He’s going to do an individual workout in April, but this is not great for him. From what I’ve seen, he’s the best fit for what we want to do. Gonzalez is a freak athlete but he’s just not physical like Witherspoon. Also, Witherspoon is cocky as hell and Gonzalez seems really reserved. I want the cockiest player possible at corner. It’s a must.
As far as FA goes, if we are going to splurge anywhere, it should be on Tremaine Edmunds because of his age. If we go for the best bargain, David Long is my guy, though the reason he’d be a bargain is his injury history. Truly great player when healthy though. I still want Wagner a lot but he’s probably going to cost near what Edmunds gets and at that point I’d defer to the younger player.
I think the actual cost for Wagner and David ends up being less than what Long gets, regardless of what the reported numbers say when the deal is announced. Wagner got a reported 5/$75M from LAR last year that turned out to basically be 1/$10M. I'm guessing he and David will get reported 3-4 year deals for $13-15M per, and will end up getting what amounts to $10M or so per for 1-2 years. Sign me up for that.
If that happens, I’m all for that. I think at a minimum we have to add a starter at LB and DB in FA or via trade. Everything else should be about filling out depth.
Plug holes with average free agents on short deals so we can lean BPA in the draft. I don't think our roster is out of the rebuild phase yet.
It does change a thing because one of 5 teams ahead of us who wasn't taking a QB swapped with a team who is. There was definitely a shot if Chicago only dropped to 4 that Arizona, Chicago and Seattle picked Tyree, Carter and Anderson
Panthers - QB Texans - QB Cardinals - non QB Colts - QB Seahawks - non QB Maybe it helps us trade down for a team that wants Levis.
Someone is going to trade up with the Cardinals to grab a qb before the Colts or with Seattle to get ahead of the Raiders. QBs go in 4 of the top 5 picks
I think that would have definitely been the case under Caldwell and Quinn/Patricia. I don't think that's as likely under Holmes/Campbell.
I don't think there's any, but I also don't think there's as much "we must draft only players who were team captains" stuff like Caldwell and Patricia were about.
Idk about that. Last draft they literally mentioned how many captains they picked. https://thedenforum.com/t/who-is-a-brad-holmes-draft-pick-diving-into-brads-pick-history/20837 'almost every player the Lions drafted in 2022 was a team leader or captain in the locker room. Brad Holmes is serious when he says culture is more important than scheme.'
Everyone says that, though. I'm not saying that they're going to become the Bengals from the Marvin Lewis era. I guess my thing with Carter is we're not really sure what his character issues are yet. I think there's a long way over the next 7 weeks before we just assume that everyone is going to pass on him because of this.
I have no clue if this will truly occur or not but my brother has a random source on this in Athens. He’s been told that they are going to drop everything against Carter. No idea the validity of this but my brother brought it up to me out of the blue yesterday
Wouldn't be surprising. By all accounts, the police weren't going to charge him with anything until the investigative stuff in the media came out saying Carter was involved in that capacity and then suddenly he was charged with two misdemeanors that same day. Not saying it's right or wrong, but the police in Athens were pretty clearly never planning on doing anything there.
What’s the plan if they don’t take a QB at 6? I’m not smart enough to say they must use that pick on a QB but how do they upgrade from Goff if not? Goff is an anchor on a team contending for a Super Bowl. Can’t convince me otherwise
Some FA I would content with exploring at every position QB: Bridgewater RB: J. Williams, D. Harris WR: Chark, Slayton, Lazard TE: Hurst, Hooper OT: meh OG: Hernandez (he’s my biggest want in FA on offense), Glasgow Edge: Okoronkwo, Key iDL: Ioannidis, G. Gaines, LB: Wagner, Edmunds, Long, Davis DB: Bradberry, I. Oliver, Sutton S: J. Ward We probably need to sign 1-2 DB while also drafting another 1-2. That’s why I’m fine giving up a mid round pick for Slay. I’d send everyone in that DB room packing but Jacobs. Okudah I’d at least let try himself out at safety before I send him to the XFL.
Dean is the guy I want least. He’s going to get a huge payday and he wasn’t even Tampa’s #1. He also got benched late into the season. He seems destined to bust to me.
"A third-round pick by the Buccaneers in 2019, Dean quietly has emerged as one of the NFL’s better young cornerbacks, with seven interceptions and 41 passes defensed in 57 career games (38 starts). Per PFF, Dean allowed a 50 percent completion rate (fourth among CBs with at least 50 targets) and 6.1 yards per target (T-10th) in primary coverage last season, with a forced incompletion rate of 16.2 percent (T-12th).” Doesn't seem terrible to me...
