Things that I've gleaned from all the varying camp reports: - Ebron looks much improved but it doesn't mean shit until the games start - Slay is ready to become a top 10 corner - Van Noy is still not one of our three (maybe four?) best backers - RT is still a black hole - Stafford looks great which is a step above the normal training camp fare (usually he just looks good) - Abdullah is likely our best back - Calvin is apparently a man possessed - As of today, Tapp would start somewhere on the DL
Is Stafford's baby fat back? Good to hear that Calvin is 100%. Hopefully Matthew doesn't get him killed early and often.
I am still pissed that we refuse to invest in a backup QB with a pulse. Stafford may not be elite but we go from a potential 10 win team to 4 win team if he goes down for any length of time.
Moore is garbage. I still don't get why we haven't spent a 3rd or 4th rounder on a QB and developed him.
I like that the 50s on our field are yellow to represent SuperBowl50...or the number of super bowls we haven't participated in.
did someone get hurt? just caught the tail end of the press conferences and heard Caldwell say someone had a significant injury and will miss a lot of time. Didn't hear a name.
Hard to tell considering how shitty the Jets were last night. Zenner looked really good though while Winn struggled. Still Zenner has to show a ton on ST to win the last RB spot. I did think TJ Jones looked great on punt returns. He could ultimately steal Ross job if Abdullah handles the KRs. Obviously Jones still has to show out as WR but his ST value clearly puts him in the race.
Gotta say, Ebron showed me something on that catch tonight. That's the first time I've seen first round talent from him.
People can debate how good Stafford is, but this current team has a 10-6 ceiling with him under center. If he gets hurt, our ceiling might be 3-13.
Our LBs are getting abused in coverage tonight. Levy being out is an issue but the other guys look terrible.
Hunt should make this team. Easily our most disruptive DL this preseason (with the caveat that Ansah barely played) Also Zenner needs to be on this roster. He is simply a good player. I know Winn plays good ST but Zenner is just a much better player.
Whitehead should start over Tulloch. Not sure what we do at SLB but Byrnes isn't bad. I assume the Lions think Tully is our third best LB though so he has to play the middle. Regardless, Tahir Whitehead is good. Also there is zero chance Ihedigbo finishes the season starting at SS.
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora 2m2 minutes ago Wouldn't be surprised to see Lions move rookie K Kyle Brindza after a strong preseason. Prater is their kicker. Could be need elsewhere
But what an excellent tale of fiscal responsibility. Hopefully they can pick him up on that show Ballers
Lions gonna be deep in that Rutgers talent: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000518603/article/buccaneers-trade-te-tim-wright-to-lions Buccaneers trade TE Tim Wright to Lions By Kevin Patra Around the NFL writer Published: Aug. 31, 2015 at 09:26 a.m. Updated: Aug. 31, 2015 at 10:17 a.m. Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has swung another trade and Tim Wright is on the move again. The Buccaneers traded the tight end to the Lions, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday. The trade was later confirmed by the Bucs. In return the Bucs received backup kicker Kyle Brindza. Brindza will have a brief shot at earning the duties in Tampa as the Bucs' kicker-go-round continues. The team signed veteran Connor Barth last week. This trade is a case of both Wright and Brindza being on the roster bubble, likely to be cut as teams get down to 75 players before Tuesday. While neither is secured a job with their new team, the swap gives each a better chance to win a gig. The Lions have been searching for tight end depth behind Brandon Pettigrew and 2014 first-round pick Eric Ebron. Joseph Fauria, a 6-foot-7 red-zone target, has been the third tight end, but has struggled to stay healthy and hasn't impressed in preseason action. For the second consecutive August, the Buccaneers have traded Wright. Last year Tampa shipped Wright to New England for guard Logan Mankins. Wright caught 26 passes for 259 yards with six touchdowns for the Patriots. It's the third trade Mayhew has swung this month -- shipping corner Mohammed Seisay to Seattle and offensive tackleMichael Williams to New England.
is the thread title indicative of ebron playing well? saw him and golden tate in chapel hill this january they both appeared jovial hth
Yeah, a 5'10", 4.57 40 WR coming off of ACL surgery was a special kind of interesting for Mayhew. 2nd rounders drafted by Mayhew: 2009 - Louis Delmas 2010 - traded to Minnesota to draft Jahvid Best in the first 2011 - Titus Young, Mikel Leshoure 2012 - Ryan Broyles 2013 - Darius Slay 2014 - traded up for and drafted Kyle Van Noy 2015 - Ameer Adbullah Holy fuck I just realized I drafted Abdullah twice last night and he's going to get hit by a train or something. Delmas was a good player with an injury history who got injured a lot, which isn't unexpected - he just tore his ACL and is out for the season. Mayhew is currently batting 1 for 7 on 2nd rounders with Ameer a TDB. Including Ameer, there will be 2 guys out of 8 second round draft picks made by Martin Mayhew in his career who will be ACTIVE in week 1. Considering this fucking guy also drafted two first round TEs and Nick Fairley in the first round over that time frame, I have no idea how we've made the playoffs twice in his tenure. Mayhew has also drafted just 10 guys who will start for the Lions in game 1 over his 7 years, assuming Tomlinson and Ameer start and including the punter. He's an awful fucking drafter.
Broyles tore his ACL and Achilles in back-to-back years after he was drafted here. But yeah, that's the GM's fault. Same with the 2nd round pick from last season who lost his rookie season because of an injury. Or the safety (who played in 45 college games, btw) who started here for five years before injuries made him less effective. Mayhew's draft record isn't very good, especially 2011-12. Blaming the GM for injuries seems pretty stupid to me, though.
Yes and no. You can't blame the GM for the injuries, but I believe a lot of these players had injuries or other problems in college. Not always the best indicator, but it has to be a factor.
