I have to admit, I'm pretty down on Bungie right now myself. I am not a fan of a lot of the moves they have made. They somehow seemed less greedy when they were owned by Activision. This next season will be telling but if it's a shitty as this one is then my time with Destiny might be coming to an end. Also agreed on the raid. The stupid tether mechanic sucks.
This entire season just seems like a giant step backwards (in no small part thanks to some of the core design/sandbox changes they decided to implement) and it sounds like we'll be getting more of the same, just less of it, moving forward.
i haven't played yet really. is the final assault thing just a different boss at the end of vex offensive? does the portal in the tower do anything? what's new about this?
Same exact activity with a different boss at the end. The portal in the tower doesn't even look finished.
I think Bungie has gotten away with re-skins far too often. The "new" guns from VO are just previous guns with leafs on them. The moon, while neat and fun, was brought over from D1. The Undying Mind is literally the exact same as VO just swapping out the boss. "New" crucible maps; no, bringing old maps back. Iron Banner is brought back every 2 weeks. I liked the EP mode they brought to the moon. I'm sure there's a lot of money and resources required to make content, but they're focused too much on eververse BS and not enough in game changes. If they have their social team check out Reddit, they are in for an ass kicking. I have no idea how the expansions on WoW work. Are they basically reskins? I like the idea of a slow release of new content, selfishly, cause it gives me a chance to stay even with people rather than the crowd that can sink 4+ hours into it daily.
I'm okay with the dripfeed if its good content. But the final offensive was touted as some big event that will kick off the events of next season. Unless there is some kind of surprise in store then I don't see what the big event was. Also, they continue to let crucible rot even though that is where 50% of their active players spend their time.
I do enjoy the Dungeon - find a way to expand on those I do like the tiers of nightfalls, and being able to continue to run them to try to get the best rewards possible (outside the powerful/pinnacle drop) Didn't do the raid, but it's always nice to get a new one New crucible mode, at least they did something The moon allows you to do the essence's to obtain a perfect rolled weapon, yet I don't ever hear anybody talk about using them. Are they any good? I like the idea of armor 2.0, but if you want people to use different armors to make specific builds, I think there needs to be a way of saving gear sets. I don't want to have to look through all my gear to find out which one I was using for bosses, which one for raiding, etc
They did a lot right with this season as well. Don't want to make it seem like it's all bad but I see some steps in the wrong direction and it feels like we are creeping back towards year one. Every exotic released this season is basically trash which is not good. Having to two tap red bars with hand cannons feels awful. I do like armor 2.0 for the most part. Just hate the affinity thing especially on exotics. It feels terrible.
Borderlands, guys. They’re adding weapons weekly and Thur they drop mayhem 4 and the second free content update in a month. I love the fact I can sit it down and go play other games then jump right back in when they drop new shit easy peasy. They’ve ironed out a load of the balance issues as well so you can play with your load out in a ton of different ways. There’s definitely a meta but it is so much more forgiving than so many other games in the genre (shooter looter or rpg looter in general). Plus, skins are loot
Unfortunately Borderlands 3 had the problem I feared that it would and that is weak gunplay. At least for me it just didn't click. I am enjoying Fallen Order though despite it being an EA game. Now I'm in wait mode for I guess Cyberpunk and Last of Us part 2. I can't think of anything between now and then but probably forgetting something.
things i liked about the season: 1. vex offensive was enjoyable. standard, but enjoyable. i disnt expect it to be anything except a new boss, so not terribly disappointed there. 2. armor 2.0 is substantially better than what we had previously even if its still not perfect 3. momentum control 4. cross save 5. dungeon 6. story was good but short. it progressed the overall story of destiny for the first time since ever. 7. the moon is back 8. vex invasions 9. dripfeed 10. artifact 11. d1 crucible maps returning things i didnt like: 1. the sandbox is pretty weird 2. ikora didnt finish the portal 3. no wish 15 4. no solar related artifact stuff things i dont care about: 1. reskins 2. eververse things i want to see from upcoming seasons: 1. trials 2. srl 3. big team battle 4. class system rework 5. affinity rework 6. kinetic fusion rifle
My problem with Eververse is they put all the cool shit in there. So when you see someone with a unique look you aren't impressed they beat some difficult activity like in D1, you just know they spent money for it. Other than that I mostly agree with you. We haven't had any surprises at all this season which is disappointing. We knew about essentially every exotic and legendary gear before Shadowkeep even released.
Man I enjoy playing BL3 so much. As far as being in the thick of a mob I feel like it’s a more fun than Destiny. It certainly doesn’t hold a candle to the gunplay mechanics of Destiny but outside of COD nothing comes close to Destiny in that regard. I would put BL3 in the tier just below tho
I honestly probably just need to give it another go. I just couldn't power through the beginning. But it also felt like a game stuck in the past in a lot of ways. It almost felt too much like BL2. Not saying it needed to be a games as service but it could have learned a few things from those games. And then it was half broken at launch so that didn't help and the character I started with was completely bugged so it just turned me off.
Wow expansions bring whole new continents and new content out of the gate with 2-3 big content patches over the course of the expansion. The quality of the content is hit or miss. You also have to pay a monthly subscription (on top of buying the xpac) and they also have their own version of the eververse with no bright dust equivalent.
As would I. I've said many times they should go the route subscription route but I know that is difficult to pull off these days. And Bungie could never keep up with the amount of content required for such a thing.
Can we still get lunas howl? All I’ve found with google is that it’s an old pursuit. I can’t find the quest for it.
Yes. You likely already have it in your inventory. I think you gotta play 10 comp matches to start it then like 200 hand cannon kills in comp
I don't think that's unpopular at all. In fact I think many people would happily sign up for that sort of deal provided we were getting that level of content. Unfortunately Bungie cried that Year 2 was too difficult for the staff (and that was with Activision's support too) so we're never getting anything close to that.
you'd think that with subs theyd be qable to hire more staff but this is the gaming industry and that wouldnt happen.
Agree 100%. I read recently that Bungie has over 2700 employees now. Granted not all of those are developers and I know games like this are a tremendous undertaking but we're not talking about some small indie studio. They absolutely have the resources and revenues to create far more content with far greater depth.
Daily. How long do season's last? Only thing I feel like grinding for is Izanagi's and 21%, but Gambit will take forever. Saw there's an infamy boost weekend coming up. On Shattered Throne part of the quest for Iza.
I think the undying season has two weeks left but I assume that will just end the vex offensive content and/or triumphs/titles. Idk I’m new.
Two weeks left this season. Typically 3 months long. I think Shattered Throne is the last part of Izanagi. Let me know if you need a hand running it.
Bungie knows how to make a fucking trailer. I'm cautiously optimistic. But no mention of Trials? If ever there was a time to bring it back it would be this season with Osiris coming back. That and it's been gone for a god damn year +.
Curse of Osiris 2.0? Bold choice to double down on what's widely panned as the worst DLC of the game. No raid. No raid lair. No dungeon. Can't wait.
I’ll be on here and there during the week but I’ll be on with another player Fri night, sat and sun if anyone wants to raid
I'd rather them do 2 raids a year and make them full length then do 3-4 and 3 of then be raid lairs. Most of the lairs have been pretty weak.
We got 2 on top of Leviathan during year 1 and 2 more on top of Last Wish during Forsaken. I wasn't expecting another so quickly after GoS released (especially since they pushed the Shadowkeep release back a month) but I will absolutely be disappointed if we don't get something similar for year 3.
This is fair and an opinion that many people share. I will say that they did a much better job with this in year 2. Scourge and Crown feel much less "lair" like than Eater and Spire.
I would agree with that but Crown being back on the Leviathan again did not make me happy even with the different look and feel. Overall I think this year's content is going to be quite different from last year's pass. I'm just hoping to be surprised and they reveal Trials today.
that's it? No raid, no strike, no Trials. Just a couple of shitty story missions, the 15th iteration Prison of Elders/Court of Oryx/Blind Well/generic 6 man activity and a Crucible map from D1. If it wasn't so hilariously bad it'd be infuriating. Somehow they managed to make something that doesn't even seem worth $10.
So the slow drip of content just means another menagerie activity? They must be holding a lot back, right? RIGHT?!
Yeah, I went in with low expectations and still find myself incredibly disappointed. Impressive Bungie. Things have definitely changed since the split from Activision. They have somehow got worse.
FAR worse. Everyone shit on Activision for being the money hungry devil that prevented Bungie from "fixing" the game and it's literally been the exact opposite since they split. It's been less and less content and more of the shit teased is now behind the Eververse paywall than ever before. They had to disable the comments on their streams because they were (rightfully) getting crucified for this joke of an effort.
I thought money would be an issue without Activision, but thought they'd have full creative control and get to do/make what they wanted. They need that Activision money back. Should scrap Destiny and go back to Halo.
