It’s a whole thing that I don’t have time to go into full detail on but I’ll just say that within 3 months of moving to the area my home was broken into in broad daylight on a Saturday while I was home by 4 men with baseball bats. I was recovering from surgery so best I could do was yell up from the basement and hope they didn’t kill my dogs. The police pulled up behind them as they were getting away, had them dead to rights at a stoplight but when they turned their lights on the truck sped away and they have a do not pursue policy for nonviolent crime (even felonies). I should have said one of them pushed me or something (they were clearly ready to do harm if they needed to) but had no idea about the policy. They pulled DNA but the lab here won’t run DNA for property theft, only murders, rapes etc. The police just suggested I get more guns (seriously). Since then, heard countless stories from others about similar crimes or vehicle theft etc across the metro. Even heard a story of guys specifically targeting an attractive woman in Arvada in a gated community while her husband was away. Very few offenders are ever caught. If you follow any of the individual city Facebook groups they’re filled with theft stories.
My Aussie buddy is coming into town next week. Big steak guy. What’s your favorite steak place? Been to Guard and Grace a couple of years ago. Remember it being good. Only other steak I’ve had since moving here was at Mannings.
Oh still super happy with the move. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong but this place is still awesome
God damn. Any particular reason you think your house got targeted over others? Having to set an alarm in the middle of the day is something.
Funny thing is, the sheriff got back to me 2 weeks ago. I guess they recovered a cell phone from the truck they left in Louisville. They were from Los Angeles, had recently arrived in the country from Chile. Drove to Colorado to commit burglaries. Arrived in Denver the day before and left the day after. So completely random crime that just happened to hit us as I was recovering from ACL surgery. We have like 7 cameras now
Yeah I leave my front door unlocked, back door unlocked and garage open half the day while I’m upstairs working. I’m out a bit which is probably why nothing has happened but should probably stop doing that.
I never feel unsafe here mostly because I’m oblivious and think I can relate to anyone, but last night in Rino.
I went and saw Billy Joel at Coors tonight. I knew he was getting up there but didn't know he was 75, still sounded great.
Starting this month until Labor Day, Rosenberg’s Bagels at 725 E. 26th Ave. in Five Points is hosting a late-night slider pop-up dubbed RosenBurger’s from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Can’t believe sublime is playing there. That’s nuts. Have fun. I’ll be at night one of the underground music showcase
Yeah I'm pretty sure they're playing Red Rocks on Saturday which would still be dope but seeing them in a small venue seemed much cooler. I have a coworker going to UMS, sounds fun.
Esp Hifi still my favorite bar downtown Crested Butte is also my new retirement clubhouse leader. That place rules.
Shit for what reasons. Access? Quality? I'm close to leaving this overgrown city and moving to a mountain town.
Mostly access. Live in the mountains in AZ and people are seeing month-long wait times to see a primary doc.
Been wanting to go there. But wasn’t sure if it was a stuck up vibe. crusty is great. For all seasons. Good during the summer. Beautiful in October. And awesome for ski season.
Access is rough, it's by far our #1 complaint where I work in Denver. Kind of surprising though since I would think primary care docs would prefer to work in the mountains rather less appealing areas of the country, but I'm sure there's more to it....like enough practices to hire them and buildings to house them. We're looking at Eagle/Basalt, Ridgeway/Montrose, Pagosa/Durango/Mancos mostly, not sure where we'll land. Looked at Flagstaff, but not really seeing the property we're looking for there. Haven't checked for a couple months though.
I absolutely love Salida, always go there for ski season and the summer is great with the river there.
‘’Twas a beautiful night, tried Izakaya Amu in Boulder for the first time and was reminded why I left Arkansas. Caught sunset at Avanti as well
Good to know. They were the spot to drink underage in college if you wanted to go out to dinner. Always want the nostalgic spots to remain, and there are barely any left in Boulder.
Have a quick in and out trip to Denver on Sep 13th. Rockies host the Cubs that night so would like to check that out. Any recs on where to stay, within walking distance? Will be solo, not sure if I’ll have a rental or not yet. I’ll get into town the morning of the 13th and am flying back to KC the next morning. Only ever driven through so excited to check out a game and walk around a bit.
dont need a rental car. Train into the city is very easy and cheap. There's plenty of Hotels downtown near the Stadium
I just stayed here solo and liked my room a lot: https://www.slatedenver.com/ It's 30 minute walk to Coors Field though; I'm sure this thread can recommend you somewhere closer.
My favorite hiking trails are in serious danger of burning, that would hurt. Go there at least 10 times a year. Someone on my staff has a house pretty close. Can't walk my dogs each night for an hour unless I want to breathe in the toxic air. This summer is going to shit.
any recs on fun places for lunch for families? got a 5 and 1 year old and my youngest sister is visiting and would like to go to a place fitting for all
some dim sum could be fun for lunch, unless something like Nana's or Star Kitchen isn't quite family friendly enough
