Yes, third years in juniors too.., numbers are good but it's hard to know until you really see him against the best. He was probably injured this year, he did not play a lot
It might also turn out to be a draft like the mackinnon draft where everybody in the top 5 is basically equal with different skills. Tough to say.
Down 2-0 in the first to Buffalo. I know our defense sucks, but Mrazek has been a huge disappointment this season
“Anthony Mantha was a spare part in the (AHL) Calder Cup playoffs a year ago. Why does anyone think he is going to be the answer in Detroit?” Holland is awful. Get rid of this guy.
My head is about to explode, why is Sheahan getting time with Larkin? Why not bump him to the 4th line and have Jurco play with Larkin and Glenny? This is maddening...and Jensen playing top pair with DK while Sproul, who I think has been a real breath of fresh air, sits again? lineup decisions continue to baffle me...
So glad I'm not subjecting myself to this bullshit on a regular basis. Thank God I don't have cable and the only time I watch is via online stream.
We currently have the 4th worst record in the league, but we're only 5 points out of third place in the Atlantic. With that said, the schedule to end January is fucking miserable: @ CHI @ DAL PIT MON BOS @ BUF NYR @ BOS TOR NJ We need to win at least six of those games to stay in the hunt come February but it doesn't seem likely. On the plus side, Mantha is still playing awesome, and AA looks great with Vanek & Nielsen. Speaking of Vanek, he has been a revelation. I hope he keeps this up, because he could possibly get us a first come the deadline with the way this market looks.
I hope we wise-up and move Green at the deadline as well, we could get a first or something like a second and a prospect...
And he is 31st, not 18. I think the play here is to try to trade him, I agree with that part. But i do not see a team stupid enough to take on that contract AND give up a second round pick. Forget a prospect and don't even think about a first rounder...
That's fair - we'll never know with the way Kenny does things My point - he could be a valuable piece for a team that wants a Top 4, offensive minded defenseman, or, a deeper defensive team who would use him on the PP and as a really good 3rd pair D-man. I read something about CBJ being a good fit, and I think that Kekäläinen is on a hot enough seat that he'd overpay to strengthen their D-core.
Looks like Svechnikov is turning it on in GR. He scored twice last night to give him 10 goals and 17 points on the season. Mantha scored 15 in 65 games his first year in GR so Svech will likely outdo that.
Also the beat writers are finally giving up on the season which means Kenny is giving up on the season. Never before have a local group of writers collectively mouth pieced for a GM like ours do, but at least we get a read on the team that way. My hunch is that we need to finish January with 6 out of 8 for Ken to even possibly change his mind but it won't happen.
Also if Jensen plays tonight he officially has to clear waivers to be sent down. As some other guys come back to health Holland is going to have to finally address the careless roster composition he created. There is no way AA and Mantha go down at this point, so my guess is Ott and Jurco get waived.
It's sad, but we need to infuse some young talent on this team, so a year or two of top 5-10 picks would do us wonders.
I am really starting to fall for Nico Hischier. Liljergern would be really nice too but putting Hischier as our 1C going forward would be fun.
If we could get into the top 3 and get one of Patrick, Liljegren, or Hischier that would be huge. I think D is the bigger issue at this point. Hell, lets draft top 3 back to back and we can have Liljegren and Dahlin
