The gameplay loop is a worse version of obelisks, with a smaller loot pool that they intentionally ruined the perk pool on. I’m definitely in the running for biggest destiny Stan on the board but after a couple hours with it yesterday I’m leaning towards pretty much sitting out this season which would be a first for me in the history of the franchise. I would have never thought the split from Activision would be a bad thing but that is looking pretty undeniable at this point.
and now, a review by the actual biggest destiny stan on the board. the sandbox is improved trials is back, and thats good obelisks are back, and thats good the loot pool is marginally smaller than last season but its also better the activity is what non raid pve activities have been no experience yet with super lost sectors and most importantly the quest screen is very sexy so in conclusion, its more destiny. if you like destiny, play it. if you dont, shut the fuck up and go play anthem
destiny is never going to be more than what it always has been. theres no revolutionary anything coming from a three year old game at the end of a generation. either accept that and enjoy the game or move the fuck on
Lol if you want to compare hours feel free but nonetheless I will respond point by point. 1. It’s really too early to say whether the sandbox is improved or not. 2. We have no idea if trials will be effectively implemented or not since it hasn’t, you know, happened yet. 3. Obelisks were... fine. Bringing them back as the core pve game mode just shittier for a second season in a row is not. 4. The loot pool is objectively not better. They intentionally fucked up the perk pool to prevent god rolls. Less (both quality and quantity) loot in a loot shooter is, again, objectively bad. I love destiny and can assure you I’ve played a shitload more of it than you by whatever metric you want to use but this isn’t just more destiny, it’s worse Destiny. Yeah the quest screen looks pretty good.
im sure you do have more hours because i have no problem not playing when i dont like the state of the game (D2Y1, HoW, etc) whether trials is good or not doesnt really impact me because i wont participate either way, but assuming its literally a copy/paste of old trials it cant be bad the loot pool, well, i'll be honest i havent looked too closely at it, but last seasons pool was 20% pulse rifles, so it would have to be impressively bad to be worse i like the obelisk style progression a lot and dont mind them using it each season as long as the associated mods are worth getting. the activity itself. idk, would it be nice to get something new and exciting, yeah, but ive yet to see anyone even pitch an idea for something different. except me when i say SRL or BTB. at the end of the day its going to be light mechanics and shooting guns. seems like it will alternate between patrol matchmaking and standalone matchmaking, which is fine, neither really offends me. i know i had another point but i dont remember it currently
destiny's biggest problem is osiris. dude is old and delusional. someone like that should not have full access to all timelines.
I didn’t think the game could get any more boring than Season of Undying, but then we got Dawn. I assumed that had to be rock bottom but here we are, somehow, inexplicably shittier than ever before. It’s staggeringly bad across the board in all facets. The conversation we should now be having is whether or not Luke Smith needs to be removed and new leadership brought in because it’s that bad and that far off course.
I'm not loving it this season. Them cutting pinnacle/rituals weapons is a big mistake. Guess i have no reason to ever play Gambit or strikes again. The activity is about what I expected. Not good, not bad. Just more of the same. The loot looks cool but the perk pool they gave it is pretty lackluster so I doubt I farm for any of them to be honest. I got a good rolled Dire Promise already so my loot chase for the season is pretty much done. The loot pool for Trials is pretty pathetic and kind of kills my enthusiasm for that mode. I'll still play some PvP from time to time and do the exotic quests when they come out. Outside of that I don't have much motivation to play. There really is no aspirational loot at all and only trials for aspirational content. And them resetting stats on emblems is a really shitty thing to do.
i guess the difference here is i dont expect more so im never disappointed. also, swords are really great now
No ritual weapons, less weapons from the new event (shitty ones at that). They don't get credit for Trials. It's not part of the season and was only gone because if their fuck up. It was gone for a year and a half because they were reinventing it and all they did was bring it back like it was in D1. And like I said, it's got a shit loot pool.
I'm talking about actually new. Not returning nonsense. There's definitely less new weapons this season. And the rolls they can get are mostly trash.

I was on earlier. I think the severs are fine. Nobody on Reddit is saying anything and they would be considering trials is back today.

I think as far as how it plays people are enjoying it. But people are disappointed that there are no adept weapons and with the way the loot is dispersed. Seems to be on a set rotation each weekend.
Trials is an ultra competitive and fun game mode and really fun to watch. It’s crazy that they shelved it for so long. The trials community in a lot of ways lives on its own island and they were just left behind
I haven't taken a crack yet because I don't have a fireteam and definitely not high enough level yet. It's funny how much less sweaty quickplay is this weekend. I'm glad to have it back. Adept weapons don't matter to me anyway because I'm not good enough to get them. I do think not having a full suite of weapons off the bat is weak as fuck though.
wish theyd bring back trials of the nine weapons in some capacity. even as regular crucible drops. id love current version of that auto rifle
Yeah, crucible could use some loot updates. That's a good idea. I want a new version of Darkest Before and the HC. I think it was called Judge.
