This is also classic Lions' fan stuff. They talk about the Dallas pick for 20 minutes before and after on NFLN. They talk about the Lions' pick for 20 seconds and go to commercial.
I would have preferred they take Wynn or Hernandez if they were going to go OL, but I'm also not going to pretend to know anything about interior OL prospects.
FWIW I'm in Charlotte and the Panthers fans here wanted the guy. But that makes perfect sense for them with Kalil retiring ...
It took ten minutes but I’m now rational enough to consider this an A+ pick. Nick Mangold just retired but his 2.0 version is now a Lion.
In the end i think our success will be driven by guys already on the roster + better coaching. Safe picks are fine I suppose ...
If our run game sucks next year I’m going to tell anyone who will listen that it doesn’t matter because football won’t be around in ten years.
These people that go to the draft and scream uncontrollably after their team’s pick are absolute sociopaths.
There have been many picks so far that woulda made me mad if I rooted for that team. Most notably Baker fucking Mayfield at #1
He was a starter for 3.5 years and never gave up a sack in his career. Was recruited as a tackle but moved to the interior line out of necessity. Bielema is a dumbass but he could find some great OL and he has said that Ragnow is probably the best he's ever coached. I know it looks like I'm trying to overhype an Arky guy... the rest of our team is trash but Ragnow is amazing. Interior OL are never exciting draft picks.
Worked with Arkansas his Freshman-Junior seasons. He's the real deal. He can play C or G at a very high level, and probably capable at tackle if he had to play there. He's also an amazing guy and will do great things in the community. Also, I know it's a year later, but I think Ledbetter will be a contributor for a long time in the league. Didn't get to watch much last year, did he get the chance to play much?
A lot of the guys who are considered the top available guys at different positions have rumored medical issues or are coming off significant surgeries. Top players remaining at different spots.... DE - Sam Hubbard, Rasheem Green (possible knee issue), Chad Thomas, Duke Ejiofor (shoulder issue), DT - Mo Hurst (heart issue), Tim Settle, Harrison Phillips, Derrick Nnadi, Nathan Shepherd, Foley Fatukasi, BJ Hill, Breeland Speaks EDGE - Harold Landry, Lorenzo Carter, Josh Sweat, Uchenna Nwosu, Ogbonnia Okorowonko, Kemoko Turay, Arden Key RB - Derrius Guice, Ronald Jones, Nick Chubb, Kerryon Johnson, Royce Freeman, Nyheim Hines, Bo Scarbrough, John Kelly TE - Dallas Goedert, Mike Gesicki, Ian Thomas, Dalton Schultz, Durham Smythe, Mark Andrews S - Justin Reid, Jessie Bates, Ronnie Harrison, Tarvarius Moore CB - Josh Jackson, Isaiah Oliver, Carlton Davis, Donte Jackson, MJ Stewart WR - Christian Kirk, Courtland Sutton, Dante Pettis, DJ Chark, Deon Cain, James Washington, Anthony Miller
Just about all those guys at the top of those lists will be gone when we pick, with the exception of possibly Hurst. In an ideal world, we come away from the next three rounds with an outside rusher, DT and RB. Not sure if they will be around, but I think Justin Reid, Harrison Phillips and Lorenzo Carter are all players we would take if they're still on the board.
