Do we teach our LB (and whole secondary it seems) to just stand there and run to a guy after he catches it instead of cover someone?
Also wouldn't be a lions v packers game without a questionable call going GB way. But at least we still scored. GB just going to score here anyway so it doesn't really matter
We currently have the 11th pick. We can drop as low as 4th if we moss out and get a lot of luck. I would guess we end up around 7.
Of the potential retread guys, this would be my favorite. His resume suggests he should have other options that would be better than us, though.
Assuming going back to the Texans is off the table for him, which of the other openings is that much better than the Lions? Feel like the opinion of Stafford is much higher outside of Detroit than we as fans think it is.
Depends on what you're looking for. Detroit, Atlanta and Jacksonville all have their good/bad stuff. Birkett did have something last week about how some of the retread candidates (Smith, John Dorsey, Jerry Reese and one other guy whose name I'm forgetting) have an issue if Wood is still considered the Team President, and that the league is kind of pushing for them to change his position/title to make it look better for candidates. EDIT: the fourth guy was Ray Farmer
Birkett says in the story the preference is for one of the GM or HC to have previous experience. I think it’ll be a guy like Smith with Saleh.
Not really sure what a lot of that stuff means, but I think the new info from that piece is that Accorsi isn't involved. Last week Birkett wrote that they were leaning heavily on him again as a trusted advisor. Now he says he's not involved. Given that several candidates have ties to him, I think that's a good thing.
So Spielman is the buffer the league wants. I’m fine with that. Plus he is done as an announcer, so win win.
Seems so simple. Not sure how this hasn't happened yet. Especially with him possibly going into the HOF next summer. I'm sure we'll continue to screw it up, though.
I'm not entirely sure what Spielman will be doing whenever the GM/coach are hired, but I think it's a really good move if they use him right. Give him a seat at the table as a voice to bounce ideas off of for the GM, while also having him replace Wood as the face of the org when it comes to the community. Wood can handle the business affairs and the money. That's fine. But no one wants to hear him talk or be anywhere around the football aspect of it. If Sheila doesn't want to be a higher profile owner, make Spielman the voice instead of Wood. Hollis is okay on that committee as far as his hiring experience, even if we should probably keep that one a little quiet. I like Graves on that committee a lot. At the very least it means we're going to consider everyone, given his association with the Fritz Pollard Alliance. Barry being on that committee is kind of funny and basically just a PR thing to remind fans he exists.
Reminds me of the 2003 tigers, yea we know we suck but look at all these players you used to like, they are back in management.
I wonder if this puts George Patton in play. He’s been pretty leery of leaving the Vikings but with Rick’s bro now involved, maybe the familiarity helps?
Has Chris ever tried to drown Rick as an adult? That would let us know whether Chris is truly fit for this job.
I'm not sure there's a big enough room to hold all the football guy cliche talk from a Spielman/Riddick combo. They kind of seem like the same person.
This GM search appears to be following the Avila plan of "interview all the people". Seems pretty likely we'll get to around 10 people interviewed by the end of it.
