1967 — in advance or without a lodging package. Skico officials are stunned by the demand for the Dec. 15 celebration and need to alleviate overcrowding at the ski area that day. "It has taken us all by surprise," Skico spokesman Jeff Hanle said Monday. "Where are all these people are coming from?" Snowmass Mountain Manager Steve Sewell said he is shocked by the number of tickets sold since Skico announced the promotion seven months ago. "I thought it might be a few thousand," he said. What keeps him awake at night, Sewell said, is thinking about the amount of terrain that will be open for the anniversary weekend masses. On average, about 40 percent of Snowmass Ski Area's total 3,332 acres is accessible by mid-December, according to Hanle, but there are exceptions. In 2013, Snowmass boasted 2,500 acres of skiable terrain at that time. "It's going to be more about having fun than it is skiing miles and miles of laps," Hanle said. "We're de-emphasizing the $6.50 lift ticket and emphasizing the experience because we don't want to be completely overrun where nobody has a good time." Hanle said if everyone who purchased tickets shows up Dec. 15, crowds on and off the slopes in Snowmass would be comparable to Christmas or New Year's. "We don't know if everyone who bought a ticket is going to show up," Hanle said, "so we've got to prepare for everyone to show up." Snowmass Tourism Director Rose Abello said they intend to treat Dec. 15 through 17 as a holiday. "It's Christmas coming early," Abello said. Snowmass town officials will enter "special-events mode" and look at transportation and parking options. With construction at the base and the temporary fire department at the rodeo grounds, Snowmass Village is down 160 parking spaces. The marketing group is talking to local restaurants, most of which also plan to participate in the anniversary weekend, and cautioning them to "be ready (and) be staffed" come mid-December, Abello said. Skico's throwback ticket price may be a first for a Colorado ski resort. "It's really unique," Colorado Ski Country spokesman Chris Linsmayer said. "I don't know of areas that have reverted back to (their) original lift ticket pricing. At least not in the past couple of years." Since Skico announced its $6.50 steal on April 4, news outlets across the country — including the Los Angeles Times, Denver Post, Conde Nast Traveler, Ski Magazine and Gear Junkie — have publicized the promotion. People will be able to purchase a lift ticket at Snowmass day-of for $6.50. The only option in advance of Dec. 15 is to buy a lift ticket coupled with lodging for at least one night, and those must be reserved at least one week prior to the anniversary weekend. "I think that the whole weekend celebration will be one of those that everybody's going to want to say, 'I was there that day. It was a great party in Snowmass and I was there,'" Abello said.
So what I'm unclear on from that article is whether or not they will honor lift tickets that have already been purchased at that price. They basically have to, right?
that's gonna be a complete shit-show anyway. sounds like they should've had a hard limit on how many discounted tickets were going to be available in the first place.
Yes they are honoring the original prices for those that already bought. The part that pisses me off is that they are acting shocked that this has attracted so many people. Like said above, they should have put a cap on this thing in the first place but they clearly don’t give a fuck since they’ve already got the money from the tickets bought already. Have a group of friends who bought these months ago and have been excited about it, but now we’re probably not even going to bother. Limited terrain will be open and if only 1/2 of the people show up that bought, it’ll still be a mess
Yeah, I bought a couple. Figured why not. Not concerned with accommodation since I used to live in Snowmass and have plenty of couches to crash on. I'm still not convinced it will be a total shitshow. I mean town will be, but you can ski any of the 4 mountains and the most crowded day at Snowmass is still an average weekend at one of the I70 resorts.
I'll be in denver/Boulder from Sunday afternoon to Friday morning. Any must hit places? Want to take the girlfriend to Euclid hall. Any good recs for where I could watch the Raiders game downtown on Sunday?
Cowboy Lounge is the Raiders bar downtown. Denver Central Market would be a good spot for lunch one day. Every visitor I've taken there has loved it. Atomic Cowboy/Denver Biscuit Co for brunch one day. Get the Franklin.
Does that cowboy lounge suck? I don't mind just s regular sports bar that would have more than just the Broncos on since we play at the same time I'm dating at the Hyatt downtown Sunday night. We're staying in Boulder Monday night through Friday morning but we are going to hang around Denver most of Monday I think.
Maybe try Sports Column if you want a bunch of games on. Blake Street Tavern is also an option but tends to be packed. Denver Central Market for sure. Avanti's only advantage is having a rooftop patio with a good view. The food options and general vibe of DCM are way better.
Id really just like to watch the Raiders but also go somewhere my girlfriend would enjoy. I went to sports column a couple years back I think, I liked that place
One last idea is RiNo Beer Garden: https://denver.eater.com/2017/11/8/16624360/denvers-biggest-patio-rino-beer-garden-open Haven't been there yet so no idea if it's any good. Maybe someone else here has. Jake's, which used to be in that location, was great. :(
Have not yet been there either, but it did open very recently. Curious to check it out since it's from the same owners as Historians Ale House, which I'm a fan of. Just hope the huge patio won't inevitably invite a mega douche-type of crowd once word gets out.
I wish I had more than a day and a half or so in denver. But last time I was out that way I did more Denver time and only like a day in Boulder, so looking forward to that too
Megadouches stay in LoDo mostly. You get deep enough into RiNo and they vanish mostly, with only minimal replacement from hipster douches. Just look at the change in what Mile High Spirits was when they went from their old deep RiNo spot to the edge of LoDo. It was like 85% hot, chill girls at their old spot. Now it's megadouches and bachelorette parties.
