I like how Murray fits with Cade and think he will be near the top of this draft in terms of career productivity. But I also think he goes to the Kings at 4 now

Assuming the top 3 are gone it’s the following for me

    1. Ivey
    2. Sharpe
    3. Murray

I'd rather see how Cade, Ivey, Bey, Grant and Stewart roll than Cade, ?, Bey, Murray, Stewart.

Now if we somehow could land Brunson to play 2 and Ayton to play 5, then I'd be more open to taking Murray

Your line-up is better. It's also very likely committing $28M per year for Grant's age 29-32 seasons beyond next year.

And still might be the right move. Just saying that we're either trading Grant now or we're extending him. Keeping him and possibly moving him at the deadline or letting him get to FA isn't really an option. At least it shouldn't be.

I'd move him this offseason but wouldn't for a mid to late 1st. I'd rather take a future pick than that. But I think we could get 7th pick in a package for him and I'd do that. Or use him in a S/T to make salaries work two add 2 FA pieces.

Why is letting him walk not an option? You’d be using the cap space created by not signing him, to sign some other guy who may be a better fit.

Why would you wait a year and let him walk for nothing to clear space next summer when you can trade him now, get something in return, and still clear that space?

I agree there is no reason to not trade him now if you're not going to extend him now.

Fuck if you are only getting a mid to late 1st as someone suggested you're better off holding onto him IMO. May extend him during season, I'm sure you could get as good or better offer at trade deadline if you decide not to, and hell worst case he doesn't resign and you don't move him at deadline you still may be able to get something signing and trading him next offseason to a contender without cap room. But again, I think his value is more than that and I'd move him if possible, just not for nothing

    From The Athletic

    — This draft has the potential for some unexpected twists and turns. The belief among NBA executives and scouts is that picks Nos. 4 and 7, held by the Kings and Blazers, could be available in a trade. The top three picks are unsettled, and there are proponents for both Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith Jr. to go first overall next month. That has the potential for a chaotic top 10, which would have trickle-down effects.

I’m probably the biggest Jerami Grant fan on this board but I do not see getting a lottery pick for him. That ship has sailed

National articles suggesting trades around 7th and I've even seen 4th pick for him. Think 4th is definitely not going to happen, but I think a package with 7th is doable. If not, keep him (not sure anyone in 8-13/14 range would want him but I'd listen to those offers too. But anything after that I'm not).

I also don't think Pistons would do it either based on Weavers comments about Grant. I think he'd need a real good offer to trade him.

I don’t see the 7 happening. If Portland gets OKC’s 12 maybe. I think Grant is staying in Detroit though

Not a surprise but Edwards says the Pistons are focused on Ivey, Sharpe, Murray and Mathurin with their pick.

Supposedly Zach Lowe said on his podcast that he heard there were some conversations about Grant and the 7th overall pick.

7th for Grant makes too much sense (with us eating a contract like Bledsoe). How else are they going to add a veteran to that roster. I may not be following too closely but don't think they have a ton of cap room, and Grant isn't perfect but I dont know of too many guys rumored to be on trade market now better than him. If they want to give us like Anfernee Simons or someone instead, sure, but Portland has committed to try and win with Lillard and I don't see too many other options for them

We're still 4 years away from being actually good, right? I'm definitely team 'try to find a way to trade Grant for #7.'

"The pick that seems even more certain to be on the move is Portland’s at No. 7, with sources saying the Blazers will push to immediately put a competitive team around Damian Lillard rather than start over. Detroit’s Jerami Grant has been the hot name here, but the Blazers could look at other options."

Mentions us as one of a few teams execs believe are interested in Ayton. Also says the Suns don’t want go pay him $30 mil and he’s not a favorite of Monty Williams. Also says the Suns would prefer a S&T if Ayton leaves, and mentions Grant as someone that fits their window.

Mentions Portland is interested in him, 3 team deal, who says no?

Suns gets : Grant and Olynyk
    Portland get : Ayton
Pistons get : 7th pick (and maybe a guy like Bledsoe if needed to make salaries work)

Suns get some value for a guy they don't want to pay and is a rfa who push comes to shove may let walk anyway. Portland gets a guy whose timeline fits better with their team and is kind of splash i think they want to make. We add 7th pick which is probably best we get for Grant and another young guy for the young core

I think I'm starting to join I don't think I'd want Ayton for max money group. Although I certainly wouldn't be mad if we did. Could always draft a guy like Duren and sign a Miles Bridges or Brunson instead with the cap space

Should be a fun offseason, Pistons have a couple ways they can go and I'm not sure any are more right than the other. But if they somehow pull off 5 and 7 and a good FA this offseason (Ayton, Bridges, Brunson, etc) then it's an absolute home run

Edwards has an article pushing Bogdanovic and 16 for Grant. I guess it would give us a good fit next to Cade but I dunno.

When I saw he was available I thought it made a lot more sense than Grant. He's four years younger and on a decent contract for 3 more years.

That Atlanta trade may not be the worst thing, not sure there will much better out there. Bogdanovic could be that veteran bridge while the team learns to win and maybe draft a guy like Blake Wesley or Jalen Williams to eventually fill that off guard spot.
