I don't think it's official yet, but everyone seems to be of the belief it's going to happen after the Coen thing in Jacksonville yesterday
Salah being able to work in his hometown might be appealing, but it seems like he’s basically already lock to go back to the Niners. I think I’d rather have Allen anyway though.
I liked having Randle El on staff. We're losing too many of our ex-players. Wonder if first dibs on WR coach goes to Rex's kid or JT Barrett
That's a whole lot of faith in a guy who has only been coaching 4 years. I guess we at least have two defensive coaches on staff with DC experience to help.
What's a normal/average timeline to positional coach? Edit: you mean Sheppard not Hamilton, coincidentally both have 4 years of coaching experience
I don't know what the normal time is, but yes I was talking about Sheppard. Dan has shown pretty good instincts so he deserves benefit of the doubt at this point. But this is a very different situation from what he walked into in terms of the hires needing to be ready from the jump. Especially with the schedule we're playing.
I mean minus turnovers and a slightly healthier defense we would have done similar to Washington most likely. Not trying to take away from Washington, but our defense was so depleted and we still could have won if you take away the self inflicted wounds on offense We definitely couldn't overcome a bad Goff game against them. Offense would need to be on their A game
Heard on Justin Rogers podcast this week that it’s possible Campbell could call plays as he has experience from the time he called them in 2021 or 2022. He’d let Montgomery and Engster (sp) call some throughout the year and Justin’s thought was Campbell would promote whichever did a better job.
One thing to note there is the Rooney Rule applies to coordinator openings, as well, where you have to interview two minority candidates for each coordinator job. With Randle El leaving, Montgomery is the only realistic in house option to interview (unless Randle El interviewed and then left knowing he wasn't getting it).
I'm sure he is, but he was going to hire a OC anyway and I believed it to be relevant since the person he hired was not from our staff.
Can you be something that goes below underwhelmed? I assume this means Campbell might call plays but who knows? Morton does seem to be coveted by good coaches though (Harbaugh, Payton, Campbell) so there is that.
Campbell clearly views Morton as either a better version of Engstrand or at least a more experienced version. Maybe both. No clue whether he's right or not, but at least he's had both guys in the room during his tenure before making that choice. Since they're hiring Morton, I think I would rather lose Engstrand than Brunell.
Amazing how quickly we've gone from "no former Lion's coach has ever gotten hired anywhere else" to "Det Lions staff" on your resume having so much cred.
