We could use some depth, but I don't think you take that here. Vaitai was good last year, and his contract isn't that bad at the moment. He's also pretty close with Sewell dating back to before Sewell got here and that seems like a good thing.
I agree, but I'm thinking of his replacement in 2023 to save $8M in cap space. The rest of the line is set.
Looks like Carolina traded up for Corral. If you take Howell, whatever. I’m not going to complain but we should probably just take an LB.
We're at the point where it doesn't really matter what we think of Howell. If the Lions like Howell at all, it's almost malpractice to pass on him for a third or fourth tier player at another position. The upside of having Howell on the roster for a year and seeing if he has anything to work with going forward is so absurdly higher than literally any other player they could take. If they think Howell sucks, pick someone else. That's fine. But to me there's not a debate. He's either not in the conversation or he's the pick.
Looks like 80 picks until their next pick after this. Likely last chance to take a guy that could be a meaningful contributor
PFF had him rated in 70s so seems good value, but his bottom line section on there is kind of scary when it starts "his inability to see the field at Illinois is concerning"
That sentence is confusing, it wasn't about his vision of the field, it was about how he couldn't get on the field his first 3 years at an awful Illinois team. Basically only played his senior year
I wouldn’t be shocked if Glenn and Pleasant wanted Joseph because of his ball skills. It’s something we lack at safety for sure. I don’t know that he starts over Elliot initially but I bet he gets on the field on pass downs.
I meant he won't be trusted to play on the Lions. Like he wasn't on Illinois. Also, I just saw Kyle Brandt for the first time. Until now I thought he was late 20s. He's 43. I'm pretty drunk, so just bear with me.
Joseph just said he’s had multiple meetings with the Lions leading up to the Draft. They very well might have preferred Cross, but I doubt this was a panic pick.
I'm comparing the Lions draft room to me during my fantasy baseball draft, so I'm probably wrong. Although with Bob Quinn I was usually right. Hopefully Joseph is solid.
Joseph was a ballhawk this year. Played really well. Just really odd he got no time there before that
I’m not even going to concern myself with prospects for tomorrow because of how late our picks are. I hope we avoid trading next years picks to get another pick this year, though. Take Heyward at some point tomorrow. That’s my only ask.
Joseph also turned 21 at the end of his senior season and moved from DB to WR back to DB during his career after the coaching change. No clue if he'll be good, but this isn't Will Harris in the 3rd round when everyone knew he sucked, either.
The Lions drafted likely starters in 2023 at DE, DE, WR and hopefully S. Targeting QB and LB early next year.
The Ravens have six 4th round picks tomorrow. I predict we will trade a next year's 4 for one of them.
Wouldn’t mind drafting Steuber today since he can play RG and RT, the latter probably is a stretch in the NFL but the versatility is there. Same reason o think Heyward is a good pick. Can play TE/FB.
Would be really curious what the medical evals are on Damone Clark. He played for us at the Senior Bowl and allegedly did well before having spinal fusion surgery a month ago. I've read that he's expected to make a full recovery and be ready for 2023, but spinal fusion surgery for a LB seems bad.
I'm guessing OL and TE with the next two picks. Drafting Salyer would be both hilarious and annoying, but he's also probably the perfect OL for us from a depth standpoint given his versatility.
Clarke went to the Cowboys right before us. We took James Mitchell, VT TE. Coming off a torn ACL. He’s athletic. Seems like a good pick to add depth to the position.
