I like it, basically have 5 solid guys for the 3 middle OL spots. Amazing to think the interior line might become a significant strength for the Lions.
Not sure we need a OT. I doubt there will be anyone they could pick now who is an immediate starter over Waddle or even Lucas (with a year of experience).
If Waddle can stay healthy, I think he has a future as a RT. At some point we could use an upgrade at both OT positions, but our push up the middle blew last year. Shouldn't be an issue now.
I'm sure someone's keeping track, but it seems like the PAC and the ACC have pretty much smoked the 1st round.
Someone was Bruce Feldman @BruceFeldmanCFB The ACC & Pac-12 top all conferences with 9 1st RDers. SEC produced 7.
Potential BPA list at the different positions: RB - Tevin Coleman, TJ Yeldon, Ameer Abdullah, Duke Johnson, Jay Ajayi, Jeremy Langford, Buck Allen, David Johnson WR - Devin Smith, DGB, Jaelen Strong, Tyler Lockett, Sammie Coates, Reshad Greene TE - Maxx Williams, Clive Warford T - TJ Clemmings, Jake Fisher, La'el Collins, Donovan Smith G/C - AJ Cann, Tre Jackson, Ali Marpet DT - Eddie Goldman, Jordan Phillips, Carl Davis, Michael Bennett, Grady Jarrett, Xavier Cooper DE/OLB - Randy Gregory, Eli Harold, Preston Smith, Owa Odighizuha, Mario Edwards, Trey Flowers, Nate Orchard, Hau'Oli Kikaha LB - Eric Kendricks, Denzel Perryman, Benardrick McKinney, Paul Dawson CB - Eric Rowe, Jalen Collins, Ronald Darby, D'Joun Smith, PJ Williams, Quintin Rollins, Senquez Golson, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Alex Carter S - Landon Collins, Josh Shaw, Derron Smith, James Sample, Adrian Amos, Anthony Harris, Jaquiski Tartt
From that group, the DTs stick out as the deepest group, IMO. RB is also stacked. Some interesting DEs if they're worried about the pass rush. Who the hell knows at CB. Mayhew never seems to reach for them, so I could see us passing in rd2 and hoping the right guy falls to rd3. Potential Mayhew favorites would seem to be: Mario Edwards Ronald Darby Eric Rowe Tyler Lockett Tevin Coleman Ameer Abdullah Carl Davis Xavier Cooper Jordan Phillips
feeling this pick the morning after. bet the thinking was Tomlinson + 2nd rd DT > Brown + 2nd rd OG, whichi agree with ...
I'm fine with it, although it is a classic Mayhew stretch pick. The interior OL should be a strength for a while. Hoping for a corner and a DT today, although we'll probably get one of those and a RB or safety.
If we took Tyler Lockett or Devin Smith in rd 2, what would people think? I'm not a fan of Lockett that early just because we already have Tate to do the exact same stuff and it would seem like they're basically taking a returner on day 2. Smith would be fine for me just because he complements the other two WRs. Would still prefer a CB or DT, though.
Classic Mayhew will be trading our 2nd and the new 5th and next year's 5th to move up 9 spots and grab Tevin Coleman at 45.
that too, but moving down, getting two OL and two new picks, too reasonable to be considred 'classic mayhew'
It was a mixture of New Mayhew and Classic Mayhew - he made a smooth, considered move and then stretched on the pick. I like the move a lot and I'm not going to kill the pick - I was all about taking a tackle who could also play LG - but it was a bit of a stretch.
take the best available out of DT/CB/Tevin Coleman. Prefer if they'd wait on a RB and go with Duke Johnson or Yeldon later
A Mayhew thing to do would be draft La'el Collins and hope he is still a useful piece after a potential life sentence
Somebody is going to pull the trigger on Collins in the third. He's too good not to roll those dice - no chance he gets to the 6th or 7th. Shit, Mayhew drafted a guy he expected to redshirt on the practice squad for year in the 4th last year.
He isn't going to make it out of the second. Neither will Dorial Green-Beckham (who actually does belong in prison)
I'm just convinced that if the Lions draft either of them in that round, they will go to prison. If the Patriots select them, they're going to be HOFers
Was really hoping we were done with Nebraska people ITT. That is my biggest disappointment with the pick.
I predict at least one time this year when Joique fumbles and gets pulled, and then Abdullah fumbles the next series.
