Really thinking about buying tickets for the Finals, we went to several games this year and my som absolutely loves the Nuggets and Rocky. My wife is even invested in the team which is a huge win, but idk if I want to drop close to 3k for us to go. Did anyone go to the watch party at the arena? We might do that instead unless I can get us tickets at little bit better deal
you never know if you wait until an hour or so before the game, might be able to get some bad seats for a couple hundred each. I guess this is uncharted territory. how old is the kid?
I'm thinking about doing the same, I'm probably willing to spend 1k for reasonably good seats and I think tickets will come down a little once the scumbags who bought them up realize most people aren't willing to spend 1k/per ticket just to get into the arena for a non game 7. If there's a potential closeout game on the road, I'll probably get tickets for the Ball Arena watch party. Also, I'm 37 and I love Rocky, he's the GOAT mascot.
not sure about the quality of other NBA mascots, but I am regularly impressed by Rocky's in-game stuff. also he has that awesome moment where he passed out on his way down to the court. I plan on hitting up some bars I have been meaning to try to catch the game, including Congress Park Taproom and East Fax Tap
You’re a good dad. I’ve been to over 100+ Nebraska games and the farthest back I can remember is 5-6 years old. If you can afford it, go, but I think it’d be cooler to experience it with him when he can take it all in.
how's bar car next door? good food? worth hitting up before I settle into Congress Park for the game?
We watch a couple of OSU games at Congress Park Taproom a year. They used to do $12 all you can drink mimosas on Saturday mornings until we drank all of their champagne a few Saturdays in a row a couple of years back.
It's not bad. I usually go to the falafel or thai place next door and just bring it over to CPT instead.
my wife cannot stand Cheeba Hut. I find it enjoyable at times. but we'll get creative. if you see a 5 foot 8 jewish guy and his red-haired significant other, say hello
The owner/managers name is Woody so he lets us OSU bois do what we want. They don't have a kitchen so they encourage you to bring your own food.
So TMB meetup for the Nuggs finals games? Also, Rocky is the GOAT. I have waited quite awhile in line several times to do multiple meet and greets with him for the little guy. Also, got my little guy a vintage baby blue melo jersey to wear to games. He wants a Jokic one though now.
Casa Bonita reopening seems like it will happen any day now. going to be absolutely wild. plan on going in a few months during the middle of a week
Booked the hotel for June 1st-2nd so I will be there for sure for Game 1. TBD if I buy tickets or not
Insurance thread got me thinking.. I have been with State Farm for a little bit and am going to be leaving and opening my own agency here in Colorado Springs with Farm Bureau. If any Colorado residents would like me to review any of their policies, have any questions, want to look at new quotes, etc. feel free to DM me and I will be more than happy to help out a fellow TMB’er
hoping to catch the bus out of downtown at 4:30 or so before it gets too crazy. pretty much one more week until my hiking season commences. if it would stop raining all the time, the weather has been perfect. but I guess rain is better than a drought
None of you guys happen to be good at tennis? Took my wife to a tennis lesson today. Occurring indoors because of the rain. Had originally planned to reserve a ball machine but the courts are too wet. I badly need a hitting partner
Taking a family trip to Denver and Colorado Springs starting Friday and wanted opinions on things I may be missing or places to eat. Keep in mind I'm bringing three kids that are 12, 9, and 7 with me. We've never been to Colorado in the summertime so we are trying to squeeze in a lot of touristy things. Current Agenda: Friday: Staying at Hyatt Place Downtown Denver for 3 nights. Saturday: All day at Rocky Mountain Natl Park Sunday: Rockies game Monday: Check out and head to Hyatt Place Colorado Springs Downtown, maybe Cheyenne Zoo in the afternoon Tuesday: Ziplining and Cog Railway, maybe Garden of the Gods late afternoon Wednesday to Sunday: I've got a work conference at the Broadmoor and our schedule is mostly set, but we may have some free time here and there Our activity schedule is pretty jam-packed, so I mostly need food recs for the areas we are staying, if anyone has some. Walking distance to our hotels is preferred. I figured 16th street mall/Union Station area would have good food options for us before and after the Rockies game. No idea on downtown Colorado Springs. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Ian's would be a great place to grab a slice of pizza before or after the Rockies game and it's literally right across the street from right field. I haven't been on 16th Street Mall in years but Rio Grande isn't far and is a good place for Mexican that kids will like too
don't plan to "walk the mall" as it is under construction, but yes, you'll have plenty of dining options before the game. Rio Grande certainly works if dealing with needing to find kid friendly food
Hyatt Place is a little over a mile from coors field, so I was hoping we could walk. If the mall is under construction, is it going to be a huge pain to make that walk then and not worth it? I prefer as little car time as possible so was hoping we could get around on foot.
no. you could easily eat at D'Corazon Mexican Restaurant and then just take Blake all the way to the stadium. Hence their nickname the Blake Street Bombers
Most places in Colorado Springs are relatively family friendly. Phantom Canyon Brewery is really close to your hotel and pretty decent. Wild Goose Meeting House is close and pretty good. It's more trendy/hip, but relatively small, might not be great with kids. Skirted Heifer is close and pretty good. Old fashioned burgers and the like. Jack Quinn's is a cool Irish pub but the food isn't great. Jack and Johns is an ice cream place that the kids would like. Denver Biscuit Co is great for breakfast. If you want to walk slightly further I'm a big fan of 503W, it's an asian fusion place that's pretty hip and the food/drinks are great. Cerberus is a brewery that has decent pub food and good beer. It's pretty big and they have a tap room across the street too. I like Shugas quite a bit. It's pretty trendy with good food/drinks. That's about all I've got in walking distance to the hotel. They aren't all at the top of my list or anything but they are close and relatively good.
Not sure I would have recommended any of these places outside of Denver Biscuit Co., not that they are bad but wouldn’t be my top choice to showcase, especially having three kids. -Denver Biscuit Co/Fat Sully’s -C.O.A.T.I -El Callejon on Boulder is new with food trucks and open area for kids which is nice -If you and the kids enjoy pool then Phantom Canyon can be nice but I wouldn’t go there for just food -White Pie -The Garden -Dos Santos -Bird Tree Cafe downtown is a nice breakfast place I do highly recommend checking out the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo while in the Springs. Fountain Nature Creek Center is also a nice easy family walking trail where you will for sure see wildlife.
Yeah, I said in my post none of those were really the top of my list. Just close things that I thought fit what he was looking for. Agreed on White Pie, Dos Santos, COATI. Those seem on the wrong side of kid friendly though, but I have no idea. I've never been to any of those during the day. I don't have kids. No real idea what all goes into that. Never been to the other places. I'd also throw in Odyssey. Bar with good food. Again wouldn't really call it super kid friendly though... maybe listen to the guy with kids on that. No love for 503W? Criminal.
Our youngest is 7 and they’re really well behaved, so we can probably hang most places and not be a nuisance. They are picky eaters though, so that’s something I’ve always got to juggle when wanting good food and drinks for myself while also having generic kids menu items. It’s always a fine line to walk.
Never had 503W actually but I have heard good things about it. Have a 3 year old and bring him to all of the places I listed which he enjoys. The new restaurants/bars are just much livelier feeling than some of the older places Springs has to offer. COATI usually has a bunch of things going on for all kinds of people and love the different options it offers. White Pie has a great outdoor area which my little guy likes and of course he loves pizza.
Not to turn this into the COS thread but my favorite spots are: 503W Tapateria Chiba Bar Odyssey COATI Front Range BBQ Shame and Regret The Archives Axe/Oak Red Leg Trails End
I have friends in COS and they brag about a Japanese restaurant that evidently rocks but I don’t know the name. Hope to go with them soon.
Fujiyama maybe? I think that's the most well known one. I'm kind of whatever on it. Their sushi is ok but there's better for cheaper so we rarely go there.
I moved to COS from Chicago so I think most of the food here is pretty underwhelming (I'm a snobby stuck up elite who is better than everyone)
I can’t even think of another Japanese place that isn’t strip mall sushi. Unless Chiba Bar is considered Japanese? In which case I’m a fan and I won’t hear a word against it.
My COS hot takes are that Four by Brother Luck is not good, Rabbit Hole has like 2 good things on the menu and the drinks are bad, and that Ephemera is so overpriced it’s not worth it.
The food is honestly pretty good but it's PRICEY. We also always do the wine pairing which doesn't help.
This is why I recommended Rio Grande, you guys can have some really good margaritas and overall pretty good Mexican food but I'm sure they have stuff kids would like. Cool vibe on the patio too.
fuck the rabbit hole hate never been to four, but lucky dumpling was fantastic anything ivywild is both adult and kid friendly and the new patio space they just built was good for my boys to run around
