If they don't resign THJ, I think they could still either give Schroder a $20 million number for next year and then keep Beasley for $14.1M. Or they could lose Schroder, as well, and then pay Beasley upwards of $16+ million per. The downside to that option being that you're losing multiple rotation players and are going to struggle to replace them with similar guys. From a trade standpoint, it is also advantageous for us to stay as an over the cap team with those cap holds as opposed to using room.
The NBA cap is beyond. I didn’t know we HAD to sign THJ to sign Beasley to the MLE. If we signed Beasley to a $16M annual salary, couldn’t we also sigh Schroder and then use the MLE on someone else? I honestly have no idea.
We have multiple options of whether to be a team that operates above or below the cap due to our contracts. Our current contracts for next year equate to roughly $17M under the cap. THJ has a cap hold of roughly $24M, meaning if we sign him for more than that, he would count towards the cap at that number. Schroder has a cap hold of $16M. Beasley's is $7M, but we do not hold his Bird Rights due to him signing a small, one-year deal last summer. If we operate as an under the cap team at $17M below: - We have to renounce the rights to Beasley, Schroder and THJ, meaning we lose their Bird Rights to go over the cap to sign them. - We could sign Beasley (or anyone from another team) for a salary up to $17M in salary for next season. - We would have access to "room exceptions" that around $8M and $4M, respectively. - We could use those exceptions on any of the three discussed players, but Beasley and (likely) Schroder are going to get more than that. If we operate as an over the cap team: - We would use the cap holds of THJ and Schroder to get there - We can sign Schroder and THJ for basically whatever we want on shorter deals to either keep them or potentially use them as trade chips. - We could also use one or both in a sign-and-trade for someone else at a similar salary (maybe someone like John Collins, for example). - I think we would have to resign at least one of them for at least $17M in order to stay over the cap before... - We have access to the non-tax team exception that starts salaries next year at $14.1M - We can make trades for players that don't have to fit into that space, meaning if we trade an $8M player for a $10M player, that $2M extra doesn't eat into what we can use to sign Beasley or anyone else.
Jeez, I first read that as meaning " THJ, Ivey, Beasley, and Lanier can all walk. Just bring Schroeder back.
Apparently Jake Fischer wrote that we were planning to make a "competitive offer" for Naz Reid before he decided to stick in Minnesota. He says we now are expected to pursue Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Santi Aldama, while also saying we are expected to resign Beasley. I am very confused as to how we get to the point where all of those things could possibly happen simultaneously. Or why we would be in on NAW after resigning Beasley. It would be cool, but Alexander-Walker isn't signing in Detroit to be the 4th guard when he could sign somewhere else to start.
He's a meme. Its Manute Bol kid. We actually traded for him once and it got rescinded. He had huge potential at one point, but hes nothing more than bench fodder now. Also it appears Dennis is gone
I’m sure they knew this was coming. He’s basically written off now and won’t be back. guess NAW will be his replacement.
He’s getting suspended for a year or he’s getting a lifetime ban. The contract would be voided. But I’m glad we know now to plan without it.
This sucks. I wasn't giddy about paying him off a career year but he was still so good last year and replacing all those 3 is going to be damn near impossible no matter how we end up from a roster standpoint.
Cunningham Ivey Thompson Aldama Duren Alexander-Walker Sasser Holland Harris Stewart Depending on what it would take to get Aldama in terms of draft compensation, that is a better roster than the one with the other four guys. But I don't want to dump first round picks into getting Aldama to do it.
didn't realize Aldama is only 24. He's kind of a swing for the fences and hope he takes the next step kind of signing. Would need a couple of guys to progress, but that lineup you posted is the type of new NBA model of depth that is needed to win
Recent events have me reconsidering this question. If we could turn THJ into a sign & trade asset and get Collins by throwing in a few 2nd rounders, I would do that at this point. Still don't really want to trade anyone from the rotation for him.
I'm cool with the idea of NAW or maybe LeVert at the MLE ($14.1 million). The stuff currently being thrown around about either of those guys getting more than that seems excessive for both and has me confused.
With WNBA becoming more and more popular, I think it’s a solid move. Hopefully brings more money to the city from people coming down and spending at local places
I can’t wait to see what dumb car-related name they come up with. Does anyone still own the Turbos name?
I'm happy with him for 2 years. Langdon and Bickerstaff both know him really well. I didn't want the full 4 year MLE but that's a good price.
That dude has gotten very annoying over the last couple of years. Credit for being a Pistons Super Fan, I guess...but, he's basically an angry incel Pistons Super Fan.
I haven't seen anyone of note saying it, but apparently there are rumors that Schroder to Sacramento could be a sign-and-trade with us getting Malik Monk. Which seems insane but it's the Kings so I think it probably will just be us maybe getting a pick/trade exception and they move Monk somewhere else.
