QB or trade down. I want pickzzzz.
I think with Goff, they trade down or BPA. Campbell saying the clock doesn’t really start for 2 years tells me that they’re not taking a QB unless they love whoever it is, either they don’t love anyone available this year or they’re certain he’ll still be there at 7. Probably end up trading those future picks to move up next year to be able to pick a franchise QB
On the plus side, this is a terrible roster and there isn't any room to do anything in free agency this offseason, so the likelihood of going 3-13 and drafting in the top 3 next year is very high.
This is a year where QB may be bpa at 7.
Getting caught up on the Goff talk, here is where I am at this point; the team likes Goff as the most realistic option to be competitive the next year or two, but they probably don’t believe he’s truly a franchise QB. That’s why I think all options are on the table in April, including trading up.
Calvin at 36 would be better than any WR we have currently under contract.
Wash was Jacksonville’s DC the last four years
Long time DL coach in TB and Jax before that.
Seth Ryan is Rex's son and a former walk on WR at Clemson (he's only 26 years old). Was on Lynn's staff the last two years in LAC. Maybe that was known to others, but I was unaware before I looked him.
Seems like we might be waiting until after the Super Bowl to interview Antwaan Randle El for the WR coach position. He's been an offensive assistant in TB the last few years. I think that's the only main spot on the staff still open at this point.
Is he handsome? If so, he can be our McVay/LaFleur in four years.
Do foot fetiches run in the family? No kink shaming here.
hes coaching football not handball for a reason
The whole Rams and Stafford situation is sounding more shady by the day. But we got a good enough return I'm not too mad.
But it comes out Stafford didn't want to play in NE, then it came out he didn't want to play for WFT, Car or Ind (or anywhere else really)
Then it came out Stafford and McVay both so happened to be vacationing in Cabo at the same time when trade talks were going down and had dinner together when news broke....
The Cabo thing is the part that annoys me, because it seems pretty clear based on the reports that they were in contact multiple times before the deal broke. Considering the Lions were keeping Stafford in the loop, and thus he knew how far along things were with teams like Carolina and Washington, as well as possibly knowing from McVay what the Rams' interest level was, that puts stuff in play that shouldn't be (like McVay telling Stafford to play hard ball about going to CAR or WFT because LAR was interested, or Stafford passing info to McVay about offers and who they had to beat, etc.).
Alternatively, maybe Stafford got us a better deal out of the Rams than anybody else was offering in terms of both draft picks and a serviceable QB for 2021-2022 because he worked the shit out of McVeigh.
And Orlovsky tweeted Friday it would be a big news day. (He was off by a day). Stafford probably told him what was happening.
Speaking of Orlovsky, Stafford needs to tell that guy to shut the fuck up because he's setting expectations even higher than the trade is by talking about him putting up Rodgers numbers and such. I get stumping for your buddy, but give the guy a chance.
I’m convinced we will win a SB
“I went to freaking Mobil down the street to go get some Copenhagen earlier, and they didn’t have it,” Campbell told MLive on Sunday. “Then he was like, ‘Who are you?’ I said, ‘Well, I’m Dan.’ And he’s like, ‘Do you play for the Lions?’ I said, ‘Well, no, but I’m a part of them.’
“He goes, ‘Who are you?’ So I told him I’m the head coach, and he’s like, ‘You’re the head coach?’”
And then, you guessed it.
“Then he wanted to know about why we let (Matthew) Stafford go,” Campbell continued. “(He’s like), ‘What the heck are you guys doing?’ And then he proceeded to tell me about how we ruined Barry Sanders, among others. He did tell me he’d have fresh tobacco by tonight or tomorrow, but he wanted to make sure he got his point across. And listen, I got it man.”
Nothing worse than going to a gas station and your brand isn't there.
Why is he going to a fucking gas station, and not a party/liquor store?
Because you buy chew at the gas station. Liquor stores have shit for selection.
He fucked up not going to Speedway. Those fuckers have it all.
I was in line behind a dude at Speedway like 5 months ago and they indeed did not have whatever random dip he wanted. He was also driving an RV and clearly from a long way away.
Spoken like a man who has never visited Cox’s Spirit Shoppe in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
7-Eleven bought Speedway so they will be going away in the next couple of months
I agree with this. It is a little shady business that Stafford & McVay were in Cabo together. But, in the end, McVay called Stan Kroenke and made them up the offer. It ultimately benefits the Lions. And if Stafford ends up where he wants, I'm good with that too. He certainly put in his time in Detroit and gave them many chances to build something.
Just need to get him firing bombs to Cephus to fix what ails him.
All the teams rumored to be calling about Wentz and his contract makes me think the narrative that we only got an extra 1st to take Goff isn't true.
We took Goff to be QB1. Now we get him some weapons
Broncos offered 7th pick Drew lock for Stafford
9th pick. And pretty much all the Denver people I've read have said they didn't. Dan Patrick saying they did means nothing.
I'd rather pay Jared Goff $25M to QB my NFL team than pay Drew Lock a nickel.
It does sound pretty clear that we weren't doing a Denver trade without Lock being in it, which seems really dumb to me. Denver is going to value him somewhat highly no matter what, and having Drew Lock doesn't do a damn thing for you long term. All it does is eat into the value you can otherwise get.
Several Denver writers made it sound like we weren't even really asking for #9, and were trying get Jeudy or some other young players instead.
Watching us get our asses kicked every week is bad enough...watching us get our asses kicked while our QB is dancing to stadium music would be too much.
I've learned this Fall that the exact opposite of Dan Patrick's "sources" is usually what you should look for.
I don't ever remember him being like this with "sources". And now he seems to do it all the time. He's doing it again today about the Wentz rumors. It makes him look like the local TV idiots who think they're going to break news and beat the Schefters of the world on stories.
Goff gets shit on a lot for his drop in play and I don't think he's our future. But he's definitely still a nfl starting qb and potentially imo a top 15-20 starting qb. He's overpaid and surely I want to dump that contract in 2 years, but he's still better than most qb on the market. I want nothing to do with lock
Yeah, until Dan Campbell choke slams Lock straight to hell
Calvin is a HOFer
Sheila’s next move is to repair that relationship ASAP (should have been done years ago)
it’s absolutely insane how Calvin only had 5 TD that season
Sheila seems to have too much common sense in her to run the Lions.
