And Calvin called him out today for his comments I guess
He also has no business talking about Calvin after he and Quinn fucked that up in the first place. But I didn't think what he said about Calvin was bad, and when I saw the response Birkett got from Calvin it felt like Birkett trying to stir up more shit on a subject Birkett loves to talk about.
I’m curious if we let Saleh get to Saturday. I assume he would want to hear Jacksonville out, but I would be leery about Urban.
Fuck Rod Wood.
So Ireland is tomorrow, and then we are likely done. I bet we hire Saleh this weekend and then Saleh provides input on the finalists.
It was probably in person because we played them the other day. I wouldn’t read into it that much.
I doubt he stayed in Detroit four days to interview in person. They could have just interviewed him Monday.
I don’t really want either guy, but I could talk myself into either. We probably make the playoffs this season if Patricia was fired in early October. I know it’s a hot take but the team was very functional under him, especially the offense.
But I still think it’s Saleh.
it doesn’t say when the interview took place.
He was scheduled to interview yesterday
Paton has the potential to be a great hire. Minnesota’s philosophy of hoarding picks is exactly what this team needs.
Is he a Stafford fan? That’s the important question
Do we know if Smith/Riddick/Dimotroff/Pioli interviews were virtual or in-person?
I believe they were virtual, but that might have been a league rule to keep the amount of people in the facilities limited.
It’s interesting that there hasn’t been much out there about any of the candidates we interviewed during the season, basically anywhere.
That's what I thought, but wasn't sure.
I also think people like Birkett take comments like Wood made about wanting to meet them in person before hiring them too seriously. If they interview Saleh today, know he's the guy and think there's any chance he could go elsewhere, they'll offer him the job before they meet him. Wouldn't be surprised if the same was true about someone like Fontenot or Holmes if they think someone else might hire them before they can meet with them. Birkett, especially, gets dumb about that stuff a lot.
I'm shocked that Rick Smith's name hasn't had any buzz at all this week. From either the new jobs that opened or from teams he already interviewed with.
I am curious if Saleh will be an in person interview.
It still seems like he will go to Atlanta, but they seem to be going through a similar process to us.
especially since quinn was nice enough to leave us five whole picks this year.
Who was that dude we traded up with a next years 3rd for a 4th for that was fucking terrible? That was one of my least favorite moves of all
Also feels like other teams 6th round and undrafted RBs are consistently better than our high 2nd round picks
Saleh is supposed to interview with the Jets Friday and the Jags Saturday.
He interviewed with the chargers too. Good for him, let him pick the best spot for his career. I still think he ends up in Detroit since he’s from there.
All the more reason not to come here IMO.
Saleh interview is over.
Don’t let him leave without signing!
Lions better hire his ass
We will end up with Marvin Lewis. Shouldn’t have let him leave!
Let’s do it
Houston is way more fucked up than us
Birkett seems to think there's a good chance a GM is hired by the end of the weekend, and then that GM will sit in on interviews for the HC finalists. And his tweets (along with Breer's) seem to suggest that Paton is the favorite.
Saw that Paton cancelled a few interviews next week and was still interviewing with the Broncos today to "honor his commitment" Seems inevitable at this point that he's the choice.
He's been hinting all day that he thinks the hire is made soon. It would be kind of weird if it was tonight since that means the Ireland interview was just to waste time, but maybe we get news on an offer going out tonight or tomorrow morning already.
Saleh interviewed with the Jets today. I am curious if he even pursues Jacksonville now that Meyer is interviewing. I imagine he and Bienemy would be finalists.
I'm curious if they still pursue interviews next week with Campbell and Smith (if he doesn't turn them down).
Also, I don't know what the rules are now, but I'm not sure if we can talk to Bieniemy again until KC is eliminated or until the AFCCG. Seemed like that used to be the rule, at least.
I keep forgetting about he’s still in the playoffs. Only having one team on bye in each conference has thrown me off.
Haven't done enough research on Paton, but it seems very Lions like hire to bring in Speilman to help out only to hire a guy who works for his brother. But ill withhold my reservation until I can do some more research on him
Paton has been very in demand in the past. He’s been very picky about what jobs he will pursue. I’m sure a big reason he even pursued this one is because of Rick’s endorsement of Chris.
Denver News reporter Mike Klis is reporting Paton is front runner for Denver job
He has a lot of ties to that organization.
Yeah, I know the optics are going to look one way if we hire Paton, but in reality I think it's a lot more likely that Paton would choose to be the Lions' GM because Chris is here than the other way around if he ends up being the guy. Paton's been one of the top GM candidates in the league for 5-7 years now and the main reason he doesn't have one of these jobs yet is likely because he's turned down opportunities and/or Minnesota hasn't allowed him to interview for some of them.
If I was guaranteed Hue wasn’t coming with Marvin, I would be fine with the hire m. He’s been a good evaluator of coaching talent in the past. That said, I would hope we would interview Smith and Campbell before we settled on him.
And I won’t venture in to the Saleh aspect of the search.
POD annoys me, but they aggregate well
