That’s great. Looks like you hit some good stuff. And ya, wynkoop has been a let down for a long time.
Wouldn’t have been my choice but somebody in the office said we had to try it I guess. Many years ago I had someone insist we go to Olive Garden for a team dinner so I’ve been dealt worse hands.
Some new version of Blake Street Tavern is coming back in April! Hell yeah. Nostalgia overload for the original.
Hahaha. I fucking hated Chris. I spent a ton of time and money in the original and the second location and that fucker was always an ass to me for no good reason.
New Concept Opening in Former Blake Street Tavern Since iconic sports bar Blake Street Tavern closed in April 2023, the cavernous space at 2301 Blake Street has been empty. But that will change this spring, when a new sports and entertainment bar moves in. Harper and Hudson Hospitality Group, which operates the Tavern Snowmass in the Aspen Valley, plans to open Tavern on Blake Street by Rockies Opening Day on April 4. Jeff and Ashley Moerke run Harper and Hudson, which is named after their two children. The couple also own an apparel brand called Harper + Hudson, an affordable restaurant concept called Aspen Country Food and Beverage, and an Italian restaurant named Il Poggio in Snowmass Village. But the Blake Street Tavern had always been close to Ashley’s heart, as she worked there a decade ago. And when the Moerkes heard that Blake Street Tavern owner Chris Fuselier was planning to close the place, they offered to buy it. For a variety of reasons, Fuselier wasn’t interested in selling, Jeff says, so the Moerkes had to wait a while to “reunite the nostalgia” of Blake Street. “Everybody that I know in Denver has some type of great story and moment of being in there,” he adds. The concept for the Tavern on Blake Street will be very similar to that of the Aspen spot, Jeff says. That bar is known for large nacho platters and high-quality chicken wings, with a wing Wednesday special. It often hosts live music, karaoke and trivia nights for slow times over the summer and in the evenings during ski season. “If you want to come in and spend a lot of money with me, I have Dom Pérignon and tomahawk steaks and seafood towers," he says, "but if you want to come in and dine on a budget, I got burgers, chicken wings, happy hour, nachos the size of your entire face. I can get you full and drunk for 25 bucks.” The same will be true in Denver, Jeff says, where the many TVs will be showing sports constantly, and big sporting events like UFC fights will have dedicated watch parties. The basement of the building, which held arcade games in its previous iteration, will be more music and DJ-focused.
And While the bar will still be on 2301 Blake Street, there’s a new look. The tavern has a new Instagram, which lists the bar as “Tavern on Blake Street.” The spot is also changing the concept of the establishment. On its new Instagram, the tavern is listed as a sports bar, music venue, restaurant and club. The new spot is where a “Music Venue Meets Sports Bar,” according to its new Instagram biography.
Yeah, I read that about wanting to have the lower level be a music venue. I don’t see how that could work, but that’s not my problem.
Ugh Finn’s Manor was so wonderful until Federales opened up and now the worst crowd ever ends up there
Everywhere seemed kinda dead Tuesday night (except Fish N Beer). Finn’s was empty except for a few other guys sitting at the end of the bar. Had a Pliny the Elder, one of the bartenders gave me a shot of Fontbonne, and I went on my way.
Any good Mexican food recommendations? I know it’s more authentic and different than the Tex-Mex we have in Tennessee, but looking for something other than a Cochino or Suerte type place. Thanks.
La familia + Rosales bakery was always a good take out night. obviously nice and not exactly Mexican but the Fonda fina and Lucina groups have multiple super nice restaurants serving Mexican or Mexican adjacent cuisine. and as always, La abeja has the best burritos smothered in green chile in the city
A core tenant of being a burrito is being portable and able to be picked up and eaten with your hands. Smothering defeats both. If you don’t want to call it an enchilada, fine. But it has ceased being a burrito.
Have had a great few days. Snowshoed all the way up St Mary’s Glacier on Tuesday followed by King of Wings, biked and hit Avery yesterday, then biked to some dank sushi today. Love this place
Walking distance from the house. They were sold out of banana pudding the other day, but the bbq was pretty good.
Jax is one of our favorite spots; I wasn’t expecting much because they have 5 locations but it’s always so good. The Thai green curry mussels, happy hour martinis, tuna tartare are just a few of our favorites.
I think it’s oyster month in March plus they do crawfish boils for Mardi Gras. The owner is from Louisiana
Also, is anyone going to Wu Tang/Run the Jewels on the Fourth of July? Playing at Fiddlers Green and I’m debating buying tickets.
Copied from the bump when high thread. Well, I guess I’m going to Wu-Tang/Run the Jewels. I may be the oldest person there.
