There was a time I would have thought Svechnikov and Bobby f'n Ryan on the top line for the Wings meant things were going very well. They are not.
I am wondering if the talk about Mantha and Bertuzzi being on the block is a sign that Yzerman anticipates this thing going 3-4 more years before we are a solid playoff team. It wouldn’t shock me.
Yzerman also was developed and played a good chunk of his career under a coach who would use trade rumors to motivate players so who knows
Not an expert on the contract side of the sport, what is the benefit of putting these guys on waivers?
Zadina has been quite good the last half dozen games. It’s only a matter of time until his comically low shooting % improves just through regression to the mean. I think he’s going to flourish the rest of the season.
I think this all but assures that Yzerman will once again only tinker with the roster this offseason. The 2022 class is absolutely loaded, headlined by Shane Wright who is the best prospect since McDavid imo (it’s close with Matthews). In fact, I wouldn’t be stunned if this is the catalyst to move Mantha and Bert this Summer. Yes, we need talent, but if we do truly embrace the tank again next year, you’re adding 1-2 years to the rebuild, which means it could be 4-5 years before the team is ready to consistently contend. If that’s the case, Mantha and Bert would be out of their primes by then, so it might behoove Detroit to get something done now. Of course all that is predicated on getting good value back which isn’t a sure thing.
Larkin isn’t playing great and now he’a letting his frustration show. He’s going to get in a fight here soon, which is really dumb.
Players in SHL history with 29 or more assists at age 21 or younger Henrik Zetterberg Henrik Sedin Elias Pettersson Jonatan Berggren Edit to add as a 19 year old defenseman who has missed 11 of his teams games, Seider has 20 assists
Svech was sent it GR, which effectively ends his time here imo. He might get a call up after some trades, but it certainly feels like we have determine Brome is a better fit for some reason. I’m not sure what to say, other than this is an organizational decision. It just has to be.
We really need to dump some forwards. I want to see Svech , Hirose, Ras and Smith consistently getting PT
Looked at a mock draft today and wings should get a good look at a lot of top guys. Half of the top 12 mock picks either play within 45 minutes of Detroit or play with Raymond at Frolunda
Bernier just left the game, unable to put weight on his left leg. There’s time before the deadline, but if it’s serious that’s a blow.
The Wings are 5-4-1 over their last 10...wonder when the last time was they had such a good 10 game stretch.
Our recent run has seen us win games we have no business winning. I expect substantial regression once our shooting % regresses. Plus, if Bernier is out for an extended period of time, we are pretty well fucked. The positive news is that Larkin, Mantha, Fabbri and Zadina are all legitimately playing well. It doesn’t sound like Bert will return any time soon, but if he does make it back this season, I would put him on a line with Vlad and Zadina. I think that could work well. I wouldn’t break up Fabbri - Larkin - Mantha at this point.
Headed into the deadline, I anticipate the following to be moved: - Bernier (if healthy) - Glendening - Ryan - Staal I don’t expect we see more than four deals. Even four might be pushing it in this environment. I also think we’ll sign Petruzelli and give him a start or two at the end of the season.
LA had Tobias Bjonfot in the lineup last night. He’s a 2019 first round pick. A good LHD with upside. If we can get him and Kupari for Mantha, you gotta do it.
Where would he even play? Larrsson was good in college, and he sucked ass with the Griffins and with whatever league the Toledo Walleye are in.
The ECHL, and he didn’t suck ass there. He would go to the AHL over some guys with no future with Detroit. You either sign him or lose him to FA.
