Barr is ranked highly by PFF as a rusher, but he didn’t rush much in Minnesota’s scheme.

I have no clue how to feel about signing Barr if it happens. Seems like he could rush the passer reasonably well. He had 23 sacks his last two years at UCLA despite little experience. I have no clue how they can feel great about him in that kind of role, though.

has to be better than paying $17+ million a year for a guy that has never had more than 7.5 sacks in a season and grades below average in every advanced passing rushing metric

Is he still any good? I’m guessing he will end up sucking here.

He needs a quarterback who can regularly hit a small moving target.

I’ll take a one year gamble on Amendola at that salary over giving Humphries big money.

I have no problem from the Lions point of view. Golladay is on the verge of stardom, Jones is a good 2 and Amendola is a reasonably priced slot. Go sign Jared Cook and an OG and draft all defense.

I'm in on Ingram as a second RB. Kerryon's injury history makes that role a pretty important one. I think we should be looking at RBs in rds 2-4.

With Amendola, the only thing that concerns me with that signing is the potential reluctance of this coaching staff to move in a different direction if he's too old to get it done anymore. I think we'll draft a WR in the first four rounds, but last year with Blount makes me concerned that we'll stick with a vet Patricia knows too long.

If the numbers are right, I think most our cap space is gone by now. 16-17 per year on flowers, Amendola was around 4.5 and 9 for Coleman

Think we had 39.5 in cap space, that is about 30.5 eaten up. How much money will rookie contracts eat up? May be able to get another starter in FA.

Looking at Spotrac, they had $41.4M in cap space total, $35.4M after the draft pool.

We could pay significantly less in year one money to allow flexibility. Not the best idea but it’s possible.

I don't know what to think. As stupid as it is, I'm to the point where I'd feel better about some of these moves if they weren't former Patriots. It's ultimately a positive that Patricia has coached these guys and knows them, but at some point when do you open up your scouting department to a page besides "players who played for New England"? Maybe it's irrational after the Marinelli era and all those shitty Tampa 2 guys we signed, but that's where I'm at.

We could also cut some fools (like Riddick) and have more room. Need starters at CB2, TE and RG, need another RB and probably another LB and DE. A couple of those can come in the draft, but they can't expect much from 1st year TEs or corners in general.

How does Flowers change the draft for the Lions? Does he?

I think he opens up 8 to an LB like White or a TE like Hockenson/Fant.

My guess is they definitely sign a vet of at least some significance at TE and RB. All those positions will be in play for the draft.
I think it makes a pass rusher at 8 less likely, although if someone like Josh Allen slips I don't think they would pass on him. Definitely puts Hockenson and Devin White in play at 8, I would think. I'm not a fan of White that high, but Patricia likes LBs.

It would seem like Flowers and Coleman shouldn't apply toward that worry, since they would be highly thought of/sought from many in the NFL. I definitely get it for the roster fillers tho.

Our run D should be top 5 in the NFL with Harrison, Hand, Robinson and Flowers.

I’m open to adding another LB, though I prefer Bush to White. White doesn’t seem like a true MLB to me. Meanwhile Bush would compliment Davis quite well.

If it was just Flowers, I wouldn't say anything. Coleman plays a position where Diggs was really good for 3 years and Agnew is decent when healthy, and we paid him 4/$36m. Amendola is going to be 34 mid-season and plays a spot where rookies have had a big impact over the years. We gave him at least $4.5m this year.

Not saying those guys are bad players. Just seems like we're spending a lot of our money on guys Patricia knows that won't make much of a dent in how good we are this year.

In fairness, I know very little about Coleman and admit I could be unfairly underestimating his abilities.

I won’t lie and say I know a ton about Coleman but he seems like a legit Nickel. I wouldn’t be stunned if Agnew gets more looks on offense, and Diggs is definitely a safety now. That said , I feel similar to you.

Diggs is a safety, but Patricia likes playing 3 safeties and Diggs can fill that slot position from time to time.

can't think of many going on to having big post-Patriot careers, Belchick seems to know when to walk way. Also don't feel like Quinn has shown enough over the past three years to establish the "trust in Quinn" party line.

Also Quinn really likes paying a lot to players that play positions that aren't traditionally paid a lot. Highest contracts ever for a RT and Nickel aren't really good boasting points.
