I probably would, too. I think SVG would, as well. Ford had Dekker going to us with Winslow and Hezonja both off the board. If that's the top 7, we basically would get the first pick in the second round of the draft because there are 7-8 guys you could say belong in that consensus tier. I think Dekker is one of those players.

If those are the top 7, I'm not sure there's really any difference between the guy who goes 8 and the guy who goes 15. It's just a matter of need and preference.

I'm guessing we'll have worked out pretty much everyone in the 6-20 range by the end up here, but we're working out Myles Turner today. Also in for workouts over the last week were:

    Stanley Johnson (Monday)
    Justise Winslow (Tuesday)
    Devin Booker (Thursday)
    Kelly Oubre (Friday)

Kaminsky worked out with Turner yesterday. Lyles and Cauley-Stein haven't worked out for us and don't appear to be scheduled to do so. Not sure if that means anything, but both guys seem to have enough questions about them that you'd think we would want to see them if we had high interest.

Rumor yesterday also had the Celtics targeting Turner in a trade up. Seems they really want a rim protector, and Turner and WCS are both pretty good in that area. If Hezonja isn't there and we don't love one of these forwards, moving back and picking up a future 1 or a young player like James Young seems kind of tempting.

Maybe it's just me but I saw a lot of Dekker over the years and he never really blew me away aside from this past tourney.

Barring an unforeseen drop, my board is as follow...

    Tier 1
    1. Winslow
    2. Hezonja

    Tier 2
    Stanley Johnson

    Tier 3
    1a. Turner
    1b. Lyles

    Tier 4
Booker - a week ago this pick would have upset me but it'll at least draw a meh from me now.

Not sure what to make of this. Not sure why NY would do this, so it makes me think this is more about dumping Jennings than wanting Hardaway:

So, thoughts on Johnson over Winslow? I have no issues with it. They're similar guys, IMO, and I think Johnson's a better shooter right now.

Hearing Matt Dery talk about how badly Winslow performed on his workout here, this wasn't shocking. I still worry about our offense, but if we can get Tobias Harris or Danny Green in FA, I think this works out well for us.

Initially I hated it, but it sounds like Winslow was barely on our board & johnson's shooting numbers / overall offensive ability is better than I thought.

From what I gather, pistons love him.

People have talked about Johnson's shot being broken or whatever, and I wonder if that's legit or if it's just because his release is a little low. His outside shooting numbers seem fine to me, and most of them suggest he's more likely to shoot it better than Winslow.

I do wonder if he's quick enough to be the defender people talk him up as being, though. Everyone says he's really good on defense, but not many wings are that size and move well enough to be above average defenders.

Kaminsky? Could also be Dekker, maybe.

That could be some semantics there, too. If they decided Johnson was better than Winslow a week ago, it's not like you're really debating it tonight since they play the same position and the fit would be the same.

I am thinking Booker or Dekker.

Winslow had a shitty workout in Denver and it seems like it was basically an identical situation here as well. Wouldn't shock me if he tanked on purpose to get to Miami.

Piston fans probably aren't going to want to read Chad Ford's grades tomorrow morning. He's trashed the pick several times and just agree with Amin Elhassan, who said Hollis-Jefferson could be a better pro.

The NBA is really weird when it comes to workouts. That said, if a guy is purposely sabotaging his workout, I don't think you want to pick the kid. It's impossible to prove, but there is video out there of Winslow working out for Denver that is pretty fucking damning.

Probably not a ton, but I don't know that they did that in this case. Winslow's a weird player and I'm not shocked that no one pulled the trigger on him in the top 9.

Chad Ford had Stanley Johnson ahead of Justise Winslow in his rankings as late as mid-February, and didn't consider Winslow an elite guy until after the tournament.

I think Johnson probably gets hurt in that comp because Winslow was the 2nd or 3rd guy on Duke while Johnson was the #1 guy for Arizona for most of the year. No doubt Winslow outperformed him late in the year and had an insane tourney run, but their roles weren't the same on the offensive end.

I don't think Winslow tanked anything. He could have just refused to work out for Denver and Detroit, which probably would have had the same effect.

So Stan says we're going after two UFAs (almost certainly Danny Green and Demarre Carroll), and if we miss on them, two RFAs (very likely Tobias Harris and Khris Middleton). Given his candor on the subject, it leads me to believe they're going hard in this bidding with the idea that they're coming away with one of them.

What's the high water mark for you on each guy where we could sign them and you'd either be happy or at least not upset about overpaying?

    I'd probably go:

    Green - 4 yrs/$40m
    Carroll - 3 yrs/$24m
    Harris - 4 yrs/$50m
    Middleton - 4 yrs/$44m

I know I'm not getting Carroll or Middleton at those prices. I'm probably not getting either of the others. I'm more than okay with that.

Rumor going around at the deadline was we had interest in Joe Johnson. Stein had a rumor today about the Griz talking to Brooklyn about him, but there wasn't a contract fit for a deal. If we strike out in FA, I could see us taking on that money for a year as the stop gap guy at the 3 while Stan decides what he has in Stanley Johnson.

Tobias Harris is basically all that's left in FA and it's pretty likely he will get matched even if we offer him the max. Probably a good time to start thinking about trade targets such as Joe Johnson. Probably not a bad thing to be honest.

Been out most of the day, and I'm currently hoping that Tobias Harris signs with the Pistons and averages 20+ points a night and leads us to 50 wins so that Vince Ellis has to deal with 100 tweets a day for the rest of his life about how fucking retarded he's been the last week or so on the subject.

I figured they'd all end up this high. Carroll ended up a bit higher than expected, but Green supposedly took less from SA and Middleton was always getting the max from Milwaukee. My post was essentially a way of saying "I don't want any of these guys for that kind of money".
