Watched a couple decent sized branches fall across the street last night. Luckily no cars underneath.
Just tried out Turtle Boat on S Broadway near Evans. Fantastic. Socializing in poki bowls/salads with a Colorado twist. Sourcing most of their fish from Colorado and serve a bunch of local kombuchas and teas. You can tell they very much focus on the quality of the fish they’re bringing in. You pretty much get a deconstructed sushi roll. Definitely will be going back. If you’re looking for a fresh and light food option this is a great choice.
Definitely Denver Biscuit Company. I’ll throw in another place that doesn’t seem to get as much love - Sunny’s. Just really good straight up breakfast dishes. Nothing too over the top but always well done
DBC is great but it's likely to put you in a food coma for the rest of the morning and afternoon. Sunny's and the Universal were my go-tos when I lived in the Northwest part of town. Javier's Diner is also a really underrated, unassuming spot in that part of town with massive portions.
Went to Sam's #3 at 6 AM and it was really solid. Will try Sunnys or DBC tomorrow AM Capitol Hill Bookstore is a wonderful used bookstore. They had both Clyde Edgerton and Will Kennedy
Javiers. Butcher block. Rise and shine. Have been meaning to try sunny and universal. As well as ruperts at Sloan lake Hancock got re-elected tonight.
Going to be in town for a short weekend trip seeing Garth Brooks at mile high with my gf as part of her bday present. To add to the breakfast conversation last time i was in town my brother took us to a place called Syrup for breakfast that was pretty good.
Denver needs about 2,000 more bike lanes. Good grief there are so many people riding bikes (or scooters) on sidewalks downtown Good little architecture tour to do is see the Civic Center area with the Capitol and City Hall and hit up the following churches nearby (first 3 are particularly cool): Central Presbyterian Church Trinity United Methodist Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception St John's Carhedral St Andrew's Episcopal
All of them carry very similar stock. Just choose a highly rated dispensary. Unless you are looking for a specific brand or type/food. What area of town are you in?
i basically camped out at the 2m tent at the denver bbq festival today holy shit i never want those smells to leave my nose
Their esquites were awesome. Also awesome was basically no line, unlike a few of the others. I’m rocking a pretty bad sun burn now.
I went for about an hour and a half today. Tried a few things with some friends and listened to the band playing then went to dinner at AJ's Pit BBQ. That place is absolutely fantastic.
I’ve been meaning to go to their brick and mortar location. Haven’t had any bbq here (yet) that rivals a few Nashville spots.
I'd recommend giving yourself at least an hour and go shortly after they open because the line is pretty slow. They had a couple things that were sold out but the food was outstanding. The sausage was incredible and it was the best mac and cheese I've ever had.
i’ve heard nothing but how great it is need to make my way over there soon i’ve had gque and it was good but felt more like competition type bbq than just traditional que
Work will be sending me to Denver monthly. Can stay in any area I’d like really, open to hotel and location recs. Already been 2x last time stayed near convention center but was in and out in under 24 hours. Future visits should be 2-3 night stays and I want to extend a few weekends also. Enjoyed what I’ve seen of Denver so far but no I could be staying in better areas.
Depending on budget, the bigger chain hotels on Speer Blvd just on the north side of I-25 would put you close to a lot of worthy stuff in Highlands or downtown. Otherwise go for the boutique hotels close to Union Station - The Maven, Hotel Indigo, The Oxford or check out The Source Hotel or The Ramble in RiNo. Both close to lots of good food/drink options
Stayed at the Ramble first time I was there, liked the hotel but didn’t love the location. Will check out the options near Union.
Just found out I'm getting stationed at Buckley AFB. My housing budget is ~2k/m and I've heard I'll get murdered in Aurora. Is there a good housing guide in this thread somewhere?
I'd take a look near the Nine Mile light rail station. Not an awful commute to Buckley, next to a light rail station to go into the city easily for sports, bars, etc.
Most of Aurora isn't that bad. Your best commute options are Green Valley Ranch ( I don't go out there often but I know they're building a lot out there) or Stapleton. Personally I'd do Stapleton if you plan on doing anything in the city.
Can you get a 3 br with a garage for 2k/month in Stapleton? I thought it was a bit more expensive than that.
Post Oak BBQ is awesome. Great addition to Tennyson St. Go now while nobody really knows they just opened. I'm betting they'll be busy as hell once word gets out. All wood brought in from Austin. Shiner Bock on tap. What's not to love?
The brisket is on point. Also tried pork shoulder, jalapeño cotija sausage, and jalapeño bacon mac and cheese. Loved it all. They had beef ribs as the daily special but had just run out before I got there
