Looks like another nickelback which means he will suffer a career threatening injury in a year or two.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet Lions had some interest before their 1st round pick RT @Jeff_McLane: Asked if he expected Evan Mathis to be back, Chip Kelly said ask Evan.
I'd say this is a solid B. Prefer Coleman to Abdullah, was a little disappointed with what we received by trading down, and wish we hadn't taken a FB. But at least we're addressing some needs. Do we have another pick? I'd love to get Tre McBride.
why not take Collins with this last pick? What do you have to lose? He gets arrest you cut him (like you will probably end up doing with your 7th rounder anyways).
Corey Robinson from South Carolina is actually an interesting pick. OT some people had as a potential 3rd rounder.
Will be interesting to see how this class ends up. Seems like this is a class where it will be disappointing if there isn't a big impact, because we didn't go for a ton of upside. Definitely a Mayhew change up draft. 0 WRs, but added 2 CBs and 3 OLs. I'm sure most places will grade this as something between a B and a C. Some might be harsher based on Tomlinson being considered a reach.
Mayhew says he wants four starters out of every draft, but we're only looking at two guys who will likely start the opener: Tomlinson and Burton. I guess if you want to cheat, you could say that Abdullah starts at KR as well. Still, I liked the draft for what it was. It seems we took guys who actually give a fuck which is nice.
I expect Abdullah to play enough that he's more of a 1b than a 2 at RB. Wouldn't shock if Carter or Diggs ended up being 5th DB, either, which would make either of them starter-ish. I could see all the guys in the first five rounds starting at some point in their careers if things work out. Not sure anyone outside of Tomlinson is ever more than average at their positions as a starter, but there's value in being decent, as well.
Justin Rogers @Justin_Rogers Rutgers LB Kevin Snyder is the first UDFA signing with Detroit per @dduggan21.
The next Luke Staley Michael Gehlken@UTgehlken South Dakota State RB Zach Zenner is signing with Lions. Chargers were reported elsewhere. Not an option for him. Team set at RB.
Kind of weird that reports have us signing 2 QBs. Neither of them are going to make the team, but it sounds like Brandon Bridge might have Stafford-like arm strength with no clue where it's going. I'm assuming he's being brought in to make Kellen Moore feel as inadequate as possible.
Way too early 53 man roster prediction: QB (3) - Matthew Stafford, Kellen Moore, Dan Orlovsky RB (5) - Joique Bell, Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, George Winn, Michael Burton (FB) WR (5) - Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Corey Fuller, TJ Jones, Ryan Broyles TE (3) - Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew, Joseph Fauria T (5) - Riley Reiff, LaAdrian Waddle, Cornelius Lucas, Michael Williams, Corey Robinson G/C (4) - Larry Warford, Laken Tomlinson, Travis Swanson, Manny Ramirez, DT (4) - Haloti Ngata, Tyrunn Walker, Caraun Reid, Gabe Wright DE (5) - Ziggy Ansah, Jason Jones, Larry Webster, Devin Taylor, Darryl Tapp LB (6) - Deandre Levy, Stephen Tulloch, Kyle Van Noy, Tahir Whitehead, Julian Stanford, Josh Bynes CB (6) - Darius Slay, Rashean Mathis, Nevin Lawson, Bill Bentley, Alex Carter, Quandre Diggs S (4) - Glover Quin, James Ihedigbo, Isa Abdul-Quddus, Don Carey ST (3) - Matt Prater, Sam Martin, Don Muhlbach We'll add a few more vets who could make it as reserve/special teams guys at different spots, but it seems like you could probably take 45-47 of these to the bank already.
thought you cpuldnt trade comp picks? but the fact we were getting one made the comfortable enough to pull the triger ...
It's probably just puff piece stuff during camp, but Twentyman has had articles about Caraun Reid, Larry Webster and Devin Taylor in the last couple days with some quotes from the coaches saying they like them. Reid has apparently put on a decent amount of weight (I think he's been working out with Suh) and seems like he'll enter camp at least strongly in the mix for snaps next to Ngata. Also, we apparently met with DT Mike Patterson the other day. Not sure if we sign him, or if he would make the team if we did.
Had a puff piece about Ebron, too. He's shaved his mohawk, so the years of dropping the football should be behind him.

Thank god. Let's just hope he doesn't wear a backwards hat or get any tattoos, and all-pro here he comes!
I was going to make a joke about the Ford family signing guy named Levy to a big contract related to Henry's anti-semitism, but that led me down a path of reconciling that the team owned by William Clay Ford for a time employed a player named Willie Clay, which I found interesting. I'm going to get fired.
Great deal for the Lions Details on that 4-year extension for #LionsLB DeAndre Levy: Its worth $33.72M ($8.43M per year). $20M in guarantees.
I'd be interested to know if there's an article out there that shows the difference in money spent on a 4-3 d vs 3-4. the #s are so wide between Levy and Justin Houston, even though they are both studs as OLBs. Guess 4-3 ends and DTs get paid more in 4-3 systems, so probably evens out. Wonder if there's some analysis available though ...
