Stafford has to be more accurate on passes like that. No reason Jones should have to go down and get that and nearly have it called incomplete.
Why in the FUCK would you not kick the FG to take the lead? In what world is Detroit some otherworldly D that you have supreme confidence in? And what about the short game had they seen that made them feel good about their odds?
These freaking coaches. Millions of dollars to just continually make full potato decisions. Detroit OC doing their best Sarkisian impression
That was definitely Stafford. He's in control at the LOS and audibles a ton. Just moronic in that situation.
Honestly, as shitty as they’ve been here and with 2 timeouts, kicking a FG isn’t the worst option. I wouldn’t do it, but wouldn’t fault them. It’s probably better than whatever shit cooter draws up on 4th Of course if you JUST KICKED THE FIELD GOAL TO TAKE THE LEAD THE FIRST TIME THIS LIKELY WOULDNT MATTER.
I hope the coach gets absolutely skewered over that earlier decision not to kick. Those guys get a pass way too often for stupid shit when it happens earlier in games.
Meh. We needed a TD at some point. I'm fine with going for it. The play call was a disaster, but that might have been Stafford on an audible.
Why did you need a TD at some point? A FG puts you in the lead. It had been working the entire game up til that point. Going for it not only risks not taking the lead, but it risks a huge momentum swing. Down by more than 3 I’m all on board with going for it, but to go for it there when up or when a FG gives you the lead is inexcusable. It’s the type of decision that loses games when you looked to be the better team, and it did.
I wouldn't have had a problem with going for it on 4th, had we shown a pulse at all down there. Clearly we had not.
Because at that moment, I'm okay with taking that risk knowing the consequences if you don't make it. I get your argument and I'm not discounting it, but I don't find that decision to be inexcusable. The play call, on the other hand, was inexcusable when it doesn't work.
I agree with you about the play call, and I normally applaud aggressiveness, but from a purely mathematical perspective, that decision lowers your odds of winning before the play is even run. These guys get paid too much money to make decisions that lower the odds of winning. It happens all the time, every week and the media just lets it go because a lot of it is “conventional” so all the old coaches ESPN employs have no issues with it. I’m ready for these guys to start getting heat for these decisions so they’ll quit doing it. The games will be better when they do.
Caldwell has a well earned rep for being very conservative. He's changed some of that in recent years. 2 years ago, he kicks that FG every time. I don't really have a an opinion either way on it. I just don't think it's an egregious mistake like you do.
I’m just fired up from watching my teams do this for years. This was just the latest example of somebody doing it, and certainly not the worst of them. Stats and percentages don’t mean everything, but they should mean more than they seem to in the NFL. These guys need to bring in fat Jonah Hill to shake things up
Lol According to multiple sources, the Lions punter suffered the ankle injury that sidelined him all of training camp and the first six games of the regular season while on vacation in the Bahamas this summer. And while the two accounts vary slightly —from whether he stepped on it or dropped it on himself — Martin was injured by a conch shell.
