The Lions fan base is going to hate Goff and I imagine he'll hate Detroit. Hopefully we still take a QB at 7, but I like the deal anyway.
Cap people Can we flip Goff without a cap hit since LA eating the dead cap or would we get a dead cap hit too?
Other teams offered the Lions '21 first-rounders for Matthew Stafford. Why is the Rams' haul so much greater? Detroit agreed to take on Jared Goff's contract, adding an NBA element to this trade. Goff has $43M fully guaranteed (and $54.3M total) the next 2 years with NO offsets.
I would have been happy with a 1st and a 3rd. Lions basically got an additional 1st for taking Goff. Who knows, Goff could be dealt down the road for additional picks.
Only potential negative I see is if our new GM, who drafted Goff, sees him as our future QB and this stops us drafting one
we are trading Goff, #7, and a 2022, 2023 first rounder for Watson and he’s waving his no trade clause because he’s all in on Detroit vs Everybody
This trade is really good to line up with a Lance draft pick 2021 draft take Lance 2021 and 2022 suck probably with Goff starting and Lance developing. Improve defense with likely top 10 picks both years and extra 1st rd picks 2022 cut Goff for no cap hit, start Lance who now has all those picks surrounding him
might rather us ride one year out with Goff and then draft a QB unless we are in love with whoever is the 4th QB in this draft is *if we don’t trade Goff immediately that is
Um his deep ball accuracy has declined, he looks lost sometimes and makes the dumbest decisions against good teams. Not for a lack of weapons, we’ve had good WR’s 1&2’s. Line hasn’t been the best either was really bad in 19. Plus he fumbles the ball quite often
That’s the thing though. Will we be in a position to draft a good one next year? Next year’s QB class isn’t great, and I’m worried we will win 6-7 games with Goff, and pick in the teens.
I mean Mitch Trubisky has a pro bowl appearance also, I think it’s just more of an aberration as opposed to the expectation for him imo.
He was legit good a few years ago, though. At least, his production was. His yards per completion have dropped more than 2 yards over the last two years. Not sure if he lost confidence, or if the league figured out the McVay offense Goff was running and he's not capable of doing anything that isn't spoon fed for him like it was when McVay was the new hotness around the league. My guess is it's the latter, but if it's the former that would be nice.
Her tweets about this the last couple days read like her source is a team exec who is just pissed Holmes wouldn’t take their deal.
That’s because it is. There’s been shady stuff about her for years basically implying she has traded different things for access/comment.
Basically, McVay has spent his entire coaching career trying to scheme up ways for Cousins and Goff to be effective. Stafford does the things those guys do as well or better than they do, and also has the ability to both make downfield throws and improvise in ways those guys can't.
There was a bunch of noise around her and Alshon Jefferey a few years ago, specifically around a lot of the Carson Wentz locker room stuff a few years ago, I heard Chris Long all but outright say she traded things for access on a podcast a couple of years ago iirc as well.
I'm guessing that stuff isn't true, and is mainly due to her constantly saying she "just got a text from _" whenever she breaks news. No one else does that.
What I think will also help him is a consistent running game, Cam Akers did well the second part of the season.
