Definitely need last years picks to play better, but I feel there won't be as big of a drop off when backups in now as previous years
Gibbs had to make that switch solely for the memes turning that 0 into a gold ring for his newfound Sonic nickname.
I’d love that draft for us. Gives us major depth, especially if Davenport gets injured again. If he stays healthy, then we can keep guys especially fresh
Brugler's 7 round mock for us. Wouldn't hate it. I would be surprised if we didn't really like JTT and he seems like an easy pick in the 2nd round if he's there because we seem to prefer that skill set over the smaller, quicker pass rushers. Detroit Lions 1 (28). CB Maxwell Hairston, Kentucky 2 (60). Edge JT Tuimoloau, Ohio State 3 (102). OT/G Wyatt Milum, West Virginia 4 (130). LB Jeffrey Bassa, Oregon 6 (196). DT Nazir Stackhouse, Georgia 7 (228). WR Nick Nash, San Jose State 7 (244). S Rayuan Lane III, Navy
I'm hoping we trade out of the first and get an extra pick in the top 125 somewhere. 50-125 seems like a sweet spot from a depth standpoint for the positions we probably need to be looking at. I also think safety is a very underrated need area and wouldn't be surprised if we took one in the first 3 picks. We have no one after Joseph and Branch right now in terms of depth and I'm not sure we're going to be able to pay them both long term.
Who cares about the mocks. Holmes will take who he wants and has proven to be pretty good at it outside of a few picks. the national boys that MG2 is obsessed with know as much as our shitty beat writers here
Seems like we are going to have to trade some of our vets. No we can afford them all. Our window to win is closing.
Keep drafting well and keep moving some guys for picks to replenish the young talent. But yea, the more big contracts given out, the likely harder it will get
I can see us signing maybe one of Gibbs, Jamo, and LaPorta. Sounds like Hutch will get massive contract. I can see us going heavy on offense this draft.
I think we'll sign two of those three plus Hutch. I'm guessing we go (in some order) Edge, OL (2), WR, DL (2), QB Edge and DL are obvious given current roster health. OL is aging and expensive except Penei. Need cheaper options within the next two years. Still need quality WR and DB depth (also special teamers). QB because we clearly don't trust Hooker.
Kind of odd we used more of our pre draft interviews on RB than OG. Also more on wr, dt and lb than we did on G
We drafted 4 guys we used top 30 interviews on last year (and signed a 5th as an udfa) and I think we've taken 2+ every year of Holmes. So good odds a couple of these guys we take Detroit Lions Top 30, pre-draft visits RB Cam Skattebo, Arizona State (source) RB Lan Larison, UC-Davis (source) WR Matthew Golden, Texas (source) WR Isaac TeSlaa, Arkansas (source) Note: Could be defined as a local visit TE Ben Yurosek, Georgia (source) OL Grey Zabel, North Dakota State (source) OG Dylan Fairchild, Georgia (source) OT Anthony Belton, NC State (source) EDGE Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M (source) — Our story EDGE Josaiah Stewart, Michigan (source) Note: Could be defined as a local visit EDGE Que Robinson, Alabama (source) DT Derrick Harmon, Oregon (source) Note: Could be defined as a local visit DT Tyliek Williams, Ohio State (source) LB Jihaad Campbell, Alabama (source) LB Chaz Chambliss, Georgia (source) LB Ruben Hyppolite, Maryland (source) CB Maxwell Hairston, Kentucky (source) Note: Could be defined as a local visit S Jonas Sanker, Virginia (source) — Our story Detroit Lions local visit (doesn’t count against top-30) S Jaylen Reed, Penn State (source) — from Detroit Detroit Lions virtual visits EDGE Fadil Diggs, Syracuse (source) EDGE Josaiah Stewart, Michigan (source)
It seems like there will be a ton of linemen taken before we pick. I would imagine that means Holmes stays aggressive and trades up to get a player he likes.
I feel like our defensive preferences are weird and a lot of the OLB/DE types that people mock to us aren't the kinds of people we prefer. I've been preparing myself for months that we go off script a bit and take someone like JTT or Scourton over people like Pearce or the BC guy because JTT and Scourton seem like our preferred brand of DE. I could see us taking an undersized pass rush only type like Josiah Stewart or David Walker at the end of round 3. I don't see us taking that style of player in round 1 or maybe even round 2.
Seeing how the Cam Jurgens transition has worked for the Eagles, I think I’m really hoping to get Ragnow’s successor this draft. But that person has to to be able to play RG this season.
Giants are trying to dump Kayvon and get back into 1st rd. I don't think we could pay him, but him for a pick swap of 28 and 34 and maybe a late rounder would be interesting
I’ve seen people say they think we like Malaki Starks. If we move Branch to Nickel it might make some sense.
Don’t believe he’s a guy that will be on our board. Lot of talk that he isn’t a Campbell type player.
Of the guys available, Derrick Harmon and Donovan Jackson seem the most Lions-ish picks on the board. I'm also curious if we would be intrigued enough with Josh Simmons to take him if he's there and play him at guard for a year or two before letting him replace Decker. But his medical might be weird with the knee thing.
I'm starting to feel crazy and say take Golden. Him, Jamo and Gibbs on the field at same time might be the fastest trio ever.
Have no idea who i want us to take at this point. Both OG i thing we'd be in on are both gone now too
Position needs aren't huge but I could see Jihaad Campbell. Clearly they thought enough about possibly using a 1st on a LB that they did a pre draft visit on him. But yea I'm short on ideas
Mike Green makes the most sense from a talent standpoint, but he's been accused of sexual assault twice and I can't remember the last time we drafted anyone with a rap sheet remotely like that since that one disaster draft under Schwartz like 15 years ago.
One of the safeties might be the best value here but swinging on Simmons or Johnson wouldn’t bother me.
