yeah - I was hoping they’d let him walk at that price what is the thread’s opinion on bringing back Davis, Zeitler, and Levi? I’d like to see the first two back at the right price, but would be interested in trying someone new with Levi’s money
I think Zeitler is about price at his age. If he's willing to come back for what he made this year, I'm in. If he wants something bigger, I think we can look at other options. Davis is tougher for me. I think he's really good but after last year durability has to factor into the equation somewhere and he's always hurt.
Should just put him in bubble wrap and keep him inactive until December in the hopes he can stay healthy for more than 2 weeks through the end.
It does. I looked at a handful of FA rankings and Reed was mostly viewed as the #1 CB and at worst the #2. He was a top 9 overall player on all of them.
This Davis stuff got me nervous here. Don't like how long it's been without confirmation and the fact he deleted his Detroit tweet can't be a good sign
Birkett just posted an article The Detroit Lions didn't waste any time landing a new starting cornerback for their secondary. The Lions are closing in on a deal to sign New York Jets cornerback D.J. Reed as a replacement for Carlton Davis. "That's what it's looking like," Reed said in a brief phone conversation Monday with the Free Press, before ending the call to talk his agent.
From espn Lions to sign CB D.J. Reed The deal: Three years, $48 million Grade: A Almost every time I write about cornerbacks, I'm compelled to include a note about how volatile players at the position are. But the 28-year-old Reed is an exception, a consistent player year in and year out and, in my view, a long underrated player. I liked it when the Jets signed three years ago and I like this signing by Detroit. Here are Reed's yards allowed per coverage snap from 2022 to 2024: 0.6, 1.0 and 0.8, respectively. That's three straight seasons better than average (1.1) in the category relative to other outside corners. Dating to his time in Seattle, Reed has been better-than-average in five consecutive seasons. He also averaged a 13% target rate in his three seasons in New York, slightly lower than average despite playing opposite Sauce Gardner! Those are strong numbers and exactly what the Lions need. I'd rather have Reed than Carlton Davis III, and the Lions got him for cheaper than what the Patriots paid Davis.
What options we got left at edge? Bosa? Trade for Hendrickson? Getting a comp pick for Glenn in the 3rd and projected to get a 4th comp pick next year for Davis makes a trade for Hendrickson easier to stomach losing picks. Unsure if we can work his contract in though
Holmes is really solid, basically turned Davis into a slight upgrade, a 4th rd pick and extra cap space. Very similar to when he swapped Jamaal with Montgomery Edit : Nevermind on the comp pick, I still don't understand those fully. Still solid move
Fantastic. Has Zeitler signed anywhere yet? I assume we’re waiting on him to see whether he can get a big number somewhere else.
Has Holmes given out a "bad" contract yet during his tenure? Maybe the Barnes contract is a bit richer than expected, but he should be a quality starter. Struggling to think of another example off the top of my head.
The IOL has got to be a worry. Ragnow is held together by duct tape and will and could retire at any moment. Glasgow was getting bullied at times last year and is getting old. Mahogany ready to start?
I've gotta think Mahogany is penciled in at RG, Glasgow at this point is more suited as a backup to the 3 IOL positions imo. That leaves 1 starting spot and a backup needed unless I'm forgetting one of the mid-round guys from the past couple years.
I think Mahogany is ready to start, but I also am not sure Glasgow is any better than a 3rd guard at this point. I think we have to add an IOL vet and still draft one in top 2-3 rds
Mehki Becton had a little bit of a renaissance playing OG last year. I am intrigued by the idea of signing him (for the right price) to play next to Sewell.
If he can get on the field there, great. I'm not sure how much longer Decker has left, so maybe the plan is get Manu out there and then kick him out when Decker hangs it up.
Would be nice to get 2 good guards and a depth guy out of Mahogany, Sorsdal, Glasgow and Manu. Skipper is the backup OT.
