Okay with Abdullah pick. I know every B1G poster itt was nervous as shit every time he touched the ball. Still just wish they would have went with Brown in the 1st
The Michigan difference? Harbaugh effect? Seriously, I think they made some good picks in the past and have a serious smartest man in the room thing going on.
Overall, seems like a decent draft so far. None of these picks wow me, but I'm not mad about any of them, either. Curious to see if they have Abdullah return kicks. If they don't, that pick loses a bit with me unless he's the starting RB and getting 15+ carries per game. Definitely seems like they're drafting like a team that thinks it's close and is trying to win now. The upside isn't really there with any of those three guys. That's not the worst thing in the world and I'm not complaining. Could also just be a case of this draft not having a ton of upside in it and they're just taking guys they're comfortable with.
How would people feel about dealing a next year's 3 to move into round 4? We're guaranteed a comp pick in rd 3 next year for Suh, and will get either a 4 or 5 for Fairley. We also added a 5 in the Denver deal. I think there's at least a chance we make that move, especially with some of the DTs available. I wouldn't make that kind of deal for the sake of doing it, but I'd be really happy with it for any of the following names: Grady Jarrett Michael Bennett Marcus Hardison Trey Flowers Any of the glut of safeties they might like best I also think we take a FB with one of the last picks. People have been putting us with Jalston Fowler for a while, and we might have to take him in the 5th if we want him (if he even makes it that far). Seems like at least 2-3 other draftable guys at the position.
Both Hundley and Petty would be good value picks at this point, and for the 1000th time, I wish we'd draft/sign a back up that could at least in theory press Stafford when he plays like an asshole.
I'd move up to take the right DT. This draft is fine, although I think Abdullah will end up in bin of 1st/2nd round Mayhew skill position busts.
Everyone is in love with Grady Jarrett but I don't know shit about him. Any reason we took Wright over Jarrett in particular?
I can't pretend to know anything about DT film, but based on the stuff I've read, Jarrett is more of a 4-3 nose who isn't great as a pass rusher, while Wright is more of a 4-3 DT with pass rushing upside. Not sure if it plays out that way, but that's what I've seen.
I'm wondering how our run D looks this year. It shouldn't be bad as long as Ngata is healthy, but we lost 3 DTs who are all somewhere between "good" and "elite" in terms of stopping the run. Ngata is on that level as a run stuff, but Walker, Reid and Wright all seem more like pass rushers than run stuffers.
Fairley only played 8 games and wasn't really distinct. I think there will be a step back - Suh really stepped up at times - but it will still be solid.
Wonder if we would double up at DT if Michael Bennett is still there. Seems WR or S would be the two most likely positions. Could also go OT if the right guy is there.
Bennett would seem like a serious steal at this point. Would be quite pleased with that, if he's still there that is.
I'm biased....but, Bennett was an absolute monster against Wisconsin/Bama/Oregon. If you want somebody who showed up against the elite....then I don't see why he hasn't been picked. He's a bit undersized...but, he proved just how good he was in those games. I'd love the Lions to take him.
There has to be something seriously wrong with Bennett at this point. Makes no sense why he'd still be there if there isn't.
FB Michael Burton out of .. sigh... Rutgers. I figured we might go the UDFA route there but FB is a big part of the offense.
Yeah, not a fan of a fullback on round 5 when more talented guys were there at other positions. This is the most I've seen Mayhew draft for need in his tenure. Really surprised they'd go FB over a WR at this point.
This was definitely a need draft, I guess. On the plus side, we should get actual contributions from 4-5 guys drafted this year, as opposed to the 1.5 who contributed last year.
Big need, character draft. We replaced two huge Husker assholes with apparently the best human ever associated with that football program.
