You have the ball at the 50 and 1:44 to play and 3 TOs. A TD wins it. Why are you avoiding running more plays so you can play for a tying FG and hoping for OT luck? You're not getting a better chance to win the game in OT than you have right there.
I just don't get it from the coach who has no fear of calling a fake punt on his own 17. And now they get the ball first and you're praying we can get a stop.
It would have been basically first and goal from the 15 with 20 seconds left. Seattle was dropping everyone back. It could have worked.
I’ve seen it hypothesized that Glenn just runs too much complex shit and I tend to agree. It makes no sense.
This defense is not a defense of a legit title contender. We could win this division because it's trash, but we aren't real contenders
Hutchinson didn't do anything all day, but McNeil got all this publicity all offseason and part of the reason Hutchinson does nothing is he's rushing upfield and our interior DL is at the LOS, which allows Smith and Mahomes to just easily climb the pocket and makes plays. Someone on the interior needs to show up with some pass rush. The only interior rush we've gotten through two games is when Hutchinson was inside at KC.
I don’t think anyone believes this team is a title contender. Just win the division and continue to add talent to the roster.
Paschal is a big loss. I also think Houston being turned into an OLB was dumb. He’s hurt now, but your DC should be smart enough to realize the kid can do one thing really well. Don’t make him into something he’s not to fit your scheme.
Interior pass rush you say. Like maybe a Jalen Carter instead of Gibbs who is struggling to add much to our offense?
Houston has mainly been a pass rusher. Playing him at OLB is just a way to get him on the field before third down, IMO. He's playing the same spot as Harris. Obviously he got caught in coverage the one time, but I don't think it's a mistake to put him there. It's his only way on the field outside of obvious pass situations at his size.
Rest of the division lost too but man that was so frustrating. Pathetic not to tee off on Seattle's backup tackles.
Yep, I get Aidan doesn't have a ton of help, but fact he went invisible against two backups isn't a great sign he's going to be elite and more than a high motor guy who plays very well at times. Trade for Chase Young (and Mike Evans)
I have no idea what we do in the short term if Montgomery is out for an extended period of time. Reynolds is terrible and cannot be given any significant amount of work. I mentioned earlier that I assume we trade for Cam Akers. He’s really bad but he’s better than Reynolds. He was also inactivated today so he could be traded. I would think that could happen quickly if it’s the route Holmes goes. The issues on D are more concerning. Last week feels more and more like a fluke when you see how KC once again struggled to score points. I really think Glenn is the biggest issue with the D right now and he’s untouchable. He’s going to have to figure out a way to simplify things or else we are going to be relying on Goff to win shootouts all season long.
I don't know how to judge DCs, but I don't think this is the version of Glenn from last year when we were blitzing non-stop and asking players to cover man-to-man all game. I don't think we blitzed much today. Maybe the game plan sucked, but I thought our players just played like shit today. We tackled poorly. Got no pass rush from anyone. And got abused by pretty much everyone in match-ups when we went there. I'd like to see Rodriguez not play LB and Campbell play more because he feels like he gets exposed less in coverage match-ups on the inside, at least.
Glenn’s lack of in game adjustments has been a staple of his run here though. Feels like today he should have blitzed more. I agree that getting Campbell more run is no brainer. I would also dress Buggs and Martin. Maybe one of them can help push the pocket even a little bit.
Today was annoying and I’m frustrated but ultimately I still think this is 9/10 win team and that we should win the North. These are games that hopefully give the organization pause when considering Goff’s future, though. He’s good here but he won’t ever be great.
Lastly, it’s a ridiculous notion but getting Branch reps at outside corner might be a necessity. I can’t imagine we are going to be any worse if we have Sutton/Branch outside, CJGJ inside and Joseph and Walker at safety.
And that's my annoyance at the Goff plays we discussed earlier. I know it doesn't work like this because games change when you just erase scores in the middle of them, but this is the third game since the last start of last year where you can say the difference in the score between a win or loss is Goff throwing a terrible pick six (today, Philly and Seattle last year). And he's generally done an amazing job of avoiding turnovers in his most recent stretch and everyone has seen the stats, but the ones he's thrown have been killers.
How is that Gibbs route the problem on the INT? Unless he was supposed to run a stop route, what was Gibbs supposed to do there besides "get open for a lot of yards if his QB throws it accurately?
If there was a positive today it’s that LaPorta is really fucking good. Rookie TE’s rarely make the impact he is making.
The villains went all in on winning the division this year and nothing more. So we're still in good shape.
