That last tweet confuses me. Why would it matter if we trade Snell or Dedmon if they are both basically expiring deals?
Only things he can really do at this point are... - trade Blake (I'm guessing he'd have to wait until December when people see him in exhibition games before that can happen) - trade Rose (seems like they think they can get more at the deadline than now) - trade Sekou or Svi (unlikely on both just because it wouldn't make sense) Everything else is already gone. I could see us trying to extend Svi on the cheap now before the start of the season.
Yes. And as of now, these are the players who are guaranteed money beyond this season: Blake Sekou (not official yet but will be) Hayes Stewart Bey Dedmon ($1M buyout)
Back to Ariza. Is it possible we fully guaranteed his deal to add him in a trade elsewhere to balance salary? I am guessing not but the NBA weirds me out when it comes to money. I
No, because we're a cap space team and wouldn't have needed his money to make a deal work. For example, he makes $12M or whatever it is he makes. A team like the Bucks would need that money + another guy making around $12M to acquire a $24M player because they're over the cap. Without Ariza's salary, we'd be $20M under the cap, so we could acquire a $24M player by trading any salary (or combination of them) greater than $4M.
His tweets after this make it seem like he thought Boston had more space than it does to maybe sign him straight up. Doesn't seem as though something is actually there at this point.
He played like 30 minutes without a single stat a few years ago. But he is a good shooter. Seems like a good teammate.
So Edwards probably has legit intel on Dedmon moving. If it’s true, it’s weird it hasn’t happened yet? Could it be tied to FA?
Honestly not worried about the 4 2nds if they value Bey that much. It’s kind of fun to watch Weaver play this like trade finder in 2K.
Pistons opening night last season consisted of this roster (Blake was injured and Sekou was either injured or in G League). Roster copied and pasted from the box score. STARTERS M. MorrisPF (bought out) T. SnellSF (traded) A. DrummondC (traded) R. JacksonPG (bought out) B. BrownG (traded) BENCH C. WoodPF (not re-signed) T. MakerC (didn't pick up option) D. RosePG (still on team) T. FrazierPG (waived) L. GallowaySG (ufa) L. KennardG (traded) S. MykhailiukSG (still on team) K. ThomasSG (traded) So we have 2/13 players back from our opening night roster one year to the next. Wonder if a team has ever had more turnover than that?
So we still haven’t announced the Ariza trade. I believe every other move we have made has been announced.
Interesting stuff from Hollinger in terms of the cap maneuvering we could do to keep Wood if that's what we want. My current order of preference for Wood is now 1) sign-and-trade for assets, 2) keep him for less than $15M a year, followed by 3) let him walk if it's more than that. It would suck if he walks for something in the $12M a year range, though.
No. If we didn't have McGruder's contract, we'd have the extra $5M in space already and wouldn't need to stretch his contract out. The more I look at that deal, the more confused I am by it all. Can't tell if LAC just doesn't really like Kennard that much, or if they sensed we were desperate to do something and played us for some extra assets (which aren't that big of a deal, but still kind of sucks to give up).
It's a meaningless Portland 2 in 23, and then I think our own picks in 24-26. 2nd round picks aren't that big of a deal for the most part because, if you really want one, they aren't that hard to acquire on draft night. They're more useful as currency in transactions the rest of the year, and it's a disadvantage when you don't have any to move.
Agree on the value of the 2s but it makes it more difficult to start a rebuild without that currency. Hopefully Gores is ok with buying some in the future
Agreed. I don't love giving up 4 assets + Kennard to get 19. At the same time, barring us making a significant move where we add long term salary in the next week or so (that feels unlikely to me at this point), we're staring at something in the range of $50M+ in cap space next year, and that's with Blake's deal on the books. If we move him, it might be closer to $90M in cap space. I think we'd be able to replenish that supply in pretty short order considering that space isn't going to be used for FAs. That's why the 2nd rounders we gave up for Kennard doesn't bother me that much.
Looks like Hayes is gonna wear the cursed #7. Fuck. edit: Stewart #28. This class has bust written all over it.
I think this is a foundational class. These guys will be serviceable. It’s not like we’re drafting Henry Ellenson anymore
The way nba contracts are now, if wood is signing for $15 mil or less i think its a no brainer. Still only 25 and thats a guy you can always move at the deadline. That is unless we get a great s+t offer
