Think there is anyway we could convince Blake to decline his player option now to agree to cut him so he can go sign with a winner this year? Wishful thinking, I know
This season would be going kind of perfectly right now if Hayes doesn't get hurt and could be out there doing Delon Wright things where he's good one day and mediocre the next. I think without Rose and Blake he'd be doing better right now than he was before he got hurt. I can't imagine we trade a piece to move Blake. That doesn't help us, and the S&T we did with Houston ties up our 1st round pick well into the future. I think we're stuck with him the next 1.5 years, unfortunately. I don't think they buy him out because you're throwing away any chance of using that big expiring deal if something came around the corner.
We are gonna fuck around enough to end up with 6 pick. We could be top 5 team in East if we ended up in top 2 of draft
I never for one second imagined Blake would embrace playing in Detroit, but the guy has been a total pro since he arrived. Really hope he winds up on a contender.
If Blake wants to move on its simple, tell him to decline his player option and we will release him now
Especially since pretty much everyone in the media has been trying to get him to talk shit about it since the deal. Sucks that he got hurt and this is what he is now, but we've seen a lot of players who chose to be here and had clout who have acted far, far worse here when shit went bad (fuck you, Rip Hamilton).
Since the Pistons took Grant Hill in 1994, build me a 10 man rotation of Pistons 1st rd picks, keeping in mind that includes 12 top 15 and 8 top 10 picks PG : Stuckey, Knight SG : KCP, Kennard SF : Prince, Bey? PF : Monroe, Maxiell C : Drummond, Ratliff Does that team win 20 games in a NBA season? So that's awesome for Bey, but I mean look at how we've drafted...
I understand why he says that, but honestly I don't care as long as we're not stretching it out over the next 3-5 years. We can eat all of next year's money as long as we're taking it all next year, as far as I'm concerned.
Dennis Smith went from playing in the G League bubble to getting 30+ minutes as a starting PG here in a couple weeks. Good for him.
This is a pretty big stretch for Saben Lee, I would think. He's nowhere near ready for this, but I think he needs to at least show some flashes during this stretch because he's going to get some minutes.
Wtf is the latest with Blake? Just going to pay his ass to not play the rest of the year because he sucks? Don’t want to eat his contract and he won’t work something out with us?
I think he'll sit until we work out something with him where we pay him as much of his remaining contract as he can get, then release him. No reason for him to be playing right now anyway - he's bad and not getting better - so he's probably asking for a lot.
So the hope is that the fans/media turns on him while he sits out and collects money? I'm all for paying his ass to sit if there are no better options. I dont want to release his ass and watch him become good somewhere else unless the Pistons get some legit cash break.
It seems like negotiations for a buyout were going on before he was shut down. My guess is we don’t do anything until the deadline, just to see if a miracle happens and someone wants to deal for him.
That man's body is donezo...I don't think you have to worry about that last part. You have as many dunks in an NBA game this season as he does.
Rookies played well, and we lost. Win win Hopefully we trade Ellington and Wright. And Blake griffin is a bitch. I hope we refuse to cut his ass, unless he takes a massive buyout.
yeah I worded that wrong. I would hope we get like a 15% discount. He wants to win, so he’s gotta take a little too
So how do we view our offseason now? So far it seems like we have way more hits than misses, but Hayes is probably the most important move we made and that one is TBD. It’s hard to argue with what we did, though the value for certain guys (like Plumlee) is still a bit too rich for me. He’s not an anchor though.
I love it. I think Plumlee had been a great value. This team is fun to watch and we’re a better franchise when dealing with reclamation projects rather than high priced stars
Draft Hayes - Played 7 games and was not in position to succeed. His awful performance is noted, but I'm not panicking at all (yet) Stewart - Steep price to get him. He's definitely a solid rotation big. Not sure how much more. Bey - Been pretty much what everyone expected and should be a long term asset Lee - Shocked at his recent performance, but Casey seems to love him and that's important because that was sneaky expensive to get him Free Agents Grant - Been really good, although coming back to earth a bit. Looks like a strong signing Plumlee - Probably played as well as we could hope, and seems like a good fit with the young roster. Wish it was 2 years instead of 3 Jackson - Very good upside play, and should be more productive without Blake Okafor - I don't get it, but he's hurt so whatever. Wish we would have just kept Tony Bradley Ellington - Really good, important signing that has opened the floor a bit for the kids and Grant to succeed Trades Wright - Much better in a PG role, and takes some of the sting out of the price of that Houston deal Musa - cut before camp and that trade looks incredibly dumb in hindsight McGruder - whatever Sirvydis (not sure where he belongs) - I don't know what he's here Overall, it's hard to complain about the players they brought in. That Bruce Brown deal looks really dumb, though, and I'll never really understand the Christian Wood stuff. We ultimately traded a protected future 1 + Wood for Wright and Stewart, and because of it had to eat multiple contracts to fit in the likes of Grant and Plumlee. That will never make sense to me, and I think Stewart ultimately has to become at least a mid-tier starting center to getting that deal above "inexcusable" territory.
I wish I hadn’t watched any of Oklahoma State today because it made me sad knowing we won’t win the lottery to land Cunningham.
I realized today that I hadn’t heard anything about Luke Kennard this season, so I did a quick Twitter search and this was the first hit: guess we did right to get out when we did
Oh yeah, there was never a reason to keep him around. Solid role player but wouldn’t make sense to toss money at him during a rebuild at all.
