Getting Vrana back would give us a pretty incredible top nine when you consider where it was just a year ago.
Are they going to ride the chiarot/seider pairing into the ground? Idk what's going on but seider looks like a shell of himself compared to last year
Gotta break them up. Maata and Seider, Chiarot and Hronek, Edvinsson and Lindstrom seems way more realistic.
D is a mess still, and yet it’s improved over last season. Ned has been brutal this season, as well. At some point we need to cal up Edvinsson and then shake up the pairings, but getting Bertuzzi and Fabbri back will help. Vrana I’m not counting on but his return would be best if all.
It’s early, but Berggren is producing. I expect Soderblom to be sent down to GR once he’s healthy, which should benefit him. Excited to see Fabbri return. We could use his energy and skill in the top nine, even if he’s not a great defensive player. Hopefully it’s soon.
Getting healthy will help, but the 5v5 issues are are still an issue. We were much better vs Anaheim, and the next few games are against lottery teams, so it’d be nice to see us consistently win at even strength before we get to the teeth of the schedule.
AHL rookie, 20 year old Cross Hanas up to 7+4=11 in 14 games so far this season. On pace for 57 points. Jonatan Berggren at a full year older had 64 points in his rookie AHL season but 5th season of pro hockey.
Berggren with 3 points (so far) in 4 games. Good thing we left him down in GR when he had already proven he was too good for that league.
Also, didn’t watch last night but that’s back to back games where Seider and Chiarot where at the top of our xGF, so that’s a nice development.
The 10:30 weekday games impossible for me to watch now with a kid whose up super early. Looks like Perron had a heck of a game
Cossa through 8 games in the ECHL: 4-3-1, 2.35 GAA, .916 Save % It’s nice to see, and even though it’s the ECHL plenty of goalies who have played there and then went on to the NHL have said the ECHL is the mentally the toughest league to play goal in. Namely because the travel sucks, the schedule is condensed and it’s an insanely offensive heavy league. Not saying all that to say Cossa will be a stud but he’s trending up so far this season after trending sideways last year.
This is what I’ve wanted to see over the last couple weeks. Nashville and Arizona on deck; we need to have similar efforts against those teams. If we get goalied, so be it. Just play this game.
I think we traded for him. Still good move though. 3 wins in a row, and play Phoenix on Friday, so should be 4 straight.
The next ten games won’t define the season, but they will tell us how good the team truly is right now. The underlying numbers still aren’t good, and with games against teams like TOR, VGK, TB, DAL, CAR and FLA, we could get exposed quite easily. Get 3-4 wins and it’s a success, imo.
He’s earned it with his play thus far. On the other end of the spectrum, I’m more resolute than ever before that Bert needs to go if he can’t agree to a reasonable deal (5x6 for example). Love him as a player, but we clearly have forwards that can replace him in the top six. And realistically, Copp can move to the wing and be just as effective as Bert (Copp’s offense isn’t as good but his defense is far superior) once Kasper is ready.
Another thing I’d love to see is for Yzerman to make a move for Bo Horvat. Horvat isn’t great, but he’s a solid #2 C. The issue is he will likely get overpaid because he’s heading into UFA, thus the conundrum. In my head, trading this year first, with top 5 protection, along with a guy like Buium or Johansson and then also a C level prospect might get the job done. Then sign Horvat to 8x7.5. You’ll have solidified your top nine C for at least the next five years with Larkin, Horvat and Kasper.
I am always excited for Wings/Leafs games, but this game is the first one in forever where the Wings are entering the game with shit to prove. With that said, my expectations are low for a win tonight. Regardless, it should be an awesome environment.
